Cool With Snakes And 'Abundant Biting Insects'? This Internship's For You!

LINCOLN PARK (Chicago, IL) — The Notebaert Nature Museum is looking for an avid snake handler.

The museum has posted a position for a field intern to work on a "regional snake conservation project," primarily in north-suburban Lake County.

Tasks will include "handling, catching, identifying, measuring and marking small non-venomous snakes," as well as "swabbing" snakes and amphibians for disease surveillance.

I could do that! But I'm nowhere near there. :-(

I'm close enough but not the least bit interested.

No. I was even scared by just looking at her with her "pets"!

Now that summer is here, the backside is evenings filled with mosquitoes and little knots.
An attempt at mosquito control may be to get bats to settle in your garden.

For 15 years, Dave Karlsson has noticed that it is becoming more common for people to set up bat hollowss in their gardens. Not least for help with summer nights' mosquito control.
- A bat male eats up to 5000 mosquitos per night. If you have a couple of hollows who get occupied, say ten male males, about 50,000 mosquitoes will disappear every night, says Dave Karlsson.

I stepped on a scorpion when I was outside with the weed eater trimming the lawn.

The President of Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solis, swallowed a "wasp" during a conversation with journalists.

Yum! :)

Our dog caught a bumblebee in his mouth once. From the moment he shut his mouth, to the moment he opened it and set it free, he staggered round the garden rolling his eyes and shaking his head.

Spiders that are 12cm in width have been emerging around British homes with one thing on their mind......

... Arachnophobes in Britain are preparing for “spider season” where the eight-legged critters only have one thing on their mind.

How big you’re wondering?

Greater Manchester local Andrew Taylor recently encountered a spider so massive it set off his burglar alarm.
