I wouldn't buy anything labelled "Made in China" on principle, therefore I am very wary of all this apparent wish to invest in the UK. Methinks no good will come of it.

Chinese investment

In the USA, I see so much "Made in China" on everything...it's our fault though, Americans are no longer producers, only consumers.

The 18th & 19th century was owned by the British, the 20th century owned by the
Americans, the 21st century will be owned by the Chinese, Indians and by Brazil.
We have no choice but to open our doors to them and benefit from their economical
expansion. If we don't then we like other western nations risk becoming the
Argentina's of this 21st century.

Message 1428078 - Posted: 13 Oct 2013, 16:32:25 UTC - in response to Message 1428063.

I see three major threats in the next 50 years to the world today as we currently know it.
    An asteroid hit
    Islam
    China

I fear we can do little about any of them.

I get a funny feeling that Islam may turn out to be more of a threat to it's self
in the end. But in the mean time a threat to us all including our westernised
Muslims.

China, now that's a tough one to gauge....But for sure, it's not going to
attempt to burn down any banks around the world that it's got it's own money
in. Neither will it burn down any houses around the world that it may own and live
in nor factories that it may own or have invested in....well. I assume not?

You don't listen to the logical arguments, so now you get the dullnando style post. :P

Nice teaching. Aren't teachers supposed to rise above that sort of behaviour?

You seem to think so, and seem to think every place is a classroom, every moment is a teachable moment. Someone just doesn't want to learn. ;)

When the logical arguments come up with solutions that work, then I'll listen and learn. Until then all I see is just talk for the sake of talking.

I think some of you are talking more than me, so ... ?

Really? Just how much talking has been done over your budget?

You can't even get around a table to discuss the running of your country without brinkmanship.

Topic changer. Just like some in the NRA and GOP.
Here, I thought you were assailing my character and ability to do my job, when you were really concerned about the mugjapes in DC.
Well, now that that's cleared up, I'll leave you alone a while. :)

Ah I see, not logical arguments then. Hmmn, no wonder the Yanks are up a tree, as well as Europe for that matter.

Other than having the wrong Cold War politics, what has China ever done to the US? Even Nixon was ready to overlook that. And when Carter raised its one child policy he was asked how many millions the US wanted.

Historically the US sent troops to China to protect trade concessions aka Boxer Rebellion. Historically China won a civil war against the dictator Chiang Kai Chek. Historically China defended North Korea from being ruled by a South Korean dictator. Seems to me China should be more concerned about the US than vice versa.

It ultimately comes down a choice between working with them or against them, and since they have money and a fifth of the worlds population, i think working with them is the sensible option.

The socialist party in the USA will spend us into oblivion internally, meanwhile the GOPs foreign policies will piss everyone off externally...we cannot win with the republicans and the liberals. We need independents or congress will implode.

China might be looking like a good place to hide in about 10 years with all the silliness in Washington DC.

Whew I thought we were in trouble until I realized we don't have a socialist party running this country. I'm more worried about the unfunding the Conservatives do. Cut taxes and don't cut spending. Reagan did it and failed. What makes the current bunch of libertarian wannabees better than Reagan.

About the earlier comment about Americans don't produce anything anymore. I think its more about American businesses going for as much green as greed can get them over employing their fellow Americans. They'd rather step over the homeless than make work available in the States.
