As always, SETI@home and Arecibo are never mentioned. We do not exist. Tullio |

Yes, but even simple volunteers need some motivation - don't they? ;) Here it's only the science, as the amount of credit you get doesn't reflect the amount of work you do. Grant Darwin NT |

The way I look at it, we're at the bleeding edge of high-performance distributed community computing. On top of that, saying that it's done on a shoestring is an insult to shoestrings. You have to take a step back and remember that what we're doing is pretty unbelievable and that we're lucky it works at all. That we have people developing massively parallel digital signal processing applications *for free* is a gift that we should not forget. It's ok to talk about how it works and get into the details and discuss passionately, but at the end of the day it's a privilege just to take part. |

As always, SETI@home and Arecibo are never mentioned. We do not exist. Tullio, in the article that Lionel linked, Arecibo is mentioned (paragraph 4): So would SETI experiments be welcome on the SKA, perhaps piggybacking at no extra cost on other astronomy experiments as SETI does on Arecibo? |

Yes, but even simple volunteers need some motivation - don't they? ;) My motivation is 1) science and would be 2) more information! In other words: If I get "payed" by credits I'd like to know why I get a certain amount of credits for my work. If this amount changes I'd like to know why! Maybe it's my fault, maybe it's not my fault. Just to say it in easy words: If my salary changes (up or down) I'll ask my boss why. If I get no answer it's time to start thinking! Consequences may follow. |

As always, SETI@home and Arecibo are never mentioned. We do not exist. Yes,true. As SETI does on Arecibo. But not as SETI@home does on Arecibo. This what I meant by "we do not exist". Tullio |

Yes, but even simple volunteers need some motivation - don't they? ;) You're right Rolf ! I had already spoken about it in this thread. Our volunteer's salary are the credits affected for every WU. We're all here to advance the Science. But if we're all very attached to the credits, it's that they allow to quantify our participation in the development of the SETI@home project. Many members of my team are also very attached to their credits and it's very normal when some invest more than 1.000€ in the purchase of high-technology equipment for always better crunching for the project... Who could blame anybody for being attached to the credits ? |

Well since SETI V7 dumped us all down things have been steadily improving as my Q6600 rig went from a RAC of 50K down to 26K is almost back up to 30K now (up nearly 2K in the last 30 days). ;-) So if things keep at that pace then we should be fine again in about 10 months time. :-) Yesterday I finally replaced the faulty memory kit in my 2500K so it should start to pick itself up now seeing as it's firing on all cylinders again (running single channel for a few weeks was a pain). Cheers. |

No credits and I'm taking my computers and going home. Oh, I am home; OK my computers will be used for email and watching what the Interweb was made for. Despite what the FAQ says there are no wasted CPU cycles with Intel's speed step technology. |

NO matter the value of X, all i ask for is: (on the same host) 1 hour of AP Crunching = X Credits 1 hour of MB Crunching = X Credits Simple like that, as was before V7. That could solve all the creditnew issues. Not to much to ask for... |

NO matter the value of X, all i ask for is: (on the same host) What you are referring to is that v7 and AP should be fairly well bench marked against each other...in this manner, it removes the need for playing the WU game. It is just a pity that some do not seem to see the logic of what you are saying and would rather throw negative comments back than actually do something to try and fix the problem... |

NO matter the value of X, all i ask for is: (on the same host) Seems like finaly someone understant what i ask for, i never ask for more credit, just to make a balance with the credit "paid" by the two types of WU. So we could realy measure and compare with others the real production of our hosts. We humans are naturaly competitives, but that is not wrong, with no competition we all be doomed to stagnation. |

All AP tapes done, so for the next days only MB WU will be aaiable, that is the fact. Due the creditnew mess everyone DL all the AP WU and leave the MB WU behind. That´s prove, credit is important... |
