Some good news. I finally was able to receive a new PIN-code for my food shopping. For the rest of it, I just happened to be reading here. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=77729 You may perhaps be aware that a couple of CPU tasks having a long duration ran out in error here after quite a bit of processing time. Excluding those .vlar tasks which are not meant for the GPU, is it still possible to say whether or not running such long tasks by means of the GPU instead would benefit when it comes to possible results being obtained? Running given tasks by means of the GPU makes you able to run more tasks at a given time, because of the added speed being provided. Also the number of graphics cards or GPU's available on a given system should be a factor. Also by means of running a task using the GPU apparently makes it more likely that unwanted RFI is becoming a part of the result as well. Assumedly both a CPU task as well as a GPU task should validate against each other when it comes to possible spikes and the like, as well as their count, but in the end one result is supposed to become the canonical result and my own experience is that this result is likely to be from a task run by means of the CPU and not the GPU. You may be able to conclude that excessive heat is supposed to be making its toll on the GPU and not only the CPU. |

I should learn how to write. Even more of it as well. The word "ambiguity", which may be derived from "ambiguous" came up in my mind. Should not be confused with "ambitious". Using Google on the word "ambiguous nature", I came across an article at books.google.com about the subject which is copyrighted material. Just making a quick read and I am able to conclude that what we are trying to understand about the universe is not related to such a thing like "ambiguous nature". Definitely there are things we do not still understand, but nature in my opinion is not based on the principle of "ambiguity" as the word currently is being explained or translated. |

Taking time to watch the documentary now. The problem is that what could be regarded as a reason for carrying science by some people, will rather be viewed by other people as entertainment and pure fiction only. Definitely the U.S. military are having both F117 Nigthawk Stealth planes as well as B2 bombers being located in secret hangars. At least they are supposed to be protected and mostly well hidden from the general public, but mostly for security reasons. Are distorted voices and hidden facial profiles the only reason to possibly hide secret which are being related to our own technology? Definitely the military should not always be trusted when it comes to availability of information, but right now it may appear that all of this is not something that is happening in the brain ending up being just an illution. There are so many people around speaking about the World's biggest conspiracy. For now, the only way of perhaps proving one thing for another is being able to detect an intelligent signal coming from someone else. Nature on its own may be having its secrets at times and emission coming from radio galaxies being located millions of light years away may be detected using existing technology. So why not an intelligent coming from another civilization being present in space? At least we happen to know about planets orbiting other stars. |

Not available on the server anymore. Not too much to bother about. The following I wrote two days ago, but perhaps still quite fits into the rest of it. Going to bed here at 5 AM in the morning. Summer eventually arrived here today with sunny weather and air which became slightly warmer. Finishing the day with a piece of cake, but for now skipping the cup of coffee. For the sake of home cleaning, I went to the storage room above my flat and collected a quite big system box which was purchased before the three computers of brand Corsair, of which one is now being used. The first one had a manufacturing error in the topmost SATA connector towards the discs inside the box. A second computer being purchased unfortunately came with both errors in cabling as well as the same thing on the motherboard itself. This purchase was meant for the recovery of my Windows XP discs, but in the end ended up in quite a bit of disappointment. For now I have yet to find a replacement for these two systems, but apparently time flies and both Windows XP and a processor as well as a suitable motherboard is no more readily available. Also not forgetting the power supply, memory cards (RAM), as well as a graphics card. Testing out a couple of things, three processor fans which had come off were found to be working on their own. Two other fans had become broken. Also the same for a graphics card coming with the mentioned system box. Looking around for memory modules, I eventually was able to locate at least one lying in a box. Adding one more card, there were also other cards as well in that box. Either the memory modules ended up in the wrong socket, or the connector between the monitor and the graphics card is the wrong type, but it was the power supply coming with this box that earlier squeezed my thumb quite hard. Having the power supply located at the top of a system box definitely is a design failure. I was unable to get any display on the monitor, making room for still a couple of things to try out. I will continue tomorrow evening. For now it became the end of a quite busy day. That said, I checked my postage box downstairs earlier today and found a PIN-code for my VISA card. That is what I initially thought. Apparently this code only makes me able to check the amount of money being available by means of using the telephone, eventually the mobile phone, but this is not what I was asking for. Insted it became dinner at my parents home. While eating the food, it was of course reason to be complainining about certain things. Right now I am down to running four Seti@home CPU tasks at a time. I could run eight PrimeGrid CPU tasks as well, because that is not cloggering other things too much. The only exception are the genefer_131072 CUDA tasks, which now became genefer_262144 instead. Therefore, I am not in the mood for any fun. But this documentary I have only been listening to. I came across it a litte earlier on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPPSyqtFq28 Please give it a watch and make up your own mind. Possibly human beings are not warriors anymore, with a couple of exceptions, of course. Are those hangars now empty, or are there secret technologies being hidden to ordinary people? Are some of these technologies coming from other intelligent civilizations and possibly available to us as a result of a secret or clandestine exchange program? Remember the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". There were humans, including a small boy who once became captured by those aliens. Even so, other people were standing by, ready to go, supposedly volunteering to become both hostages as well as space and possibly time travelers. That is of course when you are supposed to believe in entertaiment and fiction and not science and reality. I will have my mother here tomorrow. Possibly the next weekend will make a couple of things more fun to be having a closer look at. |

