Message 1465405 - Posted: 17 Jan 2014, 15:40:01 UTC - in response to Message 1464790.

Today's main course menu was:
Roast beef & Yorkshire pudding
Shepherd's pie
Turkey & Leak pie
Chicken a-la-king
Faggots
Vegetarian lasagne
Jacket spuds with a range of fillings
A couple of different salads
All served with your choice of
Chips, boiled spuds, mashed spuds, roast spuds
and five veg

Average price of a main course £2.50

Looking around the table it was a case of guess the "meat portion" for the mountains of veg!

What are faggots in this context?

I had carrot soup at work today, really good and for just € 1. Gonna do that more often...

We had squash soup last week that was pretty good. I like the potato, chicken noodle, chicken and dumplings, cream of broccoli, and broccoli cheese. I wish they'd have split pea or French onion once in a while. I don't go for tomato, Italian wedding, minestrone, and a couple of others.

I had the mashed potato bowl: mashed potatoes, corn, gravy, 5 chicken nuggets, and a dinner roll. I added some bacon bits and cheese. And since it's the kids' meal, everyone is required to take 2 fresh fruit/veg sides, but all I took was a cup of orange juice. Raw carrots would have just gone in the trash.

Waw, you have quite a menu there at work!:)

Yeah, terrific.

Let me clarify: They do two soups per day for the students (at only one of five serving lines), and only offer one of those to the staff.

Also, the meatball sub had four balls, not three, and came with fries (curly today; yesterday's reuben came with a hash brown patty). Tomorrow, I'll probably have the corned beef & Swiss Panini with fries.

Contemplating lunch. Much rather have whatever I can get here than the choices available to me at work. Probably go with the meatball sub (3 meatballs on a hot dog bun with marinara) or the kids' mashed potato bowl (similar to the bowl at KFC, but not as good). Maybe they'll have good soup today.
