But, having said that, in the run up to the 15th Anni this year, I honestly think that a "State of the Nation" report on where Seti is, and where it expects to be on the 20th anni would not go amiss. All those in favour say Aye! Aye Could the NTPCKR software be posted on github and developed by the community? |

Dear, i saw forum and announcements are relating to the progress of Seti, members, volunteers and technical etc... but still I'm acquiring any results with the data analysis that is being in progress in million of systems since years. Is there any result or out feed by seti with all these doings?. let us know what seti had achievements till date. |

I think everybody is doing their utterly best to keep this project rolling, with the limited fundings I think they're doing a great job. +10 |

And probabily we don´t be get any results in the next 10, 20 or even more years, the sky is so big, the task is unimaginable and we are so few. :) And the question still unaswered: are we intelligent enought and have the tecnology to even acknowledge the call? ![]() |

Somewhere near the beginning of this thread, a suggestion was made to start a funding drive to get a dedicated programmer to work on the Nitpicker. Most universities will provide matched funding for specific projects, so SETIzens might only have to come up with half the funding. This programming work could likely be done either by a good PhD student within 3 years, or by an excellent post-doc or specialist programmer on a 1 year contract. It would first be essential to have an update from the staff on the status of the Nitpicker and their ideas on how to get it running again, and whether a dedicated programmer is what's required, or if they have all of that in-hand. ![]() |

That's an excellent idea, and I'll certainly see if UC Berkeley has such a program when I pass this idea by the SAH team. Right now, though, I'm still awaiting for over a day a reply on whether we can do the matching fundraiser for the Green Bank SERENDIP receiver this weekend, and this is after over a year of waiting for the requirements, etc. I've never had to work this hard to give money away... hah. For all the well-known limitations of this project's budgets I would have thought it would be easier... Once the Green Bank SERENDIP receiver is in place and we are steady-state crunching data from it, then I'll write up the idea for NTPCKR. ![]() |

Well, for me it's a question of priorities: - If increasing the science database (more and more spikes, ...) is most important, use your money by developping more applications (e.g. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=73935). Use the rest of your money (approx. $0) ofr NTPCKR-Code. - If results are most important (SETI community would see what was found until now), first develop the NTPCKR-Code. If there's some money left, create new applications! Easy, isn't it? I'm lucky I don't have to decide. |

I have a question. Since it is obvious that Seti@home has not found ET yet, which is the result we are all hoping for, what would be the nature of any results some of us are asking for? I looked on the HOME page and found reference to data that has been collected and what parts of the sky have been scanned. I. for one, don't expect or need periodic reports stating that no signal has been found yet. I will continue donating my computer's cpu time as long as I am around and the project is operating. I have stopped crunching...and now slowly drift into the darkness of void like thousands of others on S@H. :( And I am not the first quitter on S@H, and most certainly I shall not be the last one... :( Wish results are made public...Hope we find them soon! :) |

It seems to me that a while back when my computer was unable to do any crunching (and I was unaware of the problem) for several weeks my access to post on the boards was suspended. Minimum posting RAC is 1. If you're ever in that situation message a friend and they can crunch a few units for you using your "weak account key" which will buy you a couple of weeks. ![]() |

I so want to hang on to S@H...reason being I still linger around. :) but it's hard...one way relationships hardly ever work out! :( |
