Can I limit BOINC's work buffer size by project?

Like many SETI users I prefer to keep my minimum work buffer size rather large due to the infrequency of astropulse generation. But some of the other projects I crunch have a 3-day deadline. Is there any way for me to set Boinc's work buffer size to 3 days or less for those projects and have a higher value for SETI? I have seti set for CPU only and the other projects are GPU only. Thanks! |

The only thing i can think of is giving other projects a bigger resource share. The work buffer is for all projects. So you can set seti to 100 and the other projects to 300 for example and see how it works. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

There is a way, if you run more than one instance of Boinc on the host, you could set the buffer for each project in separate but be aware, that is not an easy task to do and sure only for advanced users. |

The only thing i can think of is giving other projects a bigger resource share. Thanks for the input. At first glance I don't see how resource share will do any good since seti and the other projects don't compete for resources -- seti being cpu only and the others being gpu only. The problem is having 5 or more days worth of gpu stuff to do and having only 3 days to do it in. I'll give it resource share a try though. Can't hurt! Thanks. |

The only documentation i know about that was posted on Vypers Blog: http://vyper.kafit.se/wp/ Under the name: Running different Nvidia architectures optimal in same host with seti@home and other BOINC projects. His target is to use two different GPUs on the same host, but you could adapt it to do what you ask for. But be aware, is intended to use only by advanced users, and very few users could help you with that. |
