Edit: update on the machete idiot - we've been informed by the housing association who were in contact with the police....

..it was a rolled up newspaper :)

Has there been an arrest for the person who falsely reported a machete to the police?

Don't know, but will find out on Friday when the Anti Social Behaviour team visits us.

+1 That's something which I detest. Many out there call them "pigs" & spit on them, yet they're the 1st buggers to call them for assistance in an emergency.

Getting back to Data collection, this is a classic case of why tight oversight is needed, not only to ensure that only authorised personnel have access but also that when valid data is reported, it's acted upon.

In my case, they've had the data for over 6 months from myself & others but it takes something like this to get them to act......

...that's unacceptable! & another point, as no action has been taken until this incident, what was the point of having the data?

Like the Tsarnaev brothers. Or the idiot in Santa Monica who they picked up some years ago for bombs and let go to shoot up the place.

Unfortunately they are trying for "Person of Interest" but data mining is still in its infancy.

At least some awareness is being raised even if already subverted by Marketing:

Thanks, NSA: Amazon sales of Orwell's 1984 rise 9,500%

Citizens of Oceania bone up on the new reality...

... there's been an unusual reaction to the current NSA spying scandal: sales of George Orwell's classic dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four are up 9,538 per cent...

And for refreshing comparison to today's events:

#Facebook: Now all your hashtags ARE BELONG TO US, Twitter

Facebook is adding hashtags to its service, in a move to channel discussions...

... The feature encourages users of the site to open up their conversations with people who aren't necessarily their "friends" on Facebook - no doubt to juice up more ad revenue...

Pre-election phishing spike blasts Iranian Gmail accounts

Google has spotted a massive spike in what it believes to be politically-motivated phishing attacks originating from Iran and targeting tens of thousands of web users ahead of Friday’s presidential elections. ...

it's turtles, all the way down ...

Facebook stores everything, Google indexed everything, the NSA has a copy of everything, the Swede's also want a copy of everything, the Chinese will produce a cheaper copy of everything, the govt denies everything, big content wants to own everything and the rest of us want everything for nothing ...

And no comment?

And is Avaaz able to avert another USA persecution?

Avaaz: Stand with Edward Snowden

This 29 year-old analyst just gave up his whole life -- his girlfriend, his job, and his home -- to blow the whistle on the US government's shocking PRISM program...

... When Bradley Manning passed this kind of data to Wikileaks, the US threw him naked into solitary confinement in conditions that the UN called "cruel, inhumane and degrading".

The authorities and press are deciding right now how to handle this scandal. If millions of us stand with Edward in the next 48 hours, it will send a powerful statement that he should be treated like the brave whistleblower that he is, and it should be PRISM, and not Edward, that the US cracks down on.

Check out the Avaaz webpage: Stand with Edward Snowden

Also note that 'all' it took to inflame into the French Revolution were the fabricated words of sarcasm published of supposedly having the populace eat cake (rather than starve in poverty).

All on our only lone planet,
Martin

... You do realise of course that every time you press a button at a pelican crossing, it records your fingerprint for a national database.

Which is then matched against the facial recognition for you from the CCTV staring at you.

That is then filched by whichever marketing company has bribed the equipment operators so that you have a personalized-marketing bundle waiting for you at home ready to enhance your experience across the road.

A local scammer has also picked up on the Marketing to beat you to your home and to have made a precisely timed getaway...

Not so far fetched?

We have the technology.

Yes. When is your next appointment with the Analyst?

Can someone give his analyst access to PRISM so he can asses how his treatments are working?

And so, jumping on the Orwellian band-wagon:

Snowden leaks caused US 'significant harm' - Mueller

The disclosure last week of a pair of top secret surveillance programmes has caused the US "significant harm", the head of the FBI has said.

Robert Mueller also told Congress the US would hunt down [persecute?] and prosecute leaker Edward Snowden. ...

We want to put a KILL SWITCH into your PHONE, say Feds

US law enforcement is calling for a mandatory kill switch on all mobiles, enabling the shut down of [only] stolen[?] phones...

Japan proposes NSA-style agency and new snooping laws

In a masterpiece of timing, the Japanese government is considering a new NSA-style agency to monitor internet communications in the country...

UK: Senior politicians unite to issue call for data bill

Senior politicians from across the political divide have united to call for UK security services to be given greater internet monitoring powers. ...

