Well, ya know.....

Party time is over, and it's nose to the grindstone again for the ol' kittyman.

I want to behave this coming weekend too, because Friday, Lori is getting a new kitten!!!!

If that's what it takes to get you to behave, then maybe Lori should get a kitten every weekend. I'm sure the Mods would be happier. ;-)

Nothing like a new kitten to bring out the best in a person....LOL.
Besides, I have been working 12 hour shifts this week, so no time to misbehave.

On the subject of Friends:

I have 5 recognized friends here at Seti@Home, and almost 200 on Facebook. Many of those are more like casual acquaintances, or friends of friends, but some are true Friends whom I've known most of my life. Many of you here, even if not on my official "Friends" list, I consider my Friends. In the several years I've been participating in these Forums, we have shared sickness and health, good times and bad, births and deaths. I've only met one of you in person, but feel I have come to know many of you quite well.

People who care about you will tell you when you are heading for disaster and need to change direction, or at least slow down and read the road signs. We talk to each other, and have a level of trust that allows us to tell each other things that we would rather not hear, but need to. Sometimes that hurts. But people are not perfect, and Life isn't fair. Most people will simply note your passage, and some will pull up a chair and urge you to go faster into the side of the mountain.....

Grazie, ma permettimi una correzione. Basta dire meglio, piu' meglio e' sbagliato.

Just for statistics. I have 11 friends here, 7 at Einstein@home and Test4Theory@home, 2 at LHC@home and CPDN, 0 at Albert@home but it is a subset of Einstein@home. So SETI looks like the friendliest environment.

I completely agree with Angela on Internet friends. Over the last few years at the last count, I have met face to face with 19 Setizens from 8 different countries, and been privileged to have stayed in peoples homes. No names as these were private visits and meetings, but they all know who they are, and most of them have become very dear friends to me, and some extra special ones. There are others that I write to at their home addy that I also hope to meet in person one day. In each case I got to know them first on the boards, and then those relationships transferred to real life ones. I have never yet been disappointed in meeting anyone.

I have a lot to thank the Seti project for and I never forget that. With my current GPU cards I could be clocking up somewhere near 1.5 million RAC if I chose, but having recently got the 1 Billion, I content myself with just 16,000 on Seti as my way of saying thank you to the setizens that have enriched my life by their presence.

I don't believe Internet Friendships are Real Friendships.

I completely disagree!

Eric and I have broken bread with many seti crunchers that we initially met on-line. Several have been guests in our home, either for a meal or as overnight house guests. We have had the pleasure of one internet friend's adult daughter and her best friend staying with us for a week, when she and her friend were interviewing for jobs in our area. When we have traveled to other states, we have had the pleasure of sharing meals with internet friends we had not previously met in person. When last we traveled abroad, an internet friend was kind enough to treat us to a lovely meal and show us about a wildlife refuge in his country. In a few weeks, Eric and I will be attending the out of state wedding of an internet friend we have not yet met in person.

I think it is easy to get to know other people on the internet. Sometimes you find out more faster about internet friends than you find out about work friends or neighbors you might consider to be friends.

Internet friends absolutely are real friends, at least to me and Ol' Pookers.

#1 - Personal Friends are not the same as 'Cloud Friends' you have never personally met. One does not really know anyone you have not 'broken bread' with. You do not know them! Just ask many who have used an Internet Dating Service.

#2 - I was talking to ONE person, who was hit very hard by others. Just a way of saying "Don't take seriously those who JUST criticize. They are neither understanding nor constructive."
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

+1 Angela
In our time, answers in a categorical way that Internet doesn't allow to make friends as IRL, it isn't to know how to live with its time.
Or don't know how to tip over some virtual friendship towards the real friendship.
It's little as when certain persons answer me that they don't want to accept my friend's requests on SETI@home.
The argument is often the same: "I'm not friend with anyone. I don't make this kind of thing".
I respect this kind of position.
But in my opinion, it isn't to open to the world of today and especially when we are present on a community site.
And when we transform the virtual meetings into real meetings, we're sometimes surprised by the future of the relations.
And thanks to SETI@home, I managed to communicate with lots of people from Russia to USA.
To give an example, I organized a meeting on September 28 with my team in Montpellier (France).
All members will not be there but we will be a few to meet us when we do we never met before :)

Good for you Angela, only you can say who your friends are.
I have never met any of the people in this form, but they
mostly seem to me to be the kind of people LSM and I would
be happy to call our friends.
