The number is so high because so many women feel the need to have abortions. Which is why it is better that is it safe and legal, rather than forcing women to seek illegal back ally abortions that killed thousands of women before it was made legal. Or better yet, give people control over their own sexuality by promoting the use of contraceptives. After all, if you don't get pregnant to begin with, you don't need an abortion afterwards either. That way you can make sure that once you do become pregnant, its at a moment you are ready for it. But what am I saying, this suggestion contains way to much common sense for the backward conservative parts of the United States. |

The subject of abortion and religion is a filled minefield. I believe that women should have the right to make a choice and live with the consequences. This is one area where I agree with ML1's view that education is the answer. Make sure that young men and women fully understand the possible consequences of having unprotected sex. If the church took a more enlightened stance regarding sex out of wedlock and promoted safe sex instead of threats of eternal damnation the abortion rate would diminish. Of course there are quite a few educated adult women who for one reason or another end up getting pregnant and for other reasons decide on abortion and I don't have a clue about reducing that number. But, as long as there are starving children around the world dying every day I think the money spent on anti-abortion campaigns would be better spent trying to keep children that are already here healthy. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

16,433 aborted babies Yes, its a very emotive story. I wonder why they weren't disposed of properly. The number is so high because so many women feel the need to have abortions. Which is why it is better that is it safe and legal, rather than forcing women to seek illegal back ally abortions that killed thousands of women before it was made legal. Its a sad choice for women to make, but it should be their choice and the fetuses should be disposed of properly and respectfully. Perhaps someone should put a grave marker to count all the women who died from illegal abortions? The numbers would be just as high if not higher. Reality Internet Personality |

Religion...no wonder we have too much conflict when we get idiots such as these... Can someone enlighten me what that picture is about? Tried looking up the date and i got the death of PC Keith Blakelock during a riot in Tottenham, Marita Koch of Germany setting the 400m woman's record, and the death of famous bandleader Nelson Riddle. Edit: Tried a reverse image search and got this, i understand now. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge.

This is a fantastic story by Julia Sweeny of how she became an atheist. I have mentioned it in links previously, but this is the full 2 hours on YouTube. This is entertaining, logical, thought provoking, and just good. If you have the two hours, it is definitely worth it. Letting Go of God Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! Gallop Poll Says: Three in Four in U.S. Still See the Bible as Word of God But 21%, near the 40-year high, consider it fables and history PRINCETON, NJ -- Twenty-eight percent of Americans believe the Bible is the actual word of God and that it should be taken literally. This is somewhat below the 38% to 40% seen in the late 1970s, and near the all-time low of 27% reached in 2001 and 2009. But about half of Americans continue to say the Bible is the inspired word of God, not to be taken literally -- meaning a combined 75% believe the Bible is in some way connected to God. About one in five Americans view the Bible in purely secular terms -- as ancient fables, legends, history, and precepts written by man -- which is up from 13% in 1976. http://www.gallup.com/poll/170834/three-four-bible-word-god.aspx?utm_source=alert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=syndication&utm_content=morelink&utm_term=Politics |

You have to follow the 'guidelines' of society, ... Believe me, dear Sir: there is not in the British empire a man who more cordially loves a union with Great Britain than I do. But, by the God that made me, I will cease to exist before I yield to a connection on such terms as the British Parliament propose; and in this, I think I speak the sentiments of America. Now isn't religion peaceful :-)It's all Bush the dumber and his coalition lackeys' fault for establishing the Islamic Republic of Iraq. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Sunday that the man was shot dead in his bed by fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq

Not being a "native" Sirius B likes to keep us on our toes!! Incorrect! Just pointing out the discrepancies within religious circles as this report shows..... Bakri on the run Leaving aside the info about Bakri..... "He is being sought by security forces in Tripoli as they crack down on those involved in the deadly clashes between the Sunni majority and minority Alawite community in the northern city, reports the BBC's Jim Muir in Beirut."
