Delidding any 115x after Sandy Bridge definitely helps. Apparently, there are a LOT of chips (AMD too) that have gap issues. My wife's now defunct 4770K (killed by ASRock's defective crap) had a huge gap. After it died, I practice delidded it before doing the 4790K. The gap was over a mm between the die and the IHS. If you are interested in seeing that system, scroll up in this thread to a bit less than a year ago. The fourth board (3rd RMA) on that Z87E-ITX remains untested by me to this day. I'm afraid to put anything on it. This is why I'm on the most reliable motherboard made today, and certainly paid for that. Delidded i7-4790K (CLU/CLU) at 4.7GHz @ 1.310Vcore 24/7, 32GB DDR3-2400, Corsair H100i v2, Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming G1 WIFI-BK, MSI Radeon RX 480 Gaming 4G, HX-650 PSU, Corsair 750D |

That's why I bought two used i7 3820 cpus, since delidding a cpu is not something I've done before, I might experiment soon enough, but not this second. Savoir-Faire is everywhere! The T1 Trust, T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, America's First HST |

3 Titans? Wow! Now you got some horsepower, now I hope yer ready for the Nuclear Reactor jokes. Still that looks fantastic Zalster, you ought to see some of My plans, 5 CPUs, 24 gpus, that will keep Me occupied.. I'm already to 3 cpus and 8 gpus, so I'm a good ways along.. Full power to the Titans!! Heck what psu do you have in that Time Machine? Savoir-Faire is everywhere! The T1 Trust, T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, America's First HST |

I have a EVGA 1200 Watt but it was powering 3 780s before so I knew it could easily handle these monsters. Heat was my biggest concern but they run 10 C cooler than the 780s so, not an issue, lol |

Heat was my biggest concern but they run 10 C cooler than the 780s so, not an issue, lol Impressive, My replacement PC has a 1500w psu buried inside, all 220mm of a Silverstone ST1500 psu. Wait until I get the other 2 GTX580 cards installed and a radiator for one of them, not as impressive as the Titans, but then the next PC after this has room for 4 GTX590 cards, but cause of space restraints, the psu has to be an Ultra X4 1000w psu, since that psu is 160mm long. I also need to get an Enermax 1050w psu cable fixed and buy a Silverstone ST1500 GS psu. In order of Completion: Galactica Pegasus Promentheus Asus Rampage IV Extreme Hercules ASRock X99 EXTREME3 LGA2011-v3(Not bought yet) Zeus Asus P55 Maximus III Formula(Not bought yet, but I do have a cpu for this though) Savoir-Faire is everywhere! Oh yea! I really enjoy building PCs. I just haven't the money to build the monster I would like. The last one I priced on Newegg was around $10,000. I think I set my sights a little high. |

Oh yea! I really enjoy building PCs. I just haven't the money to build the monster I would like. The last one I priced on Newegg was around $10,000. I think I set my sights a little high. Probably so, just equipping 5 PCs with 12 more video cards, 2 motherboards, 1 cpu, 3 cases, 2 psus(850w and 1000w) and a few misc parts will cost about that much. Of the video cards, 2 are to prove a point as well as crunch(GTX590's, I have 2 already), the other 10 are just Asus Strix GTX980 cards. But then I have lots of time on My hands these days, so this will barring any obstacles(car repairs, new shirts and/or jeans, new shoes, property taxes), take maybe 1.5-3.0 years to do. I'm not sure on 2 of the cases, as to which one I'll buy, at least after the next case that is, maybe a used Black NZXT 810 Switch, maybe, the next case will be an Azza GT1 for sure, since the 9000B and 9000W are both discontinued. I like PC hardware, but then I've been building My own PCs since 1992 and I've been using computers since 1980.. Savoir-Faire is everywhere! Something a little different. 3 980's really heat up my computer room, so I made a custom window fan that tries to pull heat directly from the rooms hotspot, the ceiling, and send it outside.. It works really well, but is a bit noisier than I'd like. Should have at least 2 4" supply ducts or at least 1 6" so your making good use of the fans, esp since they don't have a huge amount of power to overcome the resistance of the small duct... |

If it was me .... I would build the box up both sides of the window (your bottom box doesn't look bad, I'm sure you could do a good job.) Leave it open topped and pull the air from the sides. |

You know the problem with modifying your computer, is knowing when to stop...That being said, I continued the mod of the computer I posted earlier. New MoBo ASUS X99-E WS, DDR4 RipJaw 3000 8 x4 GB, an additional Titan X. Switched out the HDD for an SSD, Upgraded the PSU to 1300 Watt EVGA The case is still the same as is the fan on the window. Only posted the guts. Zalster |

Looks good Zalster, I am having some car problems, just some passenger door body moldings(in Atlantic Blue) and drivers side door/window rubber weatherstripping, plus I have to pay for a few of bills, thankfully taxes aren't on the menu now. Though June is a bit flexible beyond some car parts, but just a bit I think, right now it is too murky to tell really. 4 Titans?? Eek!! I'm shrinking.. Nice PC, seriously. Savoir-Faire is everywhere! Thanks Brent and Zoom. @Zoom. Yeah summer time brings all sort of new expenses. I'm looking forward to seeing your final products when you get done. Wishing you the best with those. Zalster |

Thanks Brent and Zoom. Well, I have a few ideas, like putting an SSD on an x1 pcie card, one per PC, remember I mentioned there will be 5... I need to get a new case to replace the HAF-X, since I don't see modding it as being more than a waste of time, I've got lots of time, I'm just not up to doing that work, since I'd need to buy a lot of stuff and a few modern tools that I lack. Just getting a few things repaired will be as much as I can have done on My current income, though there is something good on the horizon here in CA, it seems to have unanimous support, so far, though it's not guaranteed right now.. I've got an NZXT Switch 810 in Matte Black on the way, plus an EVGA P55 FTW motherboard these will go with the i5 750 cpu here, sure the EVGA and the i5 are old, but they are paid for and 3 pcie slots are nothing to sneeze at, especially when they are filled with 3 Asus GTX970 cards that will be cooled by three NZXT X41 cpu coolers. Then there will be My 1st X99 motherboard, an Asrock EXTREME3 LGA2011-v3 with an i7 5820K cpu, cooled by an aio 280 cooler(same for the P55 FTW cpu) and for video this PC will be like the P55 FTW, both will each use a Corsair AX860 Platinum psu. My next purchases will have to be 3 cases, an NZXT case, a Xigmatek case and an Azza GT1 case, then 2 GTX590 cards, all while paying down My existing bills that I owe on My cards and credit line. The NZXT and the Xigmatek are both full towers, if the Xigmatek is not something I can get cause of not being available anymore, that'll become another AZZA GT1, the NZXT is another Switch 810, and I'm hoping I can get a Black one, though White(yuck) is a possibility.. The car parts I do need to get first though, since I don't need any rust to start on My only car, which so far I'm unable to replace, since I don't have the income to do so currently. Recently I did buy some parts to cool the place, but so far they've not been installed, since the guy that will do this, works for the park and He can only do this on His own time and on My dime. The park has 13 old empty and I gather unsafe mobile homes that were not being taken care of by the previous park owner, that the current park owners inherited that will have to be demolished.