Checking in with current tasks on the server, I am noticing a couple of red lines among my error tasks right now. "Timed out - no response" Trying to do my best on this project, I am not used to see such entries. Example here http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=1824432705 Checking with my SMV, this entry is not being listed there. Not in the task list of BOINC Manager either. These tasks probably became lost between me and the server and I most likely did not run those tasks. Keeping a tab on it. Not used to exactly this happening. |

I had to go one page down to get to my thread today. Yes, I know it is Saturday and therefore a weekend. But you should know that running BOINC Manager apparently is burning the processor in my computer quite a bit. I am experiencing quite a system hang at times and doing other work while the Manager is running is not making things any better. The Seti@home and PrimeGrid tasks are set to run at Low Priority by means of the Windows Task Manager. Definitely this processor is built for speed and specific software applications may be used in order to obtain better performance. But optimal performance, including the possibility of both speed and the way results might be obtained should not come at the cost of choking or burning the computer, possibly to death in the worst case. In recent days and weeks I there have been several instances where the computer has been turned off in a quick manner, only perhaps asking a question whether or not I want to save the Notepad file currently being edited, followed by an almost immediate shutdown of the machine. This is very likely a result of excessive heat on the processor, although I may not be given an advanced warning about this from the RealTek power monitoring application (part of AI Suite II). Definitely I happen to know that I am only supposed to be running BOINC Manager, including the Seti@home client on "authorized computers", in this case a computer which is meant for personal use. Still, I find it awkward that the applications are able to burn the processor when running the tasks. One advice received earlier was to put a limit on "Use multiprocessor systems, use a maximum of 50,00 % of the processors", meaning running on only 6 processors, rather than the usual 12 cores. Also the selection below, which is "Use at most 50,00 % (or 100,00) could be checked further as well. The problem is that both these fields are set to blank and there is not any further options or suggestions available in order to make any adjustments to these settings. If not to make any confusion, the processor as a whole is divided into 12 separate processors, which may be regarded as being 6 cores (6 * 2). Assuming that 6 cores means 12 processors, this should be the same as assuming 3 cores are supposed to mean the use of 6 processors. I do not know in which way this halfway division or split of the number of cores goes into the way tasks are being run by the processor. So, is there a way to possibly run tasks without straining things too much? I have heard the name "Processor Lasso" being used for an application. For now I do not know anything more about this software and therefore will need to check it out further. Again, there should be made a difference between high efficiency and performance which supposedly could be gained and what could be a better environment for the running of tasks based on optimal performance settings instead. An answer to this question would be appreciated. If so, I will not have to create a thread in Number Crunching about this particular problem. |

