The Northern Lights made an appearance over much of the UK last night. Clear skies for most (before more rain arrived, made for a spectacular show!)

It's raining. Started about an hour ago. Nice steady patter, not a drizzle, not a torrential downpour. Just what we need, if it just keeps up for the rest of the day.....

And it pretty much did. "Official" gauge at the airport read 0.08 inch, but the level in my almost-empty pool rose at least 1/4 inch. Next storm comes in late tonight, revised forecast for the Fresno-Visalia area is 1.75 inch total. We'll take all we can get, just no hail, please, the fruit and nut trees are mostly still in bloom.....

The rain just reached my area as well, we are not expecting to get quite as much as you though.

Lynn - they were on my bucket list, until last night. To see them from my door as I took the garbage out was an unexpected way of satisfying that entry
(I now need to think of something to replace them on the list)

Message 1482978 - Posted: 28 Feb 2014, 23:55:12 UTC

9th coldest February and 3rd coldest meteorological winter in Chicago history.

A little snow tonight and a lot more tomorrow night. Likely not much for Lynn, but appreciable for me and a winter storm watch for the southern 3/4 of the state.

California was lashed Friday by heavy rains that the parched state so desperately needs, though with the soaking came familiar problems: traffic snarls, power outages and the threat of mudslides.

Just came back from a friends place south of Spruce Grove. Thermometer in my van was reading -32.5C out there and warmed up to a balmy -24C in the city - lets not forget the lovely wind chill. Don't know if I can make it till the thaw next week! I enjoy winter, but this one is grating on my nerves. Tired of dressing like a polar bear to do some work outside!

Still on my bucket list sadly. Not a peep of them down here in the SW. Missed them when I spent a week in Lapland last year too! Can't go much further North for holiday!

For those that missed the pictures, the thread is here, with updates since yesterday morning: http://www.westonweather.co.uk/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6

A quarter inch of snow moved through this morning. Several inches coming later, maybe 6 by tomorrow morning. Today's high was 26F and it will fall all day, although not horribly so. Winter Weather Advisory 3pm-9am around here, Winter Storm Warning farther south.
