So, if Intel were to support Core CPU/iGPU's on linux, somebody would eventually figure out that they can save thousands of dollars, and get more performance for their 1000-node supercomputer if they built it on Core. So, don't expect to see a linux Core OpenCL driver any time soon...unfortunately Intel will protect their interests on this one.

That seems a silly strategy, because everyone who cares knows about GPUs. Everyone I know that worries about high bandwidth floating point performance is putting at least one GPU per CPU in their linux cluster/supercomputer. Right now they are typically going to NVIDIA because long term (>12 month) support for a GPU architecture isn't typically available elsewhere. Intel stands to miss out on that.

If you have a compatible machine, it will be downloaded automatically by BOINC as soon as it requests work for your GPU.

An i5 750, is a first generation Core i5, which does not have an OpenCL capable HD Graphics or Iris Graphics GPU onboard.

Thanks for the link Raistmer, I found the information I needed to activate my intel HD 4000 GPU there.

I read a lot of scattered information about dummy plugs and extending desktops from various projects but this thread is straight forward.

You don't download the SETI executables. They are automatically downloaded to your machine by BOINC if your machine can use them.

i saw forum and announcements are relating to the progress of Seti, members, volunteers and technical etc... but still I'm acquiring any results with the data analysis that is being in progress in million of systems since years. Is there any result or out feed by seti with all these doings?. let us know what seti had achievements till date.

I have tried this new version over the last week, seems to have a few problems

1. On BOINC STATS my numbers have dropped dramatically even though the PC is doing more work with running some tasks on the INTEL GPU, down to a couple of hundred each day instead of usually around 5000 points per day on 7.0.64 which I have been running for several months

2. The 50/50 resources split I am using - for Rosetta and Seti - takes into account the GPU work, what I saw happen is the CPU ended up exclusively running the Rosetta tasks because the GPU was running more than the 50% so the Seti CPU tasks just sat in the list and were never run

1. There is a problem with the SETI servers since the 7th so updates have not been done (hopefully that will be fixed by the server outage/backup this week.

2. As Rosetta is CPU only those SETI tasks will wait until BOINC decides it is time to do them before they get to their deadlines (Rosetta runs shorter deadlines than SETI does).

Thanks for the explanations - I have had a play this afternoon and now have Seti and Rosetta running 50/50. 2 cores Seti and 2 cores Rosetta on i5-3570K also with 2 concurrent intel GPU so will leave it at this and see what happens over the rest of the week.

Intel HD4000 seems to have 16 shaders - equivalent to 16 cuda cores ????

How many shaders does each instance of GPU setiathome_v7 use ?

Just trying to see how many concurrent GPU tasks are possible

I can't answer your question, but I can suggest that part of the fun of running SETI@Home is finding the sweet-spot for your systems. Let it run for a few days with only task, then increase it to two tasks and let it run for a few days and see what the difference is, do the same at three tasks and so on. At some point you will find the overall throughput will drop quite suddenly, or you will find your system becomes unusably sluggish in responding to the mouse or keyboard.

Pardon me if this has already been answered or discussed. Recently I got the announcement that SETI@home now supports Intel GPUs that support OpenCL 1.2. Later that day my system automatically downloaded it's first opencl_nvidia_100 task and started running it. It even completed a couple of the tasks. However after a reboot I started (and continue) to get an error that says:

GPU missing, Waiting to run (0.0126 CPUs + CUDA GPU (missing))

Not a huge deal, but right now I've got a task sitting at about 25% just....well.....waiting to run.

Is there anything I can do? It seems weird that it worked, and then it just didn't work.

Try just exiting Boinc then restarting it, there are GPU recognition fixes for delaying Boinc starting over at the Boinc forum,

You could try Boinc 7.0.64 or 7.2.33 from your repository, 7.0.27 is rather old although the repositories are still calling it their stable release, and 7.2.7 was never a (Berkeley) recommended release.

The two completed GPU tasks were run on an NVIDIA GeForce GT 520, not Intel GPU. AFAIK, Intel's graphic drivers will not provide OpenCL using the HD 3000 graphics in your i7-2700K.

If the GT 520 is still in the system, BOINC isn't recognizing it. That's what the GPU missing message indicates, and the host details don't show any GPU. If you pulled the GPU in hopes of getting Intel GPU work, put it back in if you want to do those tasks. If it's still installed and working, you may need to refresh the NVIDIA drivers or something like that.

Ok, still having problems.

It would appear I can't run Seti GPU and Seti CPU tasks at the same time. If I suspend the GPU then the Seti CPU tasks fire up and run 50/50 with Rosetta (2 cores each at the same time i5-3570K)

If I then resume Seti GPU the SETI CPU tasks stop immediately and Rosetta runs on 4 cores.

Anybody got any ideas on how I can get:

2 Cores Seti CPU plus 2 Cores Rosetta CPU plus as many concurrent Seti GPU as I want to select, most likely 4 or 5
