I'm allergic to penicillin too, which may explain why I don't like blue cheese salad dressing, they are both made from the same bacteria...

I, too, am allergic to penicillin; however, I am able to take cephalosporins which are related to penicillin. I, also, also don't like blue cheese.

Thanks TL04, I didn't know about cephalosporins, so My idea might be valid after all, about why I don't like blue cheese, it tastes bad to Me, I've always preferred either thousand island or ranch.

I spent 9 years doing seasonal work for a local government agency that tested citrus trees for the Tristeza virus family. We collected leaves from trees to test for tristeza virus DNA. Spent a LOT of time in groves with bee hives.

The 3 Ds:

Don't wear white clothing or floral scents - the bees will mistake you for a flower.

Don't run near bees - they will think you are a threat and react accordingly.

Don't swat at them - that REALLY gets them angry.

We screened all employees for allergies to bees stings, and also did our best to weed out those who were afraid of bees. One spring I had a woman who had a panic attack as soon as we parked next to a grove with bee hives in it. I had to call a Supervisor to come take her home.

Neither I nor any of my crews got stung during those 9 Spring seasons. Just walk slow, move slow, keep your collar buttoned, and don't panic if one lands on you.

I like bees. I will usually feed the bees during the cold months if the
temperature get high enough. I'll make something like hummingbird
nectar only a little thicker, with more sugar. Then I put it in a
modified hummingbird feeder. The bees can empty a hummingbird
feeder in a couple of hours!

Here's a video I made. I actually stood very close to the feeder for
this video. The original is much longer. I only posted part of it.

That is such a good idea! :) My wingless bumble bee I rescued about a month ago is still doing very well - even my cats seem quite fond of watching him potter about now instead of trying to hunt him through the perspex :)

Imagine a world devoid of bees, about 1/2 to 2/3rds of our food would go bye bye, We do need them and their help in pollinating plants, there is not viable alternative, at least not that I've heard of.

I don't mind bees at all - stinging is a last resort for them - literally. But I wouldn't want one flying into my eye - having one entangled in my hair was enough for me :).

The bee population here has crashed significantly. :( In a recent experiment comparing hand pollination by humans to that carried out by bees on strawberry plants, it was discovered that it's not just that bees pollinate crops, it's how they do it which is crucial to crop yields. The hand pollinated yield was less than 20% that of the bee pollinated, and the berries were deformed and inedible in many instances.

Now wasps on the other hand - I'm not too keen on those guys...

Edit: and honey is good too... and leads to some amazing co-operation between species in seeking it out :)

Honey has many good and valuable properties, the ancient Egyptians found this out, We had to find out stuff like this all over again, a lot of human knowledge was lost when the Great Library at Alexandria was lost to the sea.

Speaking of bugs and glasses...

I was driving in Germany one fine spring day (or early summer - I don't
really remember). It was such a nice day that I rolled my window down.
As I was driving, a bee flew in through the opened window and smashed
on my glasses (left eye). It was pretty gross. But it could have been much
worse, of course. I thank God I was wearing glasses.

Suzie-Q, Glasses come in handy. They saved me once also.
I hate Bees :( Glad your okay. :-)