With respect to Chris S, who provided the information, a couple of thoughts related to other contents being found here. "leitungvvvuuustuetzpktxwwwhavenxxfffttteunszwozwovierhuermitvrrhhhvvvgeloest" http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=76928&postid=1653060 Which is actually what it is supposed to read, but in the end actually becomes only nonsense when it comes to both reading as well as interpreting when it comes to contents. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enigma_machine More about this being found here. Everyone is capable of making a typographic error when writing, but nevertheless. From my studies at the local School of Engineering in my city, I happen to remember a couple of printouts for models being related to databases. What a waste of paper. A lot of this stuff being used for nothing in return. Are numbers alone supposed to be able to reveal any secrets? Are military secrets always supposed to be exciting stuff when you are supposed to be doing other things instead? I happen to know a couple of things related to this. One such thing is that secrecy may exist and be kept in at least two different ways. The first way of dealing with such matters are secrecy on its own. Either given contents may be unrestricted material giving access for anyone to read. Following that it becomes Confidential, next Secret and ending up with Top Secret, or possibly even higher as well. The second way of dealing with such matters may be subject to an even more subtle or stickier approach, namely that of privacy and confidentiality, which implies sensitivity of certain matters. There may be Confidential material around being related to sensitivity, including possible personal matters and relationships which even a usual Confidential clearance may not always provide access. This might also go for matters which are related to the use of cryptography, including handling of codes meant for transfer of sensitive information. I already asked the same question, but getting back to it next. Are numbers alone able to keep secrets from becoming public knowledge? Are perhaps more than just numbers, or even the garbled words being referred to above enough to keep stalkers away from contents which are not meant for you and me to see? Right now I believe noone has yet come up with a final answer regarding this question. Edit: Had a shutdown once again while editing. A message from Notepad about saving the current contents followed by an immediate shut-down of the computer. Losing a couple of things when this occurs, especially when it happens out of the blue. Possibly something related to the cabling and not necessarily dust or even static electricity is the reason for this happening. Maybe it is not only about Watts and Volts and even Ampere, but maybe about resistance, or Ohms instead. Perhaps Mark Sattler or someone else might offer any advice here? Any suggestions to this much appreciated. |

The jar containing blueberry did not open. Put in under hot water in the kitchen for about 60 seconds. Still I had to exert quite a force before the hatch came off. Right now choosing to stop running my tasks for a moment. Working on this, so my language may not always be to the point. The bad thing is that I am clicking on the icon for Boinc Manager, rather than the icon for Windows Task Manager. I need to switch their relative position when working on this. I am having a look at some old Seti@home logs right now and among the four I was able to locate, there was an old friend of me in the first one. I should not mention it here, but you probably know about it. Still wondering who they were. These numbers probably are reasonably correct, but right now we are not experiencing a repeat of the same. Reason to believe, perhaps? Not everyone is doing such a thing. @Chris S: Thanks for your reply. She will be 78 years old in October, but the treatment she was able to receive will probably make her last quite a bit longer. This was not possible only a few years back and even now it comes with the price of a lot of blood samples and possible other complications that may arise as a result of such treatment. Definitely so, Chris. In the end it happens with all of us and it is part of our life. But the fact is that average age is now rising to new levels because of better housing standards and medical treatment options being available. Because of this, I happen to remeber the grandmother of my uncle. Probably at the age of about 40 or more, she was still there when having birthday celebrations for his family. This is not something that happens to often. Returning back to my logs now. I do not want to halt processing for too long. |

Anyway, my mother just came in here with a dinner for me. In fact salmon this time. Only two moderate pieces, but also two potatoes. Most interesting perhaps is something like Strawberry soup (believe it or not) coming in a separate package. Looks quite tasty when looking at it. I will have it for dinner tomorrow and leave it in the fridge overnight. |

