Message 1417282 - Posted: 18 Sep 2013, 17:31:06 UTC

I see that there is now going to be free school meals for all kids up to age 7, regardless of their parents income. All well and good, but what cuts will have to be made elsewhere to pay for it?

More to the point, from this it's deemed to appear that after the age of 7 years
it's then OK for the school children to go back to having, crisps, chocolate bars
and biscuits for their mid-day meals again. If good quality nourishment is
considered to be a harbinger to improved pupil school performance then free school
meals should be extended to include all school ages. Is not the onus on the
parents to see that "their" children are feed properly, even whilst at school.
Well, they are paid to, they do receive child allowance. Where's the money for
this going to come from?...mansion tax, land tax, tax - tax - tax. Tax, the one
thing we all know when over levied drains an economy of a much needed source of
revenue that's vital for investment within the UK. Spending tax money on new
social endeavours, at times like these at the moment, is crass stupidity to say
the least. £600 million of vote buying comes to mind here...has no one learnt
from the folly of the previous government on this course of action and where it
eventually leads us? This free school meals policy has every chance of getting
out of hand in years to come. Gets extended to include 8 years olds, then 9's,
10's 11's etc, to a point where eventually through cost something somewhere has
to get chopped....state pensions comes to mind as one option. Free school meals
to day could eventually be at the cost of their parents state pension in years
to come, well, part of it anyway.

Nick Clegg has urged the British people to put the Liberal Democrats back in government in 2015 to curb the excesses of the Tories or Labour.

Yesterday I watched the video of the welcome to Conference speech by MP & Junior Minister Jo Swinson. She was really impressive and did it without a falter and without notes. That girl is set to go places, I am quite sure.

I did suggest somewhere else that school meals in state schools should be free to all pupils and this could be financed by a cut in child benefit.

Well Winter, you would think so but unfortunately that act would not get this
party the desired electorate votes it's chasing after.

But they should follow the guidelines set up for the divorce courts etc. "Do what is best for the children"

But they should follow the guidelines set up for the divorce courts etc. "Do what is best for the children"

So the correct way to deal with this would be to reduce the child allowance
to compensate for the cost of the school meals. To this end then school meals
could be extended to cover all school ages especially since the Party claim
their action is driven by the fact that a nourishing mid-day meal aids learning.
But the Party have not gone this far, why?...don't know right now, so this
free school meals policy is looking quite dank...a publicity stunt with the
resultant tab being picked up by the tax payer.

No one can disagree with the reason behind this policy, a nourishing mid-day
school meal for children will aid their learning. So apply this across the
whole school age group and at the cost to the parents only.

We have the 30, 50, and 100 year disclosure rule for sensitive information, but each year more is made public under the Freedom of Information Act.

Yep, and a very nice rule it is for ministers and snivel serpents to hide under.....

Unreserved government apology - 25 years late

...how many more hidden under that rule?

Has he?

Cleggy told to ditch "social mobility"

"Lib Dem deputy leader Simon Hughes even said he had attempted to persuade Nick Clegg to stop talking about it.

"I have failed so far to persuade him to drop the words 'social mobility' from the government lexicon and to drop the words 'pupil premium' which again, nobody on the Old Kent Road has ever referred to."

They want to introduce " Positive discrimination"....Can someone tell the Party
that positive discrimination will not only just gain a few more votes, for the
Party, but also highly likely to over-promote a whole load of incompetent
nincompoops up in to the higher echelons of the Party where they could potentially
reap havoc.

He know something we don't?

Yes he does, and that is if we fall in to a depression and people are tipped out
on to the streets starving he will still sanction billions of pounds worth of
aid going to bent countries abroad.

Quite correct. and an astute observation as per usual. What he was saying there was actually "Vince, don't punch me, just agree on the Deficit Plan vote".

Very Asute seeing as Cleggy since becoming DPM has had his thumb in his mouth continuously with all those turnarounds.

Shame it wasn't stuck in the other large hole in his body as that's where it belongs.
