So sad I missed it. Is it by any chance recorded or reviewable? It was being recorded and someone indicated near the beginning that it would be posted. I don't doubt that the link(s) will be added to this thread when that happens. Imagine how it is for us. Jill is a hard act to follow. Your presentation was, for me, more rewarding as I now know that SERENDIP VI outperforms what was initially indicated by, oh, about twelve times! Worth the investment I'd say. ;^) |

Good to hear "Ol' 'puters" in full flow. Good talk Eric, look forward to reading it as I missed a bit Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

The link that Alex Storey posted early on still works for me, but I have no idea how long they keep the sessions online. https://astrobiology.nasa.gov/seminars/featured-seminar-channels/conferences-and-workshops/2014/3/16/search-for-life-beyond-the-solar-system-conference/ The specific talks that Eric listed are right at the bottom, in the afternoon session of Day 5. |

To my dismay, I was notified of the ongoing conference by a notice in the BOINC manager by the time it was almost over. I'm trying to get in, but somehow the only thing that's working in that tab is the script that operates my webcam. I can't see anything apart from the "Thank you for joining us!" message. |

The conference finished about 24 hours ago, so there is no video feed. If you want to see & hear what was said follow the link Richard gave in post 1493601 - the links are still working. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

I think the actual conference is no longer 'ongoing', but finished almost 24 hours ago. However, the recordings are still available via the link I posted a little while ago. |

However, the recordings are still available via the link I posted a little while ago. Oh, well. The fact that the program only alerted me of the webcast minutes ago gave me the impression that it's happening now. Completely missed the date! Thanks for pointing that out. I'm watching the recordings right now. |

The Astropulse data that Eric described in his talk are very interesting. Several hundred short burst signals have been detected, all within the galactic plane, and several of which were seen on more than one occasion (although not repeated in a one-off dedicated search). At the very least, these could be new astronomical objects, and at best they might be SETI communications. Could a grant be written to get funding to study these objects in greater detail? - with some of the funds being used for hardware, or a programmer, that could benefit SETI? This was the first time I'd seen these data presented and it would be great to hear a little more about this from Eric sometime - perhaps a short summary post in one of these threads? |

I would hope that the whole conference will be made permanently available for reference and links put up so that they are easily found on Seti at Home. |

Thanks for posting the link. Given the short time I had, I think I did OK. There was just too much to cover. If you haven't watched Jeff Kuhn's talk about Colossus and looking for waste heat on planets, it's interesting. For some reason it was in Session 4 rather than Session 5 (the SETI session). Jill Tarter's and Shauna Sallmen's and Ian Morrison's talks are interesting as well. Regarding answering questions you've posted, I intend to get back into blogging about SETI, but it will have to wait until after the ICON EUV PDR. I'll be pretty swamped before then. @SETIEric@qoto.org (Mastodon) |
