Oxygen is toxic to obligately anaerobic organisms, which were the dominant form of early life on Earth until O2 began to accumulate in the atmosphere. Free elemental O2 only began to accumulate in the atmosphere about 2.5 billion years ago. Oxygen event |

I hate bugs :( Or down the drain, I found some moth larvae munching on some pancake batter, ever since then I buy the stuff in plastic bags, the bag was made of paper that had been invaded, yuck! Though I've found not all Krusteaz plastic bags are good, some work and are resealable, others are not, so I keep a pair of good Krusteaz plastic sealable bags on hand, so far no bugs in My food, it's that or cans or some sort of bug proof container. I hate bugs :( I have a friend who used to be like that too Lynn - then her husband died unexpectedly and she kind of convinced herself he might return as one. She misses him so much poor thing :/ Talking about cereal bugs :) the invention of the tupperware party did put a stop to the regular gruesome occurrence of pouring milk onto my rice krispies each morning and waiting for the weevils to abandon ship. Hi Zoom - very interesting post about a time long gone! Thankyou :) |

You would have hated the Carboniferous era then(300mya), Dragonflies were as big as Eagles, Millipedes were the size of Alligators, all thanks to that new invention 300mya called, Trees(they make Oxygen in the day time), they were so new that the normal stuff that recycles trees and such didn't exist yet, so dead trees were buried for millions of years becoming either coal or in some cases Petrified wood, today there is about 20% O2 in the atmosphere, 300mya it was 40%, the Siberian Traps had large amounts of such coal that burned when the volcanoes there erupted for 100mys, liberating lots of CO2 and other noxious gases, some of which were ozone destroying, raising the Earths temps and making a lot of species on land and in the oceans go extinct and making any ice melt which meant sea level rose, sounds familiar too. Of course now trees decay since fungi and such have adapted to devour dead trees(250mya) and there are now termites(200mya), both of which did not happen 300mya... The biggest bug here is a Dragonfly, My car got buzzed this morning by one, sorry no pics... Here's an African one for you - though there were ones a lot bigger, or maybe I was a lot smaller - it's a long time ago now :) |

Fastest and loudest I've ever left a bed was when a scorpion crawled out from under my pillow. Oo-eur-hghhh - that made me shudder all over again! :) |

I had the experience of having a large cockroach crawling on me in bed the other night. I was wearing a long-sleeve top and felt the nasty bastard when he crawled onto my hand. I tried to put him out of the bed but he came back to the same hand a short time later, at which time I threw him onto the floor, turned on the light, and smashed the hell out of him with a shoe. Unfortunately this is something you come to expect when you live in central Texas. It makes you wonder how many cockroaches have crawled into or onto the bed at nightwithout being detected. The large cockroaches are everywhere down here, and mostly like to stay outside. They'll come in, of course, when water is short, or when it gets real cold. ~Sue~ |

Sprayed out, relaxing now... Ortho Home Defense Max is now sprayed around the outside perimeter of My House and on 3 window screens, that ought to keep the bugs at bay, for about a year... Sorry Suzie, I don't like killing bugs, but in here they just die anyway, so I've just put up the keep out sign, this stuff won't help with bugs that fly, of course with bats around here, I think the smaller ones crawl even though they have wings. Understood Suzie-Q, though everytime I hear Suzie, I think of Suzan, as in Monsters and Aliens 'Suzan', aka Ginormica and the blue blob scaring Himself by saying Suzan.
