I'll be generous and say he was more middle of road, but his views and attitude were always very conservative. The mirror was run by Murdoch for the longest time and we all know what his agenda was.

If I would live in the US, my media of choice would be Al Jazeera, which is about the closest one could get to a relatively fair and balanced coverage of world events. That and of course the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, the only two shows that effectively call the rest of the mainstream media on their bull****. But thankfully I can watch both of those shows from here already :)

If I lived in the USA I would like the climate, and the people. But I would detest their political system and the way that their government works, and I would hate their gun laws, and their penchant for shooting anything that moves on 4 legs every Autumn. I don't read enough of their press to form an opinion on it, and I certainly don't take much notice of what I read here. Anyone who posts in on-line bulletin boards is usually strongly leaning one way or another.

But people need to get as many opinions from different sources as possible to effectively make their own minds up on issues. I try to read at least one left wing and right wing paper a week, see the BBC News, plus talk to people active in the field of my interests. Plus have a laugh at the Seti ramblings.

That newspaper list is 3 years old, but it probably still holds true, and if you look, all the Establishment papers are right wing, and all the tabloids are left wing. Well there is no surprise there then is there? The People that Govern, run and own the country are right wing, and the working class are left wing. Except the pseudo intellectuals of the Grauniad and Observer who mutter over their muesli about the price of a decent Chardonnay.

The owners of big media outlets are corporations with agendas. The people hired to run those outlets are chosen for their ability to promote the corporate agendas.

I'm a leftist, way out left of most, and I cancelled delivery of my local newspaper because of my perception of right wing bias.

The website I quoted was icasualties.org and my bad as I only listed those losses in Afghanistan. Total US losses 2001-2008 in both countries was 4852 while from 2009-2013 was 1926.

I had no intention of misleading anyone bit I still feel that most of the US press has a noticeable bias regarding how war coverage is presented depending on which party is in power.

Well I find it odd that the US media is so up in arms about Obamacare and Benghazi but seem to have all but ignored the NSA spying on everyone in the whole world and his murdering innocent people with drones.

I'm sorry but if you use 'middle east' in this way you automatically include Iraq. In fact, if you know your geography, you would know that in this context, Afghanistan would actually be excluded, as it is located in Central Asia. If indeed, he just meant casualty figures for Afghanistan only, he should have specifically stated that.

In fact, he mentioned both Iraq and Afghanistan in the first sentence of the OP.

I vaguely remember a report from years ago that the DoD was no longer releasing casualty figures to the media and was denying cameramen access to film coffins being unloaded from the transport planes. IIRC this was during the Bush years and it was a reaction to the anti-war feeling such statistics and images were generating

If you think the US media has a "Left Wing" bias can you please explain why it not carrying out a real campaign against Wall St. and all the shonky goings on there, why there is no demands for criminal charges against the crooks running the US financial system, why there are no calls to start prosecutions against corrupt politicians, etc. etc. and why Miley Cyrus "twerking" is front page news ?

Even FOX is not reporting casualty figures any more!

I suggest you will find this has nothing to do with "bias". I think you will find that "deals have been done" and brown paper bags exchanged. Any bias present today is financial, NOT political.

Besides, everyone knows that the only honest political comment on US politics comes from John Stewart and Stephen Colbert.
