Ahem.... God DOES play with dice. He rolled them the day I was born and was not ready for the outcome. But that's what you get when you play with dice. So, into this world was born a man with free will and an open mind. So open that it frustrates the heck out of people with more limited vision than I happen to possess. This does come at a price. At times, my very sanity is questioned not only by others, but by myself. There is a very thin line between what most of you consider the bounds of reality and where I exist at times. So thin it becomes transparent and I cross it back and forth at will. Some times I talk to you from your side of that line, and sometimes I talk to you from MY side of that line. It can be interesting when I sometimes stop and sit exactly ON that line, and nobody knows WHAT to think. As I get older, I find that my life has become more chaotic trying to attempt to stay on one side or the other, and it seems that it is impossible for me to do so. The shift happens faster every day now, and is now beyond mine to control. That can be both frightening and enlightening at the same time. The swings become wider and further every day. I shall some day, report in from way on the other side of the line that you folks do not visit, and it may be an astounding vision I present at that time. Stay tuned.... Edit... Right now, I best be off to do that sleepy thingy that allows me to get up in the morning and take on the tasks that keep the lights on and the kitties fed. "Learn from yesterday. Live for today. Hope for tomorrow." Albert Einstein "With cats." kittyman

Here is an analogy. Scientists are seeking to explain natural phenomena by means of the physical properties or characteristics an object may be having or possessing. In order to give an explanation for the laws of physics, mathematics is of course being used for this purpose. Mathematics again is synonymous with exactness and precision. But then we are back to some still unanswered questions. We all remember the famous words of Albert Einstein that God does not play with dices. So, what about Werner von Heisenberg's uncertainty principle? Are some properties of nature sought to be explained with precise exactness when either the properties of an object can not be measured in precise detail because such a measurement is affecting the properties of an object itself. If the presence of a strong gravitational field is supposed to be bending time, are we still speaking about the exactness of mathematics being employed or used, or are we once more left to the science of specific objects to be speaking for themselves? In which way are you supposed to be able to precisely measure one thing against something else when mathematics is being used for such a purpose? Are you supposed to be able to receive a final answer to the question you are asking when what you are observing does not obey the given laws of mathematics or even physics as we happen to know them? Definitely not all aspects related to the laws of nature has yet been fully explained and understood. |

Thanks, Julie. Perhaps I should stick to this thread only in order to avoid confusion. Should tell you that the short break apparently helped. http://factordb.com/index.php?id=1100000000757816421 This PRP1108 was an easy one to factorize, but still it was unknown until only a short while ago. |

Just a short one, because it is late here. If we want to broadcast our presence into space in hope to receive an answer, we may be doing this in order to be able to know whether or not intelligence based on biological principles are just a coincidence, or more as a result of the way nature is supposed to be working and functioning. The way nature is supposed to be working is because it is governed by some general laws of physics which are mostly explained by means of mathematical equations. There are some people who do not think there are any specific rules that are defining or explaining the complexity of nature, only that it is working as it is. Chaos and randomness is one way of explaining nature. Perfect symmetry and order is another way of doing the same. Both principles can be readily explained by means of mathematics, because this subject is all about exactness and therefore able to explain in precise detail most questions that are being asked. |

So, continuing on this, the question becomes whether or not great scientific achivements always are based on great accomplishments, or at times such achivements may even be as a result of small tasks being carried out and their individual results coming from these ones as well. There was a project contributor a little earlier on another project making a small grin about whether or not finding all those small factors when it comes to numbers rather is more a waste of time rather than a valuable contribution to a subject field as a whole. To give an answer to this question, which I really think was an unneccessary thing to do, I would like to say that I happen to do the big tasks as well, at least when it comes to PrimeGrid. As always, the end result is not always given and it definitely takes quite a long time. As long as you do not have the whole picure yourself, you really should not complain about what other people are doing, because in the end, most people are able to obtain achivements on those things they choose to be doing. It becomes each and everyone's way of doing specific things and these same things therefore are likely to be based on the preferences of each individual. A project may have a specific goal as an end ambition both when it comes to its outcome as well as possible success. The way you are supposed to be able to reach such a goal both depends on both the resources, abilities and willingness of its participants. The result of a project is not always given in advance. It always depends on its contributors and their way of approach to how certain things should be carried out in order to be able to obtain the necessary results. |

