+1

It's not down to whether or not it's day or night, rape is rape. Not only does it affect the woman for a considerable time, it affects others as well. I won't go into to much detail as it still causes pain after 40 years.

1973 I was dating a stunning girl who I met at a company dance (I worked with her parents). On way home one evening called into to see them & found police in attendance, she was raped. Every evening after that I called but she refused to see me until 5 months later, her parents resigned & relocated. Never saw that lovely girl again.

Move forward 9 years. Another beautiful girl & both of us were looking forward to getting married. She was raped & this one still causes me grief on a regular basis.

Move forward another year, 1 sister was raped.

I suggest Chris that instead of looking to your favourite "reliable" websites, check out domestic violence, rape & other crimes against women. It's on the increase with the worst being sex gangs grooming young girls, the Oxford & Blackburn cases prime examples.

So lay off the political bullshit.

Nancy boy up to his tricks again. Can't that idiot learn to keep his mouth shut?

Another despicable failure of the authorities

"Nick Clegg said that the ‘vile, evil murder’ should be ‘on all of our consciences’"

WHY? Because we're supposed to be caring human beings? What could we have done to prevent it?

Time for political correctness, BHL's, & ECHR to disappear

What else is he left to say. This is just a deflection move statement since the
Government has failed to get on top of this problem and they know it.

It's all about being sensible Rob and taking a reasonable across the board attitude. Something that most in Seti politics cannot do. If they are not out of their heads through drink, they are right or left wing extremists and subversives, or just plain one sandwich short of a picnic. Just tick the appropriate box.

Yep & they're all in authority.........

Oh dear

They'll take anybody these days!

Gawd help us!

I see the "bedroom tax" is being exposed for what it really is, a tax on those that cannot afford to pay taxes.

‘Big lie’ behind the bedroom tax: Families trapped with nowhere to move face penalty for having spare room
96% of benefit claimants who will be penalised cannot be rehoused

For the 38 councils that provided full data, 99,079 families are expected to be affected by the bedroom tax, but only 3,803 one and two-bedroom social housing properties are available – just 3.8 per cent of the homes required to rehouse the families who are hit.

A spokesman for the Department for Work and Pensions said: “This ignores the fact that people may move to housing in the private sector and not all tenants will have to downsize because they could make up any shortfall through getting a job or increasing their working hours. These reforms will save the taxpayer £1bn over the next two years and help to ensure a better use of our housing stock when in England alone there are nearly two million households on the social housing waiting list, and over a quarter of a million tenants are living in overcrowded homes.”

While the DWP argues that social housing tenants who want to downsize could instead spend their housing benefit on private accommodation, there is already a major shortage of small, cheap private accommodation.

It would also defeat the cost-cutting aim of the whole policy, since the housing benefit payable for a private one-bedroom place is often more than for a two-bedroom council house
. Saving enough for the deposit needed for private housing is a further issue – and a near-impossibility for those already struggling with rent arrears because of the bedroom tax.

With reference to the underlined text in my last. I've since checked with family contacts in the SE, they have 4 properties in a town with mainline connection to London, journey times 1 hour or less, depending on London Station. The properties are 2 * one bed flats (apartments), a two bed terraced house and a two bed flat, all furnished and within walking distance of station. One of the one bed flats was recently let to a city centre refugee for £1850/month apparently he thinks it is a bargain.

The max housing benefit for a four bed house is £400/week. Rents for council properties are well below this in most places.

Zero hours contracts

Looks like we're back to the old days when this method was used at one time to
employ dock workers. Also was very prevalent during the depression years of the
30's for many companies employed this method to engage workers.

They are useful for leisure industries like Theme Parks where they employ casual staff when needed. Saves having to give out numerous short term contracts all the time, and suits part time workers and students. It's not so good if you need a constant wage week in week out, and it isn't as regulated as it should be.

The problem I have with this is that with a little bit a intelligent thinking and study of the local situation then most good managers can probably tell you how many people are needed to be at work at any one time.

In my time in the Army the good catering managers, Warrant Officers, could usually predict with 99% accuracy how many people would turn up for each meal every day.

He would know total numbers, that is supplied by unit HQ daily.
Weather
What each sub-unit, company, squadron, troop etc., was doing by reading their daily orders published at the end of previous working day.
Day of the month, how much money in a squaddies pocket will dictate where he eats, full pocket - eat and drink in NAAFI, half full - eat in cookhouse + pint in NAAFI, empty pocket - eat in cookhouse only.
What local entertainment is on.
He would also have been briefed on any "out of the ordinary" events, like fire practices, regimental call outs etc.

Don't see why managers cannot apply similar knowledge to their businesses. I can see that at my local market, the successful stall holders seem to know when to attend, what goods to supply and how many staff are required with different weather conditions on different days of the week and also take into account other local events.

Most leisure activities such as Theme Parks, are run on very tight margins, there is a recession remember, the first thing people do in hard times is to cut back on leisure spending. So there is your theme park fully staffed, then due to the vagaries of the English weather, you get a week of rain, visitors and income is markedly less. You only needed half the staff to manage the place, yet you had to pay them all anyway. Much better to have had them on a "call off" contract when you only paid them when you needed them.

The armed forces situation is entirely different, you have a fixed number of personnel day in and day out. OK, they have the option on how much to spend of their money, but they have to eat come what may, therefore you have a guaranteed minimum income. Catering staff not needed can be re-deployed elsewhere. It's a closeted environment compared to civvy street.

The weather does not change unexpected immediately, the changes may come sooner or later than originally forecasted. The changes in the populations income is gradual, very unusual for it not to be. Other events that may draw away business are advertised.

There is a minimum staff required each day, which can be handled by core full time and some of the part time staff. With reasonable planning taking in all the known factor I don't see why the hours for the part time staff cannot be forecasted in advance from the minimum to the max.

Personally I think it is a system brought about by greed of the owners, who also provide very little management training.

And don't forget it is only a system that can work when employment figures are low. When employment figures are high they would have to meet the workers requirements, within limits, or not have enough staff. Plus have good managers to control the limited staff they have.

Brilliant coalition

I saw that about repairing things and thought "how stupid is that?"

Do we want people repairing gas and electrical appliances?
Most gadgets would cost more to repair than replace.
Then today I looked at the price list in a window advertising clothes repairs and alterations. Zip replacement £12, choice of adult jeans on a market stall at £10.

It's got nothing to do with South London as you've stated, it's the same throughout the country. As for the 20 - 50 range, sorry, have come across many in the 50 - 70 range with the most abysmal attitude that makes one wonder.....

Had a delivery recently to a couple with the guy having a few years before he retires but his wife had just retired. God, we thought that we were still in the Victorian age. Tradesmen round the back please & her attitude when we refused to rearrange her home for her was...I'll let you guess, but being ex-army I can swear like a trooper, but her language even had me look up.

How can the young respect their elders when those very same elders act like pigs at feeding time?
