'The British aren't coming!': US media mock Cameron's failure to deliver on promise to back Obama in strikes against Syria

Hmm!! Obama knows he has to be careful here over this Syrian business because
currently the American public are against getting involved. If he does get
involved in this fracas and American lives are lost you can bet on which party
will be supplying the next President of the USA. Yup, he's going to be a
Republican.

'The British aren't coming!': US media mock Cameron's failure to deliver on promise to back Obama in strikes against Syria

A lovely comment from both a Brit and a Yank. Think it shows the majority view of the common people - Media & Politicians not common, just idiotic ...........(Fill in the missing word)

Dear Great Britain, as an American citizen I would like to apologize. Our leaders have ruined the friendship, if you will, that was supposed to mean something between our great nations. Nobody can blame you for staying out of a war because 90% of us don't want one either! This is a president who gave back a bust of Winston Churchill. A man 1000 times better a leader than Obama ever will be. Hopefully this can be mended over time. If not, it's been a hell of a century. - Mr. Nice Yank, Minnesota USA, 30/8/2013 20:23.......... Lovely comment, but no need to apologise, it's not the American people's fault that they are led by donkeys (just like we are)! We love America, this was never about sticking the finger up to the States, just staying out of another pointless war! Hope your lot end up staying out of it as well :).

Sirius, clearly we are all getting that much wiser as the years go on. The
American press can say what they like but it sure don't reflect those views of
the American public themselves. The Yanks aren't stupid, just like us there fed
up getting involve in other countries dirty business. If the American public
tell Obama, "You dare get us involved", and he listens hence steps back from the
abyss then all will be well. If he fails to heed the public's wishes then I
feel he and his party may well suffer repercussions over this in time.

Im glad that yank did apologize. He has the same sentiments I and a lot of other yanks have.
I still dont get where American security is at stake when a pissant dictator gasses his own people. Now if they gassed another countrys poeple I can see the need to stomp the hell out of said attacker.

And you are right that the politcal fallout will be immense. Both here at home and across the globe.
I think Russia has a payback in mind if we do attack.

Getting some good and interesting posts here. However let's try to keep matters on this thread to the UK. If you feel that any post you may consider contains too much on the Syrian issue, can you please post it on the "Straw" thread.

"What troubles the Prime Minister and those around him more, though, is the question of whether Britain has lost the appetite to be America's most reliable ally. The thought of America attacking Syria with French and not British support pains them."

So the pain being suffered by the majority of his citizens due to his constant turnabouts and hastily rushed through laws doesn't matter to him?

Some interesting stats regarding those that govern us.....

Syrian Vote

For 272
Tories 241
Lib Dem 31

Against 285
Tories 30
Lib Dem 11
Labour 223
Other 21

Absent 91

Tories 33
Lib Dem 14
Labour 35
Other 9

Just how many would have been absent if the vote was calling for an £10/20k increase in salary?

For once, an exceedlingly good report from the Waily Fail (mind you, look who wrote it)

I think most probably that since this Syrian business is a big topic of debate,
both sides of the pond, then expanding it to include the USA is fair dinkum.
But I must say though," This thread is really turning out to be very good", Sirius.

Great article. Is that the Max Hastings who writes military history?

Please disreagard what our newspapers and politcians say. I for one applaude that your MP's said no.
The only hard feelings that I see are the blowhards in Washington DC. who want this attack.

As for the remark by Kerry that France is our oldest allie. I stick my middle finger up to that.
Im no Francophobe but France has pissed on America every chance it can. Now they want to be our best friend? I wonder whats in it for them.

Be proud you stood up and said NO. I wish more politicians would do that here in the states!

Yes it is also don't forget he was covering the Falklands war. The man knows what he's talking about. Shame the same can't be said for our "muppets" in power.

Edit: I'm going to surpise everyone on my threads. I'm sorry to see the No vote. However it was correct in that modern nations should not be reacting blindly to events like Syria without confirmation. Once that is confirmed, then sod politicians, all the International Community go in to make our point...

Chemical weaponary is a no-no. Do it again & we won't all come in, just send drones with nukes!

I am not really surprised, I thought that was probably your view, which I alluded to in another thread, but you sidestepped it there.

In which case, what is the point of electing people to represent you, if you can disregard them when it suits you? Is that Democracy?

"A number of Conservative backbenchers have raised concerns about military intervention in Syria - but it is understood Tory MPs will be told to support the measures when they vote on Thursday."

Is that democracy?

Tradition or not, telling your colleagues how to vote? That's democracy?

Makes one wonder why you posted that if you believe in the above tradition.

Maybe US politics could do with some strong UK style whips
rather than the wimps employed over there.