I love listening to the music. Assumedly it goes with my name here as well. So, Jim Martin's posting here about "Sonic Geometry: The Frequency of Form" gives me some reminders of the past. On my shelf I have lying several different Sound Blaster cards (there are other manufacturers of such cards as well) which have been used on several computers being used in the past, but which now have become retired because of both age as well as wear and tear, including dust collection. The oldest of these cards, a ISA-based Sound Blaster 16, I not have the installation software for. Some newer cards are missing a connector or a socket because of not yet implemented features. The ability of a computer to play back sound is based on the capabilities of both hardware as well as software. Definitely I would not be able to pick up the sound of E.T. speaking if possibly playing back the sound version of a recorded work unit coming my way from Arecibo, but totally impossible it probably should not be either. Playing around with sound is a fascinating subject area and in order to be able to do this properly, both talent as well as creative abilities are needed. As always, experience counts as well and also what your purpose of creating sound is meant for. Using the computer, typical playback formats are Windows wave and midi formats, as well as RealPlayer, Winamp, the former Musicmatch, now replaced by Yahoo! Music, as well as file formats coming from several other manufacturers as well. Please have me excused. These things vanished here when I put Windows XP on the shelf and replacing it with Windows Ultimate instead. Despite several problems, there probably lies quite a wealth of such packages, almost making up a treasure on the discs that for now are stowed away. Perhaps it now should be time to be doing something about this. I do have two more 3 TB discs unpacked on the shelf as well and I am running on only one working partition. The other discs as well as partitions, including Windows 8 apparently blew and also the Windows Ultimate 32-bits installation disc for some reason broke as well. Definitely I should be kept busy doing this stuff for the rest of my life. |

Definitely do not leave the decision about transmitting our existence into space by the hands of the politicians. Even not the military should have the final say, in my opinion. Really, it should be up to the scientists to make such a decision and this should be based on a consensus being reached by means of a debate. Such a debate we are having right now, and by means of doing this, we are seeing both the pros as well as cons when it comes to different opinions. In favor of broadcasting our presence into space, it may be comfortable to know that we possibly are not alone and whether or not the intentions or willingness of another civilization existing in space, they might well come along and give us a helping hand if something went totally wrong here and we possibly became doomed. On the other hand, we do not know all aspects of nature yet, at least when it comes to the particular details and those elements being part of it which to us still are unknown, yet unexplained phenomena. Not necessarily attributed to the possible existence of extraterrestrials, there are still certain things we do not know about nature and such things might well rather be used as a tool by other civilizations being more advanced than us. Such a tool might well be used against us if it ever should happen. Apparently there is a difference between a beautiful sunset and those shadows in the dark. The first one is easy to comprehend, but the second may not be so. You always need to be looking at the subject at hand and the possible intentions of anyone else before making a decision whether or not trying to establish a contact is a feasible and reasonable one and therefore the best thing to do. Is curiosity and ambitions the possible winner here, or does it once again become a question about being rational when it comes to thinking and better be of the opinion that being able to survive is as a result of being cautious? Apparently time will tell who in the end were able to make the final or best decision when it comes to this subject. |

