When it is time for the next update, can you put in an option to turn off the graphics, or at least choose how long it waits before showing up as a screen saver? It always pops up when I am reading something! This is a user-controlled setting. I don't believe this is something set by the installer. |

The screen saver is a Windows thing. In your W7 machine, rt click on the desk top, lt click on personalize, the lower left corner is the screen saver icon, lt click on it and set to never. Btw, the screen saver uses a lot of computing power so with it disabled you produce more work per day. |

There are a few reports of this - take a look in "Number Crunching" as there are a couple of threads there already. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

since the new v7 has began i have not been able to use my ATI/GPU to work on AP WU. Have i done so0mething wrong or is this a common problem. When your HD4350/4550 was crunching AP successfully it was on CAL driver 1.4.1734 and APP runtime 937.2 (an SDK 2.7 driver and runtime), now it is all the way down on CAL driver 1.4.1385 and APP runtime unknown (an SDK 2.4 driver), try updating your drivers back to a more recent driver. So the newbies total credit will be continually crushed by the "oldies" total credit because theirs was accrued by a more generous method than that of the current format. Thus, advancement within the ranks of we newbies, amongst the oldies will take longer and be more cumbersome. Thanks for the heads up. Well, but as newbies, we have the opportunity to buy and use much faster HW than the oldies had available. I think, this will compensate for the lower credit ratio per WU. We are doing it much, much faster ... |

Well, but as newbies, we have the opportunity to buy and use much faster HW than the oldies had available. I think, this will compensate for the lower credit ratio per WU. But in the same time, also oldies have the opportunity to buy and use the same new hardware! Not sure but there is a certain risk they will do. So i'm not sure newbies will advance faster than oldies! Anyway, happy crunching! |

So, I take it that all future contributions by the folks running v5 and v6 under OS/2 are null. Is this correct? Quite a number of machines fall under this exclusion, including some of mine. Sic semper mortem tyrannis. Marc Lewis Sursum Corda! |

That is correct. The binaries for that platform will need to be re-compiled with the new open-source v7 code. |

OS/2 is still around? |

OS/2 is still around? Actually, there's a semi-current version of it running around as eComStation. Wiki entry here. But I wouldn't be too surprised if some older machines are still running OS/2 Warp 4. Also, I know that many ATM and other types of kiosks still run OS/2 sessions as an alternative to Windows to avoid malware. I doubt any of these kiosks crunch for SETI@home, but OS/2 is still out there (though from what I've seen, Windows Embedded is making inroads to replacing those systems in many markets). |

I remember showing a UNIX Honeywell-Bull system in Milano in 1989 to a visitor who wore a typical IBM uniform. After I had finished he asked me: how do you hope to sell this thing now that there is OS/2? I looked straight in his eyes and said: OS/2 is stillborn. He gasped but could not say I am an IBM engineer, not having said it before. Tullio |

Well, in 1989 IBM and Microsoft hadn't forked on their OS/2 project. So technically speaking, since the entire Windows NT family (for those reading that don't know, Windows Vista/7/8 are all NT based OSes with roots back to OS/2) is a fork from the OS/2 project, I'd say that the fundamentals of OS/2 have proven very popular. ;-) |

On theregister.co.uk there is a post on Windows NT 3.1 which describes all this. Tullio |

I have two identical computers both running the same GPU and the same version driver, AMD ATI Radeon HD 5800 series (Cypress) (1024MB) driver: 1.4.1741 OpenCL: 1.02. Both of them ran astropulse work units with their GPU's. I now notice that one receives work units, v7.03, (ID: 7018660) that run on its GPU; the other does not(ID: 6936520). The one that does not get v7.03 units has run out of GPU work. Is there a reason for one to not receive GPU work? The computer, ID: 7018660, has lots of GPU work units. Greg |

The best place to get this answered would be in the number crunching forum. But I would make sure my settings on the account settings page for the one not getting wu matched the one that does. |

I've been concerned on SETI@HOME for over 10 years, then added project of Radio Active@Home.In odere to cooperate whatt kind of structures of Universe and Searching Extraterrestrial Intelligence. Dr.Segan's dream of extraterrestials I also interested too. I also interersted to constructions of Universe whaat kind of materials do exist in the Galaxy or what is the Dark Matter and Dark Energy, I would like to know. Then want some report about Radio Activity around Universe. In Tokyo University, theres an institution Mathematical Phisics, reserchers at there get many results about construction of Universe and what made Basic construction of Universe. I'd like to know much more about how the Universe had constructed. Still I have many questions about Universe is. |

I've been a BIONIC participant for a year or so, signing up with SETI@HOME in that time. I was most recently running two projects, SETI and EINSTEIN, on my Windows7 machine with an ATI 5750 card. Unfortunately, the latest update has forced me to delete this project from my list. After the last update, SETI took over BIONIC and my video card. Soon after the update, the program loaded around 50 jobs, not really a problem. The real problem was the project began using 100% of my video card resources. Frequently, my bowser, curser, video, etc would become intermittent or stop for a time. These corresponded to the 100% usage on my GPU meter. The issue would immediately stop when I paused or quit BIONIC. After looking for a setting to stop this behavior and several weeks of frustration, SETI finally got the blade. All the jobs and the project were deleted, started running EINSTEIN exclusively. So, posting my experience. Wondering if this is a common problem. Willing to come back if it can be fixed. |
