There is a lot of negativity on this board at present, mostly about credits since the role out of v7, so this thread is only for positive comments about SETI. All positive comments welcome, here are two to kick things off.

1. No one is complaining about limits anymore, with longer WUs and APs for Nvidea GPUs as well as lots of AP WUs, 100 WU go much further than they used too.

2. My pendings are much higher than they used to be (used to be 1:1 pending / valid at any time, now 2:1 pending / valid). Thus whilst my RAC may have dropped temporarily, it will come back eventually once the slower wingmen catch up.

1) Transition to V7 was painless.

2) V7 makes more science at a relatively small additional computational cost.

3) Many more people are roughly using what used to be optimised applications, which were used by only a minority, increasing the global SETI throughput.

My hosts haven't had to wait around much uploading, downloading, or even getting the scheduler to talk to them lately.

That's MAJOR forward progress in my book! :-)

I agree, the move to COLO has beeen a massive success.

Another positive is all the great people who read these boards and help people like me solve their SETI related problems, not to menion those who write the optimised apps in the first place.

The AP Nvidea GPU app looks like its going to be great. having gor it optimised (with help), it looks like my GTX460 will do 2 APs at a time in around an hour each. If that holds up, that could give me a higher RAC than I previously had on all my PCs before MB v7 came out and more than compensate for any drop in credit (temporary or not) due to MB v7

It's great that they were able to add auto-correlation to the list of analysis being done on the data we have.

More analysis on more dependably available work with enough work on-board to have something to crunch during maintenance outages.

Good stuff all around.

This:)

Plus the fact that Green Bank WUs are next on Seti's to-do-list.

Plus the fact that the b****ing hasn't been that bad if we're to be honest. Had you asked me beforehand what would happen if credits were halved I would have predicted an unprecedented s***storm and an unending number of threads/people threatening mass exodus. But no. Not really.

Sometimes it's wonderful to be proven wrong:)

So yeah... like tbret said, good stuff all 'round.

I had forgotten all about green bank data, so definitely good to know that is the next on the to do list.

I appreciate the AMD GPU applications for MB v7 and AP v6 being ported to Linux.

1: since the relocation of the servers: very smooth connections & fast up/downloads
2: easy & smooth transition from v6 => V7 (reading forums helps a lot!!!)
3: new & easy lunatics installer (= for my personal needs complete = MB/AP for CPU & GPU ATI/NVIDIA)
4: AP on GPU (nvidia) stock or easily installable through the lunatics installer = yihaaaaaaa!
5: plenty of work for my rigs (I have none überstuffed with multiple GPUs :) ) So current limits pose no problem: buffers do not run totally dry during maintenance of the project.
6: RAC dropped since the transition? So what? Longer runtimes, the project needs to stabilize, needs to be tweaked, VLAR on NVIDIA GPUs needs to get fixed, etc. We're all in the same boat.... RAC falls & will rise again, no big deal & patience is a virtue. We're hunting ET, not RAC!

=> To all scientists & programmers involved: THANK YOU for breathing new life in the project, for giving us newer & better tools to hunt for ET. It makes us feel donations are being used the right way.

Kind regard.