Weekend ramblings again. Getting back to it in the next posting instead. Anyway, some good news for you right now. On another Samsung 2 TB disc in my possession, I have at least two partitions installed. The first one became quite big when it comes to contents. The second one is somewhat smaller in size. Both these partitions are copies of earlier contents, but with a couple of things added both when it comes to contents as well as file structure by means of directories. For some reason the first one of these two partitions chose to say farewell a while ago and its contents became unavailable, giving room for much disappointment. Most of the contents being found there are downloaded or purchased applications. Also several quite big Seti@home logs distributed across several directories. Therefore losing this partition became a quite noticeable setback. Using my current 3 TB disc which is having one running partition, I chose to make a second partition for this purpose. The tool being used was not able to precisely divide the remaining disc size. Or rather perhaps say determining the remaining size for proper partitioning based on size. Because of this, the second partition became slightly larger than needed. Still, when doing such a thing you may be better off by having some additional space available. But noticing the fact that when choosing "Computer" from the Start-menu using Windows Ultimate, then "Administer" or the like but not "Properties", I get to those tools which once were a separate package under Windows XP, there apparently were some menu choices which in fact were showing the file structure of this partition. Doing this, I still had to make a couple of menu selection choices by means of clicking on several different options by means of menus and buttons by using the mouse in order to get back to where I was when noticing this fact. When doing this, it gave a message about several dozens of files having a file stamp more recent than those originally there. It became a little tedious, so I chose to skip these files, but not before walking quickly through each of the files being listed individually. The following process took place while I was doing the other regular things. The whole thing took several hours to complete, but did not affect overall performance otherwise. Finishing up it all, I discovered that everything had ended up in one specific directory having the same volume name as the original partition. A couple of configuration and data files ended up at this "root" level as well. Also the Recycler as well as the System Volume Information directories, which may be a hidden directory also became created at the same level. Since everything ended up in a subdirectory on this new partition, I will later have to install Windows Ultimate 64 bits from the CD-ROM and next move the copied contents to their final destination. Eventually I am quite pleased with the result and here are much contents to enjoy when the process eventually becomes completed in the future. The point to remember is that software applications only are working perfectly when being installed by means of a complete installation package. Also this is an example that a specialized software recovery software package might be needed at times in order to recover lost data, but before attempting such a thing, different ways of trying to do the same should be considered a first choice. |

Should perhaps tell. I became interrupted a little while ago. By some advertisements this time. But you should know this little thing. I had my flat trampled a while ago. I lamp for lighting apparently went to the floor. The holder for the lamp which was in metallic gold and heavy survived. Read heavy weight then. I am not looking it up now. The green glass, which was delightful, did not so. Oh, joy. |