Reading Bob De Woody's question in the non-Seti Science Board, I had to go back and make a check on this. Barnards star is one of our closest neighbors in space. Except for Alpha Centauri, which is a triple star system having the small red dwarf Proxima Centauri as our closest star except for the sun, this star has a visual amplitude of 9,54. The problem is that it is moving at speed of 10,3 arc seconds against the faint background of stars each year. This means that in 180 years it changes its position in the sky roughly the diameter of the moon. So, if you happen to be looking at a picture taken of the field surrounding this star in 1960 and compare with a similar photograph taken in 1980, you will be able to notice its movement against the faint background of stars. Also, it is located in a very rich area of the Milky Way, in the constellation of Ophiuchus. The nearest bright star in the field is 70 Ophiuchi. Therefore, trying to locate its current position in the sky is not an easy task because the photograph I came across using Wikipedia was recorded in 2008 and even since then, its position may have changed a bit. The only thing possible to do is to make a note of the given co-ordinates (which may be those for the enclosed picture dated 2008) for the star and try locating it using sky-map.org or a similar reference. Another red dwarf star which is slightly more distant, but much fainter is Wolf 359 in Leo. It has a proper motion of 4.696 arc seconds each year and may be a difficult object suited only for a large telescope because of its apparent visual magnitude of only 13,5. The Milky Way may contain a huge amount of such red dwarf stars, but they are only visible when relatively close to us in space. If being farther away, they become too faint to detect. Therefore it may not currently be possible to detect such stars in globular clusters, although it may be somewhat easier to find white dwarf stars instead, because they are slightly brighter as well as their more blue or white color. Even though some of these stars may be having planets, they are not the place for life to exist. The temperature is too low and the luminosity from these stars may be compared to a source lighting up or illuminating a room. The place in space most suited for life are neither those red dwarf stars like Barnards star or Wolf 359. You likely are not able to find any life around stars like Rigel in Orion, as well as other, more exotic objects that may also be found in space. I very well could continue giving examples regarding this subject, but hope that this gives a simple answer to the question being posted. |

These thoughts should be meant for reading entertainment only since it happens to be a Sunday. Do not take the following stuff too serious. What are humans role or place in nature? Is the world we are living in supposed to be only a physical one, or is it perhaps more to all of it? In a world filled with conflicts you are supposed to be able to put up a defense in order to possible being able to go on the offensive. Some people are likely to be pushing other people away in order to be served first. In some instances, getting rid of such pushers gets quite tough, because these people either have the fist, or at least are thinking that they are getting things right. When we are observing nature, we may at times be able to observe beauty and peace. At other times, what may be regarded as the beast may be lurking in the background. To scientists, this becomes neutron stars, quasars, black holes and the like. These objects may be regarded as being sinister, because they are cannibals, swallowing everything in their surroundings. But these objects are not living and thinking ones. They only are products of nature and therefore products of evolution. Here on earth the forces of law and justice is supposed to bring a solution to given problems. The bad guys are supposed to end up behind bars or perhaps sent straight to heaven by the executioner. Therefore it should be no room for wars in order to solve possible conflicts which may be around. Humans are known to be sleeping some eight hours each day. In that period, the physical body is being maintained and repaired, but even then parts of your body, including your brain may still be busy working. Because you are not supposed to be moving around and making decisions during that time, your brain instead starts a dreaming process which partly makes you solve the problems you may have as well as possibly give you some entertainment as well. In nature, peace and evilness is supposed to be living hand in hand. Creation is followed by destruction and this becomes an endless, never ending cycle. Nature is not supposed to be evil, because it does not have a mind on its own. Creation is supposed to be a random process, possibly based on the principles of evolution. But for now we have no proof of any divine force behind the processes of nature as well as its inception. Still, the thinking process is a very important aspect when it comes to intelligent beings, including humans and the dreaming process is only a part, although an important one, of this process. Because of our two-part brain, our way of deducing solutions to given problems may at times be a result of deduction. Such ability of being able to deduce certain solutions is because of the thinking process which is part of the brain. What may have started up as an idea may be because of a dream you may have had. Possibly it was because of an intuition that came up with you. If possible Type II civilizations existing in the universe are based only on command ships and destroyers, this is because such civilizations may be there as a result or with the purpose of war and conflicts on their mind. One part is supposed to attack another because there may be a conflict of resources, most likely natural ones, or there may be that the possible attacker or aggressor wants something which the other part only is having. Therefore, you should be afraid of being swallowed by a black hole which may come your way and not some possible extraterrestrial beings. They may come in peace, or they may come for the purpose of war, conquest and aggression, but in any case, the possible outcome of such an encounter may not be predicted in advance. If such beings happen to exist at all, they are still only part of nature. Nature is all about those physical bodies, particularly astronomical and astrophysical bodies we happen to know quite a bit about. Extraterrestrials, if they happen to exist, becomes a part of nature which may be slightly more advanced and developed than what we may typically be able to observe. This again depends on what they really are supposed to be all about. We need to go back and look at ourselves and the role we are supposed to be having in nature by means of looking at our intensions and purposes when doing our regular business. If we only are able to think about ourselves and possibly being greedy and ruthless, there becomes no room for other people and you are left being in charge of everything. When this happens, you possibly may be able to come up with or creating things of your own interest with the hope that what you are trying to make may give you the best results. All of this goes with our mind and its way of thinking and dreaming. It may go wild and astray at times because of our thinking process. Because the mind is a metaphysical one and not physical, you may not be able reach any conclusions when it comes to its way of evolution and development. |

