I fear this is going to get lost in this thread right now. I'm surprised our friends over the pond haven't make a big big stink of USA spooks having access to their private records, given all the lack of privacy and lack of access controls, we Yanks have. Perhaps the magnitude of this data sharing and just what it means hasn't sunk in just yet. |

not only knows everything you do, but also everything you think, that people fear the recording of man by man.In the Comfort Of My Mom's Basement, all alone, I can Scream Out to GOD: You GOD are a MO FOin', Piece of Shat, Lower than Pond Scum Ginger. And GOD will Do Nothing. All Is Calm. WE condition children to be afraid of Santa. He's making a list, Checking it twice; Gonna find out who's naughty or nice. He sees you when you're sleeping He knows when you're awake He knows if you've been bad or good So be good for goodness sake. All for the sake of Nice Presents. In a Proactive Democracy the government is Santa Claus to those of voting age. The NSA is in charge of making the list. So be good for goodness sake. LOL |

On June 10 1944 the church where I used to attend Mass was hit bu a USAF bomb and everybody was killed. The Americans won't bomb us, this was a wrong idea in the minds of many Trieste citizen. My family had escaped in Friuli and we found ourselves in the middle of a partisan/Fascist war, with partisans divided between Italian partisans and Yugoslav partisans. Then the German SS came up and burned the villages, so we returned to Trieste and I found my church destroyed. But I don't blame America, it was just a war. Tullio |

agreed, the bombings were intended to hit Nazi's not civilians. A good part of the time the troops weren't anywhere near the bombing sites. I can't imagine a village being bombed to quell the populace, especially in Italy. I can only assume the tactic was intended to keep the Nazis from having any place for shelter. Makes me think of Syria and Lybia now. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Read the book "Disturbing the universe" by physicist Freeman J.Dyson who took part as a civilian scientist in the bombing campaign of the Royal Air Force, which bombed by night with incendiary bombs. At least the USAF bombed by daylight and tried to hit selected targets and not the population, although this was hit too. Tullio |

I have a different opinion. The idea of bombing cities in order to break the morale of the troops at the front was put forward by an Italian general, Giulio,Dohuet, and widely accepted. I agree not to discuss any more the events of WWII. I shall only quote a French pilot: Je combattrai pour l'Homme. Contre ses ennemis. Mais aussi contre moi meme (A.de Saint Exupery, "Pilote de guerre"). Tullio |

The United States is a land of free speech. Nowhere is speech freer - not even here where we sedulously cultivate it even in its most repulsive form. And now this ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23064355 US bloggers banned from entering UK |

... And now this ... Note the: Two prominent US bloggers have been banned from entering the UK, the Home Office has said. Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer co-founded anti-Muslim group Stop Islamization of America. They were due to speak at an English Defence League march in Woolwich, where Drummer Lee Rigby was killed. A government spokesman said individuals whose presence "is not conducive to the public good" could be excluded by the home secretary. He added: "We condemn all those whose behaviours and views run counter to our shared values and will not stand for extremism in any form." ... Understandably, their presence is pretty much guaranteed to cause a riot and quite possibly a few deaths. To give an American equivalent: Would you expect Obama to condone a 'shindig' by the Ku Klux Klan burning an effigy on the Whitehouse door?... There is freedom and then there is the freedom of common decency and good sense. All within reason in our only world... To give an American equivalent: Would you expect Obama to condone a 'shindig' by the Ku Klux Klan burning an effigy on the Whitehouse door?... No, the Whitehouse is his personal residence, however in the park across the street, yes, although the fire marshal might get upset about actually lighting it on fire. And before you call me nuts, they let the Nazi's march in Skokie IL There is freedom and then there is freedom to allow others to express thoughts we find abhorrent. |

Only 'millions'? Try EVERYTHING sucked up and chewed over for at least three days... And that's only what might have been admitted to... GCHQ taps ALL transatlantic network traffic British spy agency GCHQ taps and stores all transatlantic network traffic, totalling between 60 and 100 petabytes, for at least three days. ... ... Two further 'minor details'... Report: Skype set up Project Chess to enable official snooping For the last five years, Skype has been running an internal team called Project Chess to investigate methods to allow law enforcement to listen in on users' phone calls, sources have told The New York Times. Project Chess was set up after the company (then owned by eBay) started having discussions with the government over monitoring communications. ... ... "This is where we are with all the tech companies right now; we can't trust their denials, just as we can't trust the NSA – or the FBI – when it denies programs, capabilities, or practices." Using encryption? That means the US spooks have you on file Anyone who encrypts their emails or uses secure instant message services runs the risk of having their communications stored by the US National Security Agency... ... In practice, this means that using encrypted messages for security purposes may have the ironic effect of drawing the secret message to the attention of spies. This data should really be destroyed within five years, unless they are "communications that are enciphered or reasonably believed to contain secret meaning, and sufficient duration may consist of any period of time during which encrypted material is subject to, or of use in, cryptanalysis". ... Hope none here is anything out of the very boring 'ordinary'... And all your snail-mail: Going lo-tech to avoid NSA snooping? Unlucky - they read snailmail too ... "Court challenges to mail covers have generally failed because judges have ruled that there is no reasonable expectation of privacy for information contained on the outside of a letter," the NYT reports. "Officials in both the Bush and Obama administrations, in fact, have used the mail-cover court rulings to justify the NSA's surveillance programs, saying the electronic monitoring amounts to the same thing as a mail cover. ... By that same argument, noone should ever expect to get prosecuted or officially persecuted for anything looked at over the internet... You are after all only looking at whatever data some remote server hands over to you. There is no physical opening of anything... For this game, add CCTV and: All just like the TV series "Big Brother" with the politicians playing the game to see how the rats run to amuse them?... Not only the spooks? Run for your (private) lives! Facebook's creepy Graph Search is upon us ... everyone who uses the US English website version of Facebook would be able to access Graph Search, which allows people to look up information about friends of friends. The end goal is ultimately to find out what punters are really interested in, lob well-placed adverts at them... ... It commands a global userbase database containing private and public details about the lives of 1.1 billion people. Graph Search works by knitting together different parts of the network that have been publicly shared by individuals to help users build up creepy profiles about others on the site. ... ... concerns have been raised about the function. In February, Facebook tried to allay fears about perverts using Graph Search to prey on teenagers on the network, saying that controls would be in place to protect young people. ... What of Google and the plethora of other web advertisers?... All a question of 'trust' and exploitation? IT is what we make it... Facebook is for garrulous teenagers, and Twitter is for showbiz luvvies. And for the spreading of political messages and advertising. Anyone who fails to utilize them for such is destined to failure. |
