Have you visited the Bible belt, religion down there in some of the towns and cities, is not a fringe activity, it is a way of life you must follow, or get out of town.

Of course people there are religious. But just because they are religious doesn't mean they go out of their way to ban abortion and contraception. Plenty of them are moderately religious, or at least respect that while they would never want an abortion, other people might think differently about that.

Even so, voter turnout rates on state legislators is generally pretty low but disproportionately high among extremist Christians, meaning they have a much greater say in what kind of person gets elected into the state legislative body. Point is, those extremists are just pretty well organized politically, while the people that oppose them are not. They don't vote so they get people that think its acceptable to jam ultrasound rods up a womans private parts before she can have an abortion.

You have no idea, don't go out of your way to meet the Tennessee Baptist Convention.

I'm just starting to write a new bible. One which states up front that all power and glory is contained within the Graphics Processor Unit. For without it, we would not have everything we have today.

Praise be to the GPU!

There's a religion that most people on seti could get behind.

young babies should be with their natural mother for the bonding process

I know My Mother, when I was a baby, toddler, child, pre-teen, and teen was In The Same House/Apt./Duplex, but, There Was No Bonding. I Felt Nothing towards Her. Near her Death and Afterwards I Hated/Hate Her.

Oh Yeah, same with Dad. Worthless Parents for Love and Support. And Food. I was Malnourished all my Young life. Not from being Poor, from Parents who liked Their Life more than their Kids.

Really, How often does Real Bonding Take Place. What A Joke.

May we All have a METAMORPHOSIS. REASON. GOoD JUDGEMENT and LOVE and ORDER!!!!!

I'm really sorry to hear this. Was your mother involved in drugs, alcohol or perhaps she had post natal depression?

Like I said, adoption should be a last resort, but in some cases it is genuinely best for the child.

Real bonding takes place a lot of the time but there are times when it doesn't happen. Often when the mother wasn't ready to be a mother or when there are other problems going on.

When real bonding does occur I can assure you that the love a mother has for her children transcends everything. There is nothing like that first realisation that there is someone in the world you you would die for without a second thought.

Again, I am really sorry to hear of your tragic past. I hope you found another adult in your life that taught you compassion and empathy. It doesn't always have to be the birth parents.

If that is your genuine background then I feel much sympathy for you. Perhaps you should post that in the PTSD thread.

There's a PTSD thread?

Yes there is a PTSD thread. Its in the Cafe. It is open to all. PTSD does not just affect combat veterans. It can happen to anyone, For a lot of reasons.

You are not required to post if you dont want to. Maybe just reading about what others have gone through and how they have coped or not coped can help you.

Lovely country the UK....

..it seems that if you're a Christian and answer a simple question politely, you get nicked!

You have to follow the 'guidelines' of society, if you diverge, you get a 'stamp' may it be due to religion or political standpoints etc...

But in the end, the police were embarrassed, had to publicly apologize and teh preacher took home a nice piece of change.
Blaming the whole UK for a few not too bright local cops? seriously?

It's what we do - it helps cover any holes in our information as to how widespread non-brightness is in our fellow citizens. :)

Incorrect! Just pointing out the discrepancies within religious circles as this report shows.....

Bakri on the run

Leaving aside the info about Bakri.....

"He is being sought by security forces in Tripoli as they crack down on those involved in the deadly clashes between the Sunni majority and minority Alawite community in the northern city, reports the BBC's Jim Muir in Beirut."

Now isn't religion peaceful :-)

It's all Bush the dumber and his coalition lackeys' fault for establishing the Islamic Republic of Iraq.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Sunday that the man was shot dead in his bed by fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq

You have to follow the 'guidelines' of society, ...

Believe me, dear Sir: there is not in the British empire a man who more cordially loves a union with Great Britain than I do. But, by the God that made me, I will cease to exist before I yield to a connection on such terms as the British Parliament propose; and in this, I think I speak the sentiments of America.

Gallop Poll Says:

Three in Four in U.S. Still See the Bible as Word of God
But 21%, near the 40-year high, consider it fables and history

PRINCETON, NJ -- Twenty-eight percent of Americans believe the Bible is the actual word of God and that it should be taken literally. This is somewhat below the 38% to 40% seen in the late 1970s, and near the all-time low of 27% reached in 2001 and 2009. But about half of Americans continue to say the Bible is the inspired word of God, not to be taken literally -- meaning a combined 75% believe the Bible is in some way connected to God. About one in five Americans view the Bible in purely secular terms -- as ancient fables, legends, history, and precepts written by man -- which is up from 13% in 1976.