From what I am currently able to read in the news is that the subject of initiating possible communication with extraterrestrial intelligence is becoming a hot potato and therefore a subject belonging to politics. In fact, I am not carrying out any specific scientific research on my own. Neither am I working in a lab either. Is it because of the lack of understanding and knowledge among ordinary people about certain things that may not be readily understood or comprehended, or is it because of a possible assumption that nature may be hiding secrets for us which may be real but still not for anyone of us, including scientists, to possibly be able to give an explanation for? Being able to have an objective mind about certain subjects does not necessarily give a ready answer to all of the questions which may be around and therefore you wish to find an answer to. If we happen to be able to make a distinction between natural occurring phenomena, are we supposed to shy away from a possible encounter with alien beings because of possible scenario of intimidation or fear which may become the result of such an encounter if it ever should happen? Curiosity and ambitions always come with a possible high price when something goes wrong. Remember the two shuttle disasters for a somber example of this ever happening. Going into space by means of the shuttle was not necessarily about returning back to the moon, but having a launch vehicle gives an opportunity for both exploration as well as developing the necessary components in order to bring us further into space, making it possible for us to visit other planets in the solar system like Mars. Possible gain, including economic gains sometimes bring a high cost with it. An investment is not always supposed to return the desired results, at least not in a short term. The oil industry is an example such strategies being employed when it comes to harness the resources that lies deep below the ocean floor as well as other places. Of course we do not have to be there ourselves in order to be able to make accomplishments. It is possible to carry out valuable science by placing telescopes, including radio and infrared ones in space, or even have an optical telescope placed on the surface of the moon, particularly the back side, where no atmosphere is present and there is no sun above the horizon for 14 days or so each month. Also, the way we are approaching possible extraterrestrials is also based on an assumption of whether or not they do exist at all and may be even visiting us at times. There may be some results around which may give a possible indication of this in fact being true. Still, numbers often are either being taken with a grain of salt (meaning not too serious), or the truth of the whole story may be too hard to grasp, making most of us likely to forget about the whole story. Edit: Again having some running problems here, including two blue screens being observed. Also a little hot again on the CPU, because I am continuing on the PrimeGrid Genefer World Record task. You should remember that I am doing a couple of things as well, not only being here for fun. |