Early up today and better post here instead. Right now we are well aware of intelligence being found here on earth, but still nowhere else. Life on its own is synonymous with the physical world. At least it is about the processes which are related to biology. Those of us who happen to be having a belief of sorts should be allowed such a thing as well. But assuming that life is about a physical presence, we also know that life is based on binary codes being found in each of our cells which are making up the body. Depending how much further you want to proceed, each cell is divided into chromosomes, genes, proteins, DNA and possibly RNA. Every cell in your body is an organic, or chemical factory with a given purpose or function in mind. A cell belonging to a muscle in your arm is not supposed to be able to think on its own. Rather its functionality has been pre-programmed by means of the chromosomes and genes which makes it up. A computer is doing its calculations by means of electrical circuits called transistors. Because transistors may be built to certain standards, or having a specific functionality, logical and possible deductive thinking may be possible by means of using a computer, particularly with the aided use of software. The human brain, which is probably the most important part of the body, is working in much the same way as the computer, has a much better memory recall and at times quite a large storage for both programs and data by means of hard disc drives which may be attached to it. Definitely we may be seeing quite a lot of similarities and without doubt the computer is an invention which is based on a knowledge about how things are supposed to be working the natural way. Both computers as well as humans may be exposed or prone to fallibles as well, including both ageing as well as wear and tear. Our ability of communicating as well as messaging is a possibility thanks to satellites in fixed or geostationary orbit around the earth. Such objects are the result of technological innovations created by humans and based on both creativity skills as well as innovation. Also human effort as well as economic costs through necessary investments should not be forgotten as well. That said, for now the only way to possibly conclude the existence of possible other intelligent civilizations being present in space is by means of detecting a radio signal coming our way from such a presence. We think ourselves as being about 0.84 on the Kardashev scale. When doing such a thing, we may perhaps be including everything from biology, technological development, including house building, car construction and finally perhaps the most important thing, namely communication, including speech as well. Also for those of us which has the need to carry out any vorshipping should of course be able and have the time of doing such a thing as well. Most or all of this is happening because it is supposed to be your way of life. The sun comes up, the sun goes down. You may be awake for perhaps 14-16 hours a day and asleep for 8-10 hours during the night most of the time. At times your productivity may be low, but there are also other periods where your productivity may be high. So for now, it may seem that intelligence, at least when it comes to both ourselves as well as our technology, is based on principles related to the physical and material. Be thankful for the work the cells in your stomach are doing for processing your dinner or cake. Most likely you finally go to bed in the end. What may be happening at that time perhaps noone will know for sure. At least you were able to have your dinner and cake before going to sleep. |

Going to bed at 05:45 AM in the morning and writing the following at free hand. We better should try to explain nature by the laws it is known to be both possessing as well as exhibiting. Better leave gods, spirits, apparitions and the like to your spiritual mind and assume that what is not technical and material in our world still is a part of nature that we are trying to understand. Religious belief and faith is only one part of the whole picture. The same goes for our mind and comprehension. Nature by means of the laws making up its inner workings is supposed to be making a separation between energy and mass by means of certain laws of physics which are being related to each one of them. Supposedly what is thought of as being matter rather is supposed to mean or imply energy, or vice versa, the only thing which is needed is a conversion factor. Right now we do think that we know this conversion factor: E = mc2 Energy consumption for the need of survival means that such energy needs to be harvested. Either this is possible by means of production of such energy, or the harness of such energy may at times be as a result of exhaustion of the resources which constitutes energy and its subsequent use or purpose. Technological civilizations are supposed to never be able to hide themselves completely, because they have to release the energy they are using for their own consumption and survival. Because of this we are assuming the Dyson sphere for this purpose. Better have a look at this tomorrow. Good night. |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligence https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kardashev_scale Compare the contents of these two web-links against each other by reading. A quick glance at contents seems to suggest that the contents of the second article implies more than the first one when it comes to contents only. Of course I could switch the order of direction here. It still goes for the same. Is it possible to make any direct comparison between these two articles when comparing their given contents only and not reflecting about other possible relationships that might be present? Any comments welcome. Edit: Reading about the Kardashev scale, the discussion is soon about the harnessing of energy as a resource, possibly even at the output level of a whole star. Most likely this an important factor to consider, but perhaps not an explanation for everything that nature may be having in its offerings. |

Actually I forgot bying potato chip this weekend which now has passed. But I was able to grab that mentioned cake instead. Quite good one as well. So, because of that, I am wondering about the following. Currently there are several types of tasks available for processing. Except for AstroPulse, there are short tasks, sometimes nicknamed "shorties", as well as those longer tasks which still are not carrying out the gaussian search. Also the .vlar tasks as well as the opposite, namely ".vhar" tasks, if you will, even though they are having no specific designation as such. Finally those tasks which are carrying out the gaussian search. So the question becomes as follows: VHAR is actually a shortcut for "Very High Angle Range". These tasks cover a large area of the sky, do not carry out the gaussian search, but still takes some time to complete. Whether or not an intelligent signal is present and being detected, is it possible to make any separation or difference between the scores being obtained when it comes to those .vlar tasks versus those "VHAR" tasks? This question posted here in the hope of a possible answer. |
