+1 However, define modern generation. Do you mean society today or the younger generation? If you mean the younger, then I have to disagree. Some of my generation & even older are as mean & selfish as ***t. On returning to the depot this afternoon, I've received a written warning. That message I left was harsh yes, but no abuse was involved, the ***t didn't like my tone so issued it. Personnel agreed with him, so union solicitor now involved. His age? 60. Union has issued a statement to all drivers - on entering the workplace, all personal phones to be switched off. Company wishes to contact any driver, purchase company phones bearing in mind that all drivers have the legal right to not answer the phone while driving. Because of this, what that idiot called me onsite came close to causing a walkout. We'll see who'll be walking, him or me. I've seen more dignity from a baby than many elders who we are supposed to respect. |

Sign: If you are talking on your phone, you are at the back of the line.

Good for Cleggy and good for Sainsburys, Well what I actually read was that it was a checkout assistant that asked the women to finish her conversation. Sainsburys have no such policy and the assistant was reprimanded. I suspect none of the big stores would dare introduce such a policy as they would probably loose custom. However as far as I am concerned it is the height of rudeness to be talking on a phone while interacting with another person. However the modern generation have no concept of polite/rude. |

Good for Cleggy and good for Sainsburys, I back them both entirely. These damn mobile gadgets have taken over peoples lives, and it is high time it was stopped. Actually James it is twittering not twitting, but come to think of it your word is more apt! What makes me really sad is that the majority of MP's now have twitter and facebook accounts and use them, because they know that is the best way to reach the younger electorate. Might be a sign of the times but I think it is a negative one. |

You raise an interesting point Sirius, But there is a caveat to that. In my family we ate together every night. And discussion was not only allowed but expected. All four of us kids and my mom and dad would partake. When I had kids of my own we all sat at the table and we had discussions. We never had a set topic we just talked about what ever was brought up. Now I had one friend, Who when they sat at the table no talking was allowed at all. Nowdays it seems every one is twitting and not talking to their own family. I dont have the answer but maybe that next solar flare will blow out the electrical grid and problem solved. [/quote]Old James |

Have we let technology destroy our lives & respect for one another? What a sad, lonely world you live in. I do not fight fascists because I think I can win. I fight them because they are fascists. Chris Hedges A riot is the language of the unheard. -Martin Luther King, Jr. |

I like the idea! You would. You wish to impose your ideas upon others by force.

Just pass a law, on National Holidays twitter and text messaging stop for 24 hours. Make the oik look up for one day. I like the idea! Must not conflict resolve by suggesting that someone should go sit on an ice pick... |

It is more properly called ADHD but we all know what you mean. But I've always felt that this is just psychologists inventing conditions to explain antisocial behaviour and make excuses for it. Why not just tell the simple truth that we have a generation of spoiled little brats that haven't been bought up properly. What doesn't help also is the retail industry, that encourages it with £100 designer trainers and the latest must have electronic gadgets. Seems there are now lots of flavors in addition to age ranges. ADHD-PI Must be big business. I did not want to imply that the condition started as an adult, which is what the media often does on this side of the pond when they use ADHD vs. ADD which they tend to use for kids. In any case we all know the cause is the boob tube.

+1 Edit: I'll add to that. Employers are also to blame. Got a rollocking yesterday for not answering my mobile. got back to depot early this morning, left the *wat a message: - 1: It is illegal to use a mobile while driving 2: no *wat gives me a rollocking for having my own personal phone switched off while working As I'm not back until Friday morning, wondering what his reply will be. If's its what I expect, I'm going on holiday in Bermuda at his expense! |

What we do need is to stop mobile phone use on public transport i.e. buses and trains, that is utterly antisocial, and it's quite easy with modern blocking technology. ADHD |

You are all forgetting it's a generational thing. Anyone in their teens automatically thinks that street cred and the latest iPhone are the most important things in the whole wide world. In their little blinkered world it is, and they know no other way of living or behaving. I have to continually stop and tell myself, will you stop saying "when I was your age ..." etc. It irritated me when I WAS their age, and I'm sure it irritates them as much now! I have said for a very long time that it doesn't take very much to rise above the average oik in the street, and sadly that is getting easier as each year rolls by. I realised I was turning into my father a long time ago! |

When was the last time you sat at the dining table with all family members for a good meal & chat afterwards? Exclude Christmas or any other festival! Twice a week we sit to eat together. And I make them turn them off before we sit. Must not conflict resolve by suggesting that someone should go sit on an ice pick... |
