NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily - revealed

The National Security Agency is currently collecting the telephone records of millions of US customers of Verizon, one of America's largest telecoms providers, under a top secret court order issued in April.

The order, a copy of which has been obtained by the Guardian, requires Verizon on an "ongoing, daily basis" to give the NSA information on all telephone calls in its systems, both within the US and between the US and other countries.


The law on which the order explicitly relies is the "business records" provision of the USA Patriot Act.

Pity but not surprised and it's not the only thing going on and being collected and remember whom brought the patriot act in and what party . Not that it lets the current gov of the hook it needs to be repealed , otherwise you are living in a police state . So much for your constitution ay

I think this is just the tip of the iceberg regarding surveillance of the general populace. One the one hand, I don't like it, but on the other if an individual isn't breaking the law why worry about whether your calls are being monitored. Drug dealers must really be dumb if they use cell phones to conduct business as well as anyone else conducting shady business. Once a call hits the air waves anyone with the right equipment can listen in on what you have to say.

Big brother is watching and listening and getting better at it all the time.

It seems like the FBI in conjunction with the NSA are conducting an investigation (more than likely terrorism based) & sought a court order to obtain records of those being investigated....

....if you check page 4 of that guardian article you'll find that "the court order expires at 5pm Eastern time on 19th July".

what people should be asking is why 7mil people what alerted them to ask for so many , where did they get the tip off from , when you figure that out then you will know just how big , big brother has become . There are people that come here and say things that will set the alarm bells off and they put themselves on the watch lists . The phone taps are just to get legal evidence to use in a court . They already know who , why and what but can't use there info in a court room as it has been collected illegally . Everything you type is scanned no matter what chat room you use , message board , social media , blog and text you send . Every phone call you make . There biggest problem is using the info they have in a court room . At that is what the court order for the phone taps is all about to get legal info they can actually use in a court room .
