Gravity is the mechanism of landslides, but not necessarily the cause.

I can't find the word for it but the earth constantly tills its soil and purifies it in the fiery furnace before returning it to the surface. No matter what wo/man does the Rocky Mountains will wash into the sea.

18,000 years ago when my house was under a mile and half of ice; I could never shovel out the driveway. I was just looking at where the glaciers were during the last 200,000 years. I find it interesting that north New Jersey was covered by ice wile most of Alaska and the Rockies weren't. The ice covered where the "polar vortex" was this year.

To cut the air pollution in the large cities China is moving its carbon pollution into the countryside.

That is very big "OUCH!" for the environment and for the politics of the business of polluting...

The pollution in the cities is crassly being moved out and worse than just 'moved', magnified to be yet even more dirty polluting!

And for a further whammy for all: The business cost for doing that is such that the 'business' will want to keep that system burning and polluting for decades to come...

Who is it that keeps on claiming that "nuking" is the only way to be sure?... :-(

This is a good reminder that xenophobia and pollution are completely not constrained by islands of land or politics, let alone your own back yard:

Why climate change can never be ‘someone else’s problem’

... Climate change is global, and no amount of isolationism is going to protect us. This is the first time humanity has faced a problem we can’t avoid by taking sides. We need to work together, to understand not what divides us, but what we share, what we have in common that we need to protect, and what forces for self-interest are trying to convince us that a clear and present danger really isn’t any such thing. They do this by foisting dud petitions on us, they do it by constantly attacking the probity and skill of climate scientists, and they do it by pretending that bad weather is only happening in their back yards, instead of everybody’s.

We have a lot in common, right across this joined up world. And when it comes to climate change, what we share is a threat to every man, woman, child and dollar on the planet. It’s about time we stopped trying to find the differences between us, and started to value the things we all share...

If the East Antarctica ice sheet melts, which has long thought to be stable, then coasts could be in trouble.

East Antarctica melt could cause a global coastal destruction

Parts of the vast ice sheet of East Antarctica – which collectively holds enough water to raise global sea levels by 53 metres – could begin an irreversible slide into the sea this century, causing an unstoppable process of global coastal destruction, scientists have warned.

East Antarctica is widely considered to be more stable than the West Antarctic ice sheet but a study suggests that a large region of the eastern ice sheet is in danger of becoming irreversibly unstable once a relatively thin section of retaining ice on its coast is lost, the researchers said.

Here is what looks like a howler... Political procrastination, corruption, or outright denial?

Climate change is clear and present danger, says landmark US report

Climate change has moved from distant threat to present-day danger and no American will be left unscathed...

... The assessments are the American equivalent of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports. This year's report for the first time looks at what America has done to fight climate change or protect people from its consequences in the future.

Under an act of Congress the reports were supposed to be produced every four years, but no report was produced during George W Bush's presidency.

The story continues and at least this message is too clear to deny:

Sentinel satellite spies ice cap speed-up

One of the largest ice caps on Earth has experienced a dramatic speed-up, according to new satellite pictures. Austfonna on Norway's Svalbard archipelago covers just over 8,000 sq km and has been relatively stable from the effects of melting for many years...

... we've now looked at it again with the new Sentienl-1a spacecraft, and it's clear it has speeded up quite considerably in the last two or three years. It is now flowing at least 10 times faster than previously measured...

... "Although ice caps and glaciers contain less than 1% of the world's ice, they contribute around 50% of the sea-level rise due to ice melting,"...

As well as costing our earth with pollution, there is the directly dirty deadly aspect also as an additional hidden cost:

Turkey's mining safety: Bleak track record

... Some 13,000 miners suffered accidents at work in 2013, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute...

... Gas explosions, pit collapses and carbon-monoxide poisonings are the main causes of fatalities...

... Mining makes up 1.2% of the Turkish economy. The industry is worth almost $2.5bn and it provides employment for 92,000 people.

Zonguldak, a northern province close to the Black Sea, is the most famous mining region of Turkey and has vast coal reserves. But it was also the site of Turkey's biggest mining disaster prior to Soma. An explosion at the mine in Zonguldak in 1992 killed 263 people.

After this, many mining families moved from Zonguldak to Soma in search of a better life...

And the reality of political denial:

IPCC reports 'diluted' under 'political pressure' to protect fossil fuel interests

Saudi-led coalition sought to make policy summaries as vague as possible to minimise climate action...

... Wasdell thus told me:

"The summary for policymakers is a document of appeasement, not fit for purpose. In reality, if my calculations are correct, we not only don't have much of a carbon budget left, we have already overshot that budget – we're in overdraft."

Wasdell's claims about the politicisation of the IPCC's summary reports for policymakers are corroborated by other scientists....

... The IPCC's assessments of the potential costs of climate change "is probably an underestimate," argued Zenghelis, "because it omits consideration of many of the impacts of climate change, including potentially catastrophic risks."...

... other countries leading the drive to dilute the document included China, Brazil and the United States.

And the reality of political denial:
Why do you post a link to a clueless unpublished blogger who spouts opinions lacking in references? This is common in political forums but it just shows your mind is made up and you only read what agrees with how you feel.

I used to dig and find the truth but I found that is just like casting pearls before swine.

I will quote the blogger, these are called weasel statements, just words with no references.
Increasing evidence is emerging
Several experts familiar with

Just for you I did some research. The only "authority" quoted in the blog is David Wasdell. This is his background; Co-opted member of research group of Archbishop's Council on Evangelism. Evangelism can I get an Amen?

And where are your quotes/references to the contrary?

Are you claiming that somehow the Fossil Fuels industry "lobbying" or "political corruption" isn't happening? Or that global pollution somehow isn't happening?...

I used to dig and find the truth but I found that is just like casting pearls before swine.

There is an unfortunate problem that people are too busy to care or just simply don't care. Until that is until nearly too late.

There are the first public demonstrations and campaigns in China against the pollution there despite the police state banning such demonstrations. Some industrial development has been halted or delayed... People can care if they become aware...

Or just good journalism to keep the lawyers quiet?...

Sometimes, that is needed. You should go and see him talk. He is certainly impassioned, but certainly no evangelist. He came into this subject out of astonishment that politics can be so damagingly blind...

See for yourself from what he embarked upon many years ago now:

Planet Earth - We Have A Problem

That is from 2007/2008.

Note that we are now yet more years along the story, and the story remains the same. Also note that the IPCC is a few years BEHIND the reality...

Are we already cooked?

Not yet but we are making for an ever more uncomfortably expensive future for the sake of burning today.

Amen?...

Or are you hoping for some miracle from Science to save us from the very few greedy polluting corrupt polluting us all to Hell?

Amen to that brother. Keep these posts coming. I believe, I truly believe because the evangelist told me so.

I can now see this group is no different then the rest of the web. It is just cloaked in science but it is just the same old B.S. deserving of no respect.

The definition Cook used to get his consensus was weak, the climatologists said. Only 41 out of the 11,944 published climate studies examined by Cook explicitly stated that mankind caused most of the warming since 1950 — meaning the actual consensus is 0.3 percent.
