I woke up this morning to a virus warning. I am using Viper. I believe this is part of the update to 7.0 but I want to be sure before I manually allow the change. The details say that C:\Windows\system32\SearchProtocolHost.exe is trying to modify D:\Users\RSPolo\Program Data\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\libfftw3f-3-3_upx.dll and it then says that libffrw3f-3-3_upx.dll is a known bad file.. and gives the MD5 as a96d81b6ee360b19b4b0d952acafad1f Please confirm that this is supposed to be happening and I will contact Viper with the info. Thanks in advance to whoever responds. |

Hi, I've been using Apple Macs since 1999, up to two Mac Pros now, 4 cores and 12 cores. Would really like to get the Nvidia and ATI GPUs working on SETI as well. Can't find much chat about this issue. Can I keep hoping that our minority group desires will come true one day soon ? |

Hi, my name is Alessandro and I'm from Brazil, as well as some users BOINC - seti@home from U.S. I'm also getting vÃrus mesagens from antivirus - Bitdefender (Gen: @ Trojan.Heur.GZ.6mZ biVbUrm) when I downloaded the following: setiathome_7.00_windows_intelx86.exe. How should I act in this case? It is a virus or a misinterpretation by antivirus - Bitdefender? Anyone else had problems with viruses using BOINC and / or Seti @ home? Thank you in advance for any comments. |

The best advice I can give on both virus warnings is to check the file with https://www.virustotal.com/en/ - for peace of mind, if nothing else. Both file names - libfftw3f-3-3_upx.dll and setiathome_7.00_windows_intelx86.exe - are correct and to be expected with this release. I have no idea why Viper should "say that libffrw3f-3-3_upx.dll is a known bad file" - especially because the file name is different from the one you gave the first time (it has an 'r', where the correct name has a 't'). But by all means do check with them. |

I have 3 computers and all are failing to download the new Seti home 7 software. One machine has McAfee and the other two has Norton's. I'm not getting a virus warning but something on all three machines are stopping the Seti home 7 from downloading. Firewall? Something for the Seti team to look into. |

I see that a lot of people are having problems with their anti-virus programs flagging certain parts/modules/files of the v7 release. May I suggest that it is good practice to disable both the firewall and the anti-virus program while installing any new software regardless of their source. It is also good practice to exclude the BOINC data directories from any anti-virus scanning. I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

I'm getting: "Can't resolve hostname" for three files: The Seti Graphics executable, the Windows main executable, and for the "libfftw3f-3-3_upx.dll" file. This is with Avast! AV both on and off. I don't run a firewall - not even the Windows Firewall, although Win XP keeps trying to turn it on... . Hello, from Albany, CA!... |

Hi, Only if your minority group will not only ask for that but will offer help in testing at least. Urs working on MacOS OpenCL port, but he needs hardware to test on. So far we have not too many MacOS-based testers. SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |

good practice to disable No, that is not good practice, it's even very bad advice. By disabling the firewall alone you practically invite that malware (rootkits, trojans, worms) installs itself on people's systems without their knowledge. Not everyone lives behind a hardware (NAT) firewall. Adding the BOINC Data directory to the exclusion zone of anti-virus and other anti-malware programs is good advice. But you still have to scan it now and then, just do so manually and with BOINC disabled. |

I've been using BOINC 7.0.65 for Mac for quite some time now. How can it be new? BOINC is the managing program. Seti is the project. The project releases applications of its own that run in the managing program. The version number has not much to do with the BOINC version number, it's a coincidence. Had there been more development, Seti could just as well be release v13.7 by now. Showing it's just a number. The other difference is that you have to download an install BOINC. The new Seti applications however are downloaded automatically. As long as you use the default setup, that is. |

Hi, You can stand by me. I'm allready a BOINC Alphatester, I can be a SETI Alphatester too. At this time, graphics cards in my Mac Pro (NVIDIA Quadro 4000 and ATI Radeon HD 5770) are crunching for WCG and Einstein. I can be contacted by PM. Cheers, Georges |

Yes, even 6.10.58 should download these files automatically (mine has... I run a mix of BOINC versions: 2 6.10.58's [one x32, one x64] a 6.10.60, and a 7.0.28...) after SETI central handled problem b) below...) If it doesn't, typically something either: a) is non-standard in your setup (for example: running a app_info.xml - when you'll get a notice in the messages tab [in 6.10.xx, that is - the separate messages log in 7.0.xx...] saying that app_info.xml doesn't know about V7. If you run a "optimized" version of the SETI app, you have an App_infor.xml!) or b) somebody screwed up at the project. . Hello, from Albany, CA!... |

BOINC v6.10.58 won't be able to process MultiBeam work on an ATI Card, even if the card is processing (and will continue to process) Astropulse work on that card. But all other types of work should download automatically, yes. (this may change later in the rollout, but that's the position for now) |

I'm using BOINC from Synaptic. It will be updated too? |

I'm using BOINC from Synaptic. This thread is not about an update to BOINC. This is the SETI@home project. Yes, your existing copy of BOINC should download the updated SETI files, just like everyone else's. |
