But you can't effectively say things like what you posted out loud because:

1) It's FOR the CHILDREN! You're mean, evil and a non-team player!
2) It takes a village.
3) Children are our future.
4) Why do you hate children?
5) It's the Christian thing to do.
6) etc.

I could cite a Saul Alinsky Rule here, but I won't bother.

Why not? Politicians do and so does the press.....

Ah yes, for the children - very Christian

Nick Clegg defends free school meals for children aged six and seven

Defend as much as he likes, why the hell are we tax payers having to pay for
these kids, there not ours!! Next thing we know we will be both clothing them
and buying them presents for Christmas too.

...and providing them with free food, housing, healthcare, and spending money for the rest of their lives.

But you can't effectively say things like what you posted out loud because:

Guy, I guess I'm just wicked at heart.

Methinks you have been reading too many secondhand copies of the Mail Nick!

And me suspects Cleggy see free schools meals as a vote catcher for his party.

It was firstly the right thing to do as a matter of principle. But secondly, don't lets be naive, the upside of it was of course a helpful vote catcher as well.

Totally agree in the principle where families struggle to find the finance
to feed their children whilst at school. But does that not tell one that perhaps
some families actually can't really afford to feed the quantities of children that they have
got. It's starts at five, extends to seven, gets raised to nine then on to
eleven then before we know it extends to cover all children of all ages whilst
at school. The social system in the UK continues to wet-nurse, it's not good and
the public should be wary of allowing themselves to become too dependent upon
the state. There has been a throw back to all of this, welfare benefits being
in excess of that which could be earned by working. Results being that foreigners
find it very conducive to emigrate to the UK, in vast numbers, take on the
lower paid jobs then ship their wages back home country. Supply and demand,
as I have mentioned in previous threads, supply of workers goes up yet the
demand for them goes down results in lower wages. Under these conditions
workers accept the lower wages. But where governments step in and interfere
with this supply by fixing benefits equal to or above the current low wages
levels then worker will sit on their backsides at home. Result being that
instead of wages now rising to entice the workers to take up work the
employers keep wages low because there is now a never ending supply of immigrants
permitted to come to this country and take up these lower paid jobs.

This now leads on to the big cry we have at times regarding the haves and the
have nots. That's because the unskilled are having their wages suppressed by
immigrant workers, where as the skilled workers are experiencing less competition here
in this domain. Result being that the spread in wages between skilled workers
and those of the unskilled workers widens. So what do governments then do to
interfere/tinkle with this imbalance that they have created? Simple, create a minimum
wage policy, it's not for government ever to interfere with wage levels.

As regards, " don't lets be naive", "lets be" is certainly not me-me...for sure-sure.

UK's triple AAA rating under threat

That'll please the Frenchies!

"The government has now decided it should not be paying interest to the Bank of England, and the benefit of that has reduced the deficit and will continue to do so for the next four years."

As the bankers got us into this mess and the government did nothing about it, can someone decide for all mortgage payers to have that apply to their interest payments for the next four years?

Good post Nick, but got any answers?

Bacon and Walter Eltis in Britain’s Economic Problem Revisited. They
suggest that Britain was different from other countries in that the
growth of the state was much greater from the 1960s onwards. The
British problem was that greater resources were taken in taxation
combined with a massive expansion of public sector jobs.

Where do you start Chris??

Some of the answers to our problems can be seen from an extract taken above.
Reduce public sector jobs, yes, cut down on the state which is consuming far
too much money that could be returned to the economy to promote growth.
A good study of UK economics from post WW2 up until 1970 would do us all the
world of good. But one thing I must say, forming the EU has done nothing much
to promote healthy growth within Europe and unless the EU totally reforms then it
has to go....lock-stock and 27 smoking barrels.

It's also interesting to note from the post WW2 economics studies carried out
that mass immigration during the 50's to 60's was the tool used to fill the
labour shortages being suffered back then. This can not be said of today...
.... we have a problem and it's being part of the EU that is the cause of this.
Result, the labour market is unable to regulate itself through normal supply
and demand levels, those to be expected over a normal economics cycle.

What may be more realistic is a 27 country vote to scrap the EU and bring back the EEC!

Would dearly like to see this happen but I do believe France would be against
this for their farmers would seriously loose out....Oh what a shame.

That's France and Spain crossed off your holiday list, who's next?

We like comedy, but profit comes first

"Every year I would prepare a line on that, to go to the media, to criticise British Gas. Every year, it would be quashed," he said.

"It was a clear, 'We can't do that, because we take money from British Gas...' - that would have come down from on high."

Of course it would, they would lose all their free corporate dinners and tickets to shows, football matches, theatre, No 10 etc etc.

The BBC has also seen evidence which suggests Save the Children censored criticism of energy firms, to avoid upsetting corporate partners.

Just like the BBC you are muck raking and enjoying it.
