Clouded, rainy and 13°C, whatever happened to Winter??

It's still here. Snow this afternoon/evening, then above freezing for three or four days, with rain tomorrow at least. (Which, while they haven't said it yet, will probably lead to flooding since there's nowhere for the rain to go with the ground frozen solid and covered with hard-packed snow.)

We're asking ourselves the same question in the UK Julie. Not seen a frost since November. I think the Americans need to stop hogging Winter and give some to us!

- Is supposed to start turning cooler (but not cold) here.

If it's anything like last year we'll probably get snow that lasts a day or two in the middle of February and that'll be "winter" :)

A huge snowstorm just hit my area, and we are literally being DUMPED on. I can barely see outside my window...

Wishing there was a pipeline you folks east of the Rockies could shovel that snow into and pump it to the Sierras. Most of our local flood control lakes are at 30% capacity or less and no snow to speak of, normally about 40-45% with a decent snowpack. Other than overnight lows in the high-30s, it's been more like October than January. The Roman Catholic Bishop of Fresno says "Pray For Rain".

Cloud cover here also. We dont get to see the northern lights often, But when we do its an amazing sight. I woke the wife up quite a few years ago to see one. She was mad at first but when she saw the red glow that shimmed from half the sky she thanked me. Most times its a light green or white we see.

I agree with you Donald. I have lived in California now for over 34 years and this is the driest year I remember.
It seems the Galt/Thornton area got a sprinkle a couple of days ago.

We're moving snow around by the truckload to get it out of the way. I suppose if you want to pay to drive it out there, you can have it for free.

Yesterday's low here was 18 below zero f.
The highs are supposed to be 32f to 38f for the next 3 days.

Wild ride.

Woo hoo! Mid-40s F tomorrow!

But then a cold front comes through on Monday. Not as bad as last time, at least here (low 20s here, 2F in Minneapolis on Tuesday).

We had our first frost for about 6 weeks. Down to -3C last night, but another Atlantic low approaching today bringing milder temps, more wind and rain again today.

So far in 2014 there have been NO dry days here, if it rains today it will be the 12th consecutive day of rain - a far cry from what I just read about our friends in California!

Oh look, within an hour we've gone from hard frost (-3C) to 5C and light drizzle. You have to love living on an Island surrounded by water...

For those of you interested I have my own weather station at home (http://www.westonweather.co.uk) and have just finished building a Stevenson Screen to house the temperature sensor.

Full details are on my forum thread HERE.

Yesterday a Low passed over the Valley. Yosemite got a couple thousandths of an inch of rain, the rest of us got cloud cover, and a bit of fog this morning that has now burned off. 10-day forecast shows highs in the low 60s, lows in the high 30s - low 40s and no rain in sight. Feels more like October than January.

It rained here all last night. Cloudy all day. High was in the low 50's. Seeing as I dont like shovelling snow I like it.
