I agree Simon. What really get my goat are the so called "road safety ex-spurts" who insist that you must have signs to tell you that it is foggy/windy/raining/whatever when it should be be down to drivers being aware of what is going on around them. The area around the Sheppey Crossing is known to a fog trap, it is built on the edge of a marsh, so will get foggy. Signs are no substitute for brains.... Sheppey crossing safety calls after 130-vehicle crash There have been calls for speed restrictions and overhead lighting on a bridge in Kent where 130 vehicles were involved in a series of crashes in fog. Article Edmund King from the AA said: "As a minimum we would like to see matrix warning signs either side of the bridge, so if there is severe weather it can advise that people should slow down. This seems to me to be another example of idiots saying they're not responsible for what happened because 'there wasn't a sign'. Now, i've only been driving for seven years, but one thing i had impressed into me whilst learning is that the speed limit is a limit, not a target. And that one should always drive according to the conditions. Anyone doing 70 'because that's the limit' in thick fog with 30 feet visibility is a moron, and deserves to crash. Unfortunately, that crash may well be into an innocent victim who was driving according to the conditions. Why can't people take responsibility for their own actions for a change rather than constantly blaming others for not telling them what to do. It's this same buck-passing culture that has 'Caution: Hot!' labels on cups of coffee, and 'Do not alight this side' signs opposite the platform at train stations. Deep breaths Simon! Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge.
