LOL - And you are the one who calls us "crazy Brazilians", each time i see one of yours hosts i convince me i´m not the only crazy one in this world. If you could develop a beer cooling device to do that. Be sure a lot of users here will try to copy your dessign. :) Your stocks are at about 2.6GHz so 4.1GHz it´s realy an impresive OC. Thanks for sharing. <edit> For those who don´t know, We are friends so it´s a simple joke, nothing else to worry please. |

Hey Mark - isn't chilling your CPU down that far overkill? I mean, it takes a LOT of energy (= $$$) to do that, and are you really gaining that much? The CPU really doesn't do much compared to your GPUs anyway, so why bother? I'm not ragging on you, I'm just curious as to why you have gone that far, and what you are getting from it, since you could probably run another rig on the electricity that cooling system uses. |

Hey Mark - isn't chilling your CPU down that far overkill? ... Who cares?! It's just phenomenal that you can do that, and with what is now some rather vintage hardware! At the time that Mark built that box the only way to move your RAC up was to add more computers or overclock what you have. GPU's were a dream pie in the sky. In Marks case he decided to go for an extreme overclock to set the record for overclocking a computer. He spent many $$$ and invested a lot of time but was ultimately successful. And still to this day holds the record for overclocking on that vintage hardware. Today's computers can easily meet or exceed his overclock but with GPU's now on the scene it's easier to just add more GPU's to a system to increase ones RAC. Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

Hey Mark - isn't chilling your CPU down that far overkill? I mean, it takes a LOT of energy (= $$$) to do that, and are you really gaining that much? The CPU really doesn't do much compared to your GPUs anyway, so why bother? Overkill??? Shit, yes, it's overkill in this day and age. I built that box back in the Sempron days, when overkill cooling was the only way to achieve overclocks like I could do. Nobody could match me back then. Nobody else found some pre-college kid that was into subzero shit either. I have since lost contact with him.......... But it took literally MONTHS to find the correct Freon mix that worked for this rig. MONTHS of experimentation, a couple of blown compressors (compressors do NOT like chugging) and a lot of patience. If you do not know what a compressor 'chugging' is, you were not really into the chilling scene. I ran the crap outta more CPUs than you could even imagine. That's where my rep as a master OC'r came from, buddy. These days, my thingy is more relaxed, shall we say. I don't hold the schvanz up as high, there are others that can take that shield now. I had my day. Now I just take the high road with my numerous rigs that the kitties keep running top notch. The chiller does still keep that rig running at some 20 degrees or so below zero, however. ... with GPU's now on the scene it's easier to just add more GPU's to a system to increase ones RAC. Lots of MBs have > 4 PCIe x 16 (physical slots) - e.g., ASUS Rampage IV Extreme, EVGA SR-2 - and you can use them with flexible PCIe extender cables so the cards are able to all be fit in to a (would have to be homemade, I would guess) case. See this, for example: http://www.amazon.com/PCI-E-Express-Extender-Flexible-Extension/dp/B008BZBFTG |

Becareful before try that, there is a limit on how many GPU Boinc itself can handle, nothing related to the MB, if i´m not wrong is 8 but someone else could explain that better to us. I remember a thread on this forum talking exactly about that just don´t remember what. Need some digging. |

... with GPU's now on the scene it's easier to just add more GPU's to a system to increase ones RAC. I have 8 physical GPUs running on 4 cards (ASUS 2011 mother board GTX690s) no problem. I can't see any way to add more GPUs with only 40 PCIe lanes. |
