220 marines die in Beruit. THe presidential response? back out of Beruit. COngressional investigation into the events and calls for resignations? none. Seems Conservatives, to maintain any relevance, must create controversy and fear where there is none. Smoke and mirrors nothing more. When you have no policy when you have no policy or governmental plans you plant fear and controversy over the least possible problem.

Should we look at the complete lack of leadership or ability to lead or believe there is something where there is nothing. I think that we should be more concerned that one party is leading the other is just against. Against everything that means leading or making a difference in the world. What happens when people get into positions of power yet do not desire to lead? you get Republican congresses that repeatedly 40+ times attempting to repeal the HCA plan instead of actually working on balancing the budget.

Well, I don't know about anyone else but I reckon that post from Guy was a damn good one.

Indeed, if you believe that the democrats are the cause of all ills in the US, and will go so far as to rewrite history to help support such beliefs. Ford was a Republican (8 of his 25 years in the House were spent as leader of the Republicans), not a Democrat, though in Guy's mind only a Democrat could lead an administration that was "one of the most damaging to the American people".

Kind of like some others here that wish to blame Labour for all ills in the UK.

Nixon was old school dealing with a Democrat majority in both the house and senate. His downfall was trying to figure out how to deal with them and stepped over the line. His administration was a failure because he got caught.

In a nutshell, this quote describes the authoritarian right to anyone unfamiliar with American politics.

Nixon rode into office on a wave of fear. Fear of enemies outside and inside. The Commies, the hippies, the progressives, all were to be feared because they would bring America to it's knees if a strong authoritarian father figure wasn't in the White House.
That same father figure broke the law by having the Democratic headquarters broken into by his henchmen.
Nixon then went on to lie to the American people about his crimes.

Guy thinks Nixon's only shortcoming was that he was caught. The fact that his boy Nixon was a criminal and should have been doing time in prison after his impeachment is glossed over as unimportant.
Nixon was a paranoid whackjob who convinced the citizens that were stirred into fear by the rightists to support his crazy visions of the world.

It would help if both sides of the pond adopted the Australian electoral system the pom's nearly did just recently but alass didn't . Our system is fairer and harder to manipulate . But you will also need to have compulsory voting which I will add was introduced by Liberal party in 1930's (Liberal=Republican) but some how in the states that will not happen as it will go against what they believe that government should not tell them what to do . (which is total crap as we all live by laws it just a matter of what laws we accept) AS for Guy well what can you say when it's all ways the republicans that cause problems even when they lose 2 terms in a row .
This is the reason your system is stuffed not being able to see the truth and changing history or what happened to justify your argument. You have to stop being a one party person always voting for the same party , change and vote them out if they are not doing there job , regardless of what party it is .