Are we just able to learn that we are only one small part in a big puzzle? In this case the puzzle is our notion of everything around us which we sometimes may not be able to understand. We are trying to locate planets around other stars in the Milky Way. Because we now are able to know that there is in fact planets around other stars, we assume some of these stars may contain life on its own. As should be well known, the Drake equation gives an estimate of the number of possible intelligent civilizations in the Milky Way compared with the total number of stars existing there. If a planet orbiting a star other than the sun is supposed to be having life, a stable orbit, together with an atmosphere as well as a liquid ocean are necessary in order for this to be possible. Life could well be existing many places in the galaxy, but intelligent life only becomes a possibility as a result of development and evolvement over time. If the conditions are ideal, a given race may become an interstellar or galactic species. In such instances we are speaking of possible Type I and more specifically, Type II civilizations. If other intelligent beings are present, we assume these beings to be physical ones. Like us, they most likely adhere to some basic principles when it comes to their patterns of behavior. In daily life, most astronomers are using their time trying to understand cosmos by means of its physical laws and properties. Because of the uniqueness of the earth, we are finding both life as well as intelligence here which for now has yet to be found other places in space. Humans are supposed to be both curious and inquisitive. Because of our sometimes ambitious goals, we have been able to reach a lot of milestones as a result of our abilities. Have a look back in history to the time where humans were living in tribes. At times different tribes encountered each other with sometimes conflict and aggression becoming the result of such an event. When this happens, one may ask oneself which part is to blame for such a thing happening. We could well be able to detect intelligence in nature, but if this ever should happen, it may rather be a spectacular and peaceful event for everyone to enjoy. So, therefore it comes down to the way you may be able to come to a given conclusion. Here on earth, despite most of us living here not necessarily being stupid or primitive by nature, we are supposed to be living in a world "permeated" or "pervaded" by evil, war and aggression. There are many people around who are having the notion or view that the earth is unique in the Milky Way and possibly the universe as a whole because of not necessarily a divine belief of this being true, more back to the usual way of thinking about religious values based on ethics and moral. As should be well known, science is supposed to based on objective conclusions based on scientific facts. Based on such an assumption, is it possible to make a decision about whether or not it is reasonable to broadcast our presence into space in order for anyone possible out there being able to detect our presence? If I was able to learn that intelligence may be present around other planets in the Milky Way galaxy and these little things were using all the time shining in red, yellow and green - that is fine with me. I would not bother much at all and rather enjoy the show which could well be a spectacular one to watch. If there instead happened to be existing reptilian monsters on two, four, or even six legs with only one thought on their minds, namely the extinction of the human race, I would of course be more reluctant when it comes to a given approach. The problem is then that if we do not seek answers to our questions, we never will be able to get a satisfactory answer to our questions and therefore not being able to reach a conclusion when it comes to our basic questions regarding some important questions that we may be having. |

If you do not mind. First, please remember that it is nice to have some friends here. Speaking of dedication, you are supposed to participate in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence because of either pure interest, or a wish to either know or being able to prove a given fact. If the result or expectation of a given project is not known in advance, you are not assumed to be stupid either or perhaps be pretending to be such. That said, we are currently undertaking this research project because there is a general assumption based on previous knowledge as well as experience that the true facts behind the possible existence of extraterrestrial intelligence is a fact that may indeed be true. For this project, having a positive attitude towards it and its intended meaning should be a better thing than just thowing nonsense all the time. It definitely does not help very much at all when it comes to this project. I am not supposed to be seeing a smile around everywhere here either, at least not all the time, but this it what it better should be in order for this to be working. Yes, you may be allowed to be skeptical, or not having an opinion at all when it comes to this project, but like research on numbers, you may at times be able to dig into the unknown. Science is a most compelling and interesting field of interest. At times the way you may be able to approach a given subject and try to voice your own opinion regarding certain facts, it may only be done so by means of creative thinking and your way of stating these things in order to be both listened to as well as being understood. Meaningful contents and a given way of approaching the subject of science is the best way of doing these things. There will always be someone agreeing with your opinion about certain things in the same way as there always will be someone who choose to completely disagree about the same. Different points of view always varies between people having different opinions about a given subject, but if you try to engage in a given subject, you always come out better if you are able to make your specific point. Scientists are known to have come to the wrong conclusions at times. This does not necessarily make them poor scientists, but only comes to show that unless you happen to be both dedicated and talented as well as educated, you soon may end up coming up with or reaching the wrong conclusion. The best thing to be is both having the ability of being biased about your subject of interest as well as a general understanding and knowledge about your study field. If I choose to look away while at the same time is making research into a specific field of study, noone should be able to approach me and tell me that I was wrong all the time. Neither am I assumed to have been correct in my assumptions about the same things either, of course. |

