The man was doing 36mph past a primary school in a 30mph limit. He got off on a technicality. I hope the Parents association challenge the court ruling.

With errors like that, & you being an ex-engineer, work out the correct speed! In this country where speeding is concerned, there is a 10% tolerance, so that "missing 3" " could easily have taken him into that tolerance, ergo, no ticket!

Think before you speak.

Putting his driving into an all too common category. "Legal, but stupid."

Not really. Until all vehicles speedometers go digital & they take away that 10% tolerance, there's no way a fluttering pointer can be shown to be 100% exact.

Tell me, what is the difference between my comment of 10% tolerance & the fact you stated?

"display the road speed to an accuracy of +/- 10%"

Is that a 10% tolerance? Yes or No?

What many continually fail to realise about driving Heavy Goods Vehicles. It is no longer a matter of making sure the vehicle is roadworthy, taxed, insuranced, copy of operators license in vehicle, digital tachograph calibrated & working as well as used correctly, one has to be constantly vigilant, not just of other road users but fools desperate to gain entry to the biggest free ATM in Europe...

Migrant dies under truck wheels

...& to make this story even more terrible is the lack of compassion...

"A member of the public pulled the man to the edge of the carriageway but then drove off."

Edit: A reason why I hate the month of December & it seems to get worse every year...

Let's not read anything into this. You have no clue, that alcohol was involved. Could have been someone on the Lamb for all we know.

Sorry Uli, Chris is more than likely 100% correct. Take another look at the report...

...Just after midnight, New Forest, 3 girls & one guy. It is highly likely that somewhere along the line, alcohol is involved & not necessarily on the driver's side.

I've been there myself, totally sober, but having 3 fairly tipsy giggling girls in the vehicle is, believe me, highly distracting to say the least.

I didn't see your edit. My post refered to the Sudanese victim.

It just goes to show that cars were never meant to hit trees with their underside. :-O

I wonder if alcohol and/or speed was involve here.

Hum. Not seeing where a door has been ripped off, or the roof pealed back to get at the driver. Was this guy so lucky he crawled out the back?

We had the wrong type of snow, now we have the wrong type of frost ....

trams

Oh, and we also have the wrong type of computer glitches as well ....

Nats

Well it's only public money so no real probem ..... There is a word in the Oxford English dictionary that seems to have been forgotten about.

incompetence
ɪnˈkɒmpɪt(ə)ns/
noun
noun: incompetence; plural noun: incompetences

inability to do something successfully; ineptitude.
"allegations of professional incompetence"

synonyms: ineptitude, ineptness, inability, lack of ability, incapability, incapacity, lack of skill, lack of proficiency, amateurishness, inexpertness, clumsiness, ineffectiveness, inadequacy, deficiency, inefficiency, ineffectuality, ineffectualness, insufficiency;

Yep, that terrible frost meant no trams for me to get home Saturday morning :(

USA Regs

Hmmmmmmm

It does seem stupid to trash a car because it has no airbags and that the same car but older is allowed to live so to speak.
But It serves two purposes. One eventaully all car being driven will have airbags except the antiques that are restored. And it sends a message to stop criminal activity on smuggling unsafe cars into the US.
Will the later deter smuggling? Depends how many cars they crush to make the cost of shipping vs the profit motive.

It seems that loutish behaviour is not restricted to the UK...

Lucky to be alive

...Just what is in the minds of some people?

"Bystanders caused havoc for emergency services at the scene.
While police investigated the scene, a group of people threw rocks at them and the 33-year-old train driver.
Ambulance paramedics were also blocked, pushed and verbally abused by the group during their initial attempts to treat the teen."

If the car was stolen in the UK, shouldn't it be returned there and to its owner?

I dont think they are stolen. Just a way to sell a car that is not allowed to be sold in the US.

The article mentioned them being stolen several times.
