Concerning the difficulty of downloading the new app files.... My download failures say 'cannot resolve host name'... And it's NOT on my end. Could this be a DNS server somewhere other than Seti that is coughing up a furball under the barrage of download attempts? Just wondering out loud. Maybe somebody familiar with pinging could check it out. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

Just a reminder if you were running x41zc already and made changes to mbcuda.cfg e.g. to up priority, and if you went stock now, you need to edit the cfg files - they are supplied empty, there is a sample cfg you can copy/paste over. With the hints given by William (thanks!!) Ive modified the app_info's and I'm running v7 on GPUs... TBH, for me it was easiest than going to stock and upgrading to BOINC 7 reverting all the customizations that I've already made for APs and for the "Abandoned tasks - Ongoing issue" on the 3 SETI hosts... Now, I'm just waiting for the CPU apps (and the app_info hints)... Sadly, there is no APs available so some CPUs are taking a little nap... But as there is not so much WUs available and as long as the GPUs are working the CPUs can rest as much as they want... LOL ![]() |

Is it possible to download the new optimized apps somewhere without the installer, i.e. just a zip file with all needed files inside, like it was possible before? Some of us don't need installers, that do more than it's actually needed... What do the boinc startup messages say what cuda support you have on 301.42? I have 2 WUs that ended in a -9 result overflow, as other are nomal it may be a normal noisy WU or may be some setting that needs to be moded on my side... So, my question is can someone give me a hint on the adress at which I should look to download the WU to preserve them for future testing when the devs are not under the making intallers rush? ![]() |

Concerning the difficulty of downloading the new app files.... And more thoughts or info from Eric about the app download bottleneck? That's all that's really holding the kitties up here.... "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

Well first part of the operation went well and I got a pile of resent tasks (MB, destined for the GPUs on my dual GTX690 cruncher. Running in absolutly stock mode just now, so only one task per GPU. I'll wait for a bit before I try to sort out app_info.xml Then it decided to download "astropulse_6.04_windows__opencl_nvidia_100.exe" and that's stalled :-( I think I'll abandon downloading this app as I haven't got any APs to crunch just now.... Thank you for pointing out that information currently going out to 150k active users is incorrect. A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read. (Mark Twain) |

That sound about right ? ![]() |

Was able to contact Eric. He said he would turn off Coral Cache on one of the download servers. I have to run off to work right now, but please keep an eye on things and post here if it helps the app download situation. Keep in mind you may not hit that particular download server on every attempt, so I would still expect some download failures. But hopefully it will help. Meow! An estimate is just an estimate, run a few tasks for real and see what happens. But they will take longer than before, yes. That's the whole purpose of this rollout - to study the WUs in greater detail. And more work == more time. |

Everything seems to be good , Just REAL long crunching estimates ( compared to before) , what used to take ( CPU ) 1.5-2 hrs is now showing 4-5 hours , That sounds about right, the 7.00 app includes support for AVX, and now uses the latest FFTW 3.3 dll too, which also gives a further speedup compared to the old FFTW 3.1.1 dll, Hosts with AVX support will get a big speedup, my i7-2600K @4.7GHz does Stock 7.00 CPU Wu's in ~2 to 2½ Hrs, while my C2D T8100 @2.1GHz is doing them in 6 Hrs. This may sound daft but how do I know if I had the downloads for v7 and what client version do I need using the old 6.10.58 v7 Downloads will have the application name SETI@home v7 7.00, at present you are running Anonymous Platform with only v6 apps, so at present you are locked into only running v6 Wu's. For a CPU only host you don't need to a recent Boinc at all, you may sit tight on 6.10.58 Claggy |