Thanks, Julie. Should tell you that we are having quite a big winter storm here. Hurricane force winds this time hitting the northern part of the country worst. Big waves coming ashore along the coastline. Some waves are almost 20 meters high, but this can not be felt here, since I am living quite a distance from the ocean, some 170 meters above the sea level. Right now the snow is coming down in quite big amounts. It became colder with the gale force winds coming from the west or northwest. It is not too bad here, but there was a quite strong gust of wind hitting my windows earlier. As you may understand, this bad weather affects the mood as well. Therefore I should return back here a little later on instead. |

Please forget about the time of day, Julie. Probably I am losing out a little, including the notion of time. Should tell you that I found a PRP1085 here this evening. http://factordb.com/index.php?id=1100000000750711291 Apparently two old, friendly men posing for the camera, sitting together and telling their story. I like these two people. They are so forthcoming. We remember that during the program for making a nuclear bomb in order to stop the Japanese, most of the research was based on rather simple principles. There were at least two obstacles. The scientists had to extract uranium 235 from the ordinary 238, a process which was extremely complex and needed refineries all over the United States. Also the scientists did not know how much uranium 235 would be needed in order to be able to obtain such a fusion process. In this instance the process was assumed to be an uncontrolled one, leading to a chain reaction of events. The necessary amount for this to happen is called the critical mass. In order to avoid this happening, two separate elements each weighing less than this critical mass, but exceeding this limit when joined or fused together were needed. As should probably be known, an explosive charge in a chamber is supposed to bring these two masses together, starting the fusion process. Saying that, the important point here is that technological research and development, which includes areas or fields like energy and weapons research, also includes research into new types of planes. Both the U-2, as well as the SR71 Blackbird and also the F117 stealth plane and the B2 bomber are the result of this development. Intelligence is the result of a physical presence of something. To us it means humans and some animals like dolphins and chimpanzees. In the same way, technological research and development and similar advances becomes the result of our intelligence. We are able to both come up with ideas as well as creating certain things by using our two part brains as well as our hands. Also mechanical and electronic tools are aiding our development when it comes to things that are needed in order to carry out specific functions. So, is it a possibility that someone left their belongings for us to be dealing with instead? Should we believe in this story? When I am able to hear a story about a crashed saucer, do I assume this to be the same as a flying disc? If something ever crashed, was it supposedly damaged or destroyed beyond repair, or were someone able to recreate such a thing, possibly with outside help, making it able to once again fly? Planes are able to fly because they are having wings and also because there is an atmosphere as well. We are assumed to be taking certain things for granted. The development of the helicopter is a major achievement and making it flying in a controlled matter or fashion is the most important point when it comes to this development. We may have seen the black and white movie or video of someone sitting in an open seat or cabin flying a hoovercraft just above the ground. It was having an engine for propulsion, but was flying on the air around or below it. UFO's on the other hand are thought of as being able to fly at tremendous speed and possibly both emerge and vanish in an instant on the place they are being observed. Our way of observing such objects are limited to our current understanding of the laws of physics as we happen to know and understand them. If such objects are existing at all, they are supposed to be breaking, or at least using the principles behind gravity and time. If such objects really are crafts, they have been created by someone. At least when it comes to us humans, we know that we are the result of natural evolution and there really should be no reason to think that we happen to be a product of some innovative or creative development. |

Another thing. You do not (or are not supposed to) kill unarmed people in a hail of bullets. Shame on you (regardless of circumstances). Perhaps time to "emphasize" a couple of things, perhaps. Like "yes, I was inside a craft", but not filling out taxations forms. And there apparently is mentioning of Papoose Lake? Just was able to catch the name and was able to locate the place by making a search on the term using Google. Please do not make a fool of me. Alien agenda... Watch the video instead. |