... The Communications Data Bill would have given police and security services access, without a warrant, to details of all online communication in the UK - such as the time, duration, originator and recipient, and the location of the device from which it was made.

It would also give access to some details of Britons' web browsing history and details of messages sent on social media. ...

EU signs off on eCall emergency-phone-in-every-car plan

The European Union's plan to insist every new car on the road by 2015 includes a mobile device that phones home after a crash is set to become reality...

... an on-board device that combines a GPS and mobile communications device will contact Europe's '112' emergency services number...

... “It is also expected that the eCall technology platform capabilities (i.e., positioning, processing and communication modules) could be exploited for additional services..."

Next is to arbitrarily make it a crime for anything you might do, say, think 'electronically', or for anything seen by CCTV or online?

One comment....one only.

I do consider Snowden to be a true American patriot.
He has changed the course of his life so that the truth might be told.
Government in secrecy is NOT what the founding fathers intended.

Not that they could have possibly foreseen the world of today.

But sooooooooooooo much goes on in our government under a contrived cloak of secrecy and under the excuse that it is only 'need to know'........I call bullshit.

The American public is starting to call bullshit. And it's about time they freaking woke up.

And none of this is new. Ask any Mason if the government persecutes people who talk where the government can't have an agent listen in.

JFK was alleged to have been a member of that 'secret society'.
And, like Snowdon, spilled the beans.

He was cut down in his prime....mostly because of that breach in 'their' security.

I have stated that fact before.
The 'secret society' speech.

There is ample evidence for this at this day and age.......please don't ask me to continue to post links for it.

The American public, as stupid as they were to re-elect.
Is growing aware of the duping they are taking at the hands of our government.
And the growing knowledge of misdeeds is still kindling.

Even CNN has to acknowledge it at times........

They really DID think they could get away with it all.

And he was going to crash their political world.
THAT speech.

That, my friends, is why they assassinated Kennedy.
They, being OUR own government and those who could not stand an upset of the status quo.

Had he lived and served, this world might indeed be a different place today.

I know many of you find my opinions about this specious.
I assure you, they are based not only on my initial emotional response when he was shot.
They are indeed based upon years since, as I have worked through many bits of information which are now available freely on the internet
And while those sources are often questionable, the weight of evidence is there.

LBJ and the CIA killed Kennedy.
No doubt at all in my mind.

The only thing still missing is signed confessions.

And I ask.......
How many of you have actually listened to his whole speech.

Once, nonce, more than once?
I have listened to it dozens of times.

And as every year goes by, it becomes a stronger and stronger statement, and deepens my feelings of loss for the man. As none who were responsible have ever been brought to justice.

And, their ilk are still in their illegally preserved power.
"Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once."

And so it is to the Printing Press...
to the recorder of man's deeds,
the keeper of his conscience,
the courier of his news....
that we look for strength & assistance,
confident that with your help man will be what he was born to be: Free & Independent

I see that there was no laughter, whistling, or clapping during the main dialogue of the speech.

Definitely the World Wide Web / Internet is a place where thing "soaks".

What happens if you should happen to pay a visit at the National Security Agency on the World Wide Web.

It is a possibility that you may be asked the question about whether you would like to have the Windows Media Player plugin (specific name there, possibly either Windows Media Essentials or Plugin for Google, or the like) installed.

When you are paying a visit to a web-server, you are in fact connected to this server by means of the "Internet" connection you already have and are using.

If you are using Yahoo on the web, you may be having an account there as well, giving you a chance to log in and perhaps access and read the e-mail that you may be having there which is associated with this account.

In fact, the e-mail protocol which goes by the name of X.500, as far as I know it, is even older than the World Wide Web itself. It was originally meant for use as being either a standalone client, or possibly for a Local Area Network.

Also do not forget that many Internet Service Providers are themselves based on Wide Area Networks and that they, when public, also are offering such services (log in, e-mail and so on).

Client software like Yahoo Messenger and Microsoft Messenger (formerly Windows Messenger - now being integrated or merged into Skype) may offer file uploads and downloads. The sometimes ugly market for specific uploads and downloads by means of certain FTP servers using specific software clients is another important possibility not to forget.

This is one of the ways the government (and possibly others) are spying on you in order to collect information of interest. The other ways of doing this we are not supposed to be knowing about.

In some cases it may not even be legal.

By the way, found the following web-link:
