Probabily an "stupid" question, what i need to do to start crunching V7, i´m running CPU (Intel)/GPU x41zc apps. Anyone have a simple receipt? Thanks.

My recommendation (Subject to change after I try it) would be:
- Set No New tasks
- Wait until tasks all complete, upload & report
- delete app_info.xml from the project directory
- reset the project
- Allow New tasks

Extra notes: Probably need to check web options too in there somewhere [OK :)]. I'd try let the server decide amongst the compatible versions over some time with one instance per GPU (underutilised due to memory intensive Autocorrelations) then worry about multi instances after things settle in. You'd likely want either newer Recommended Boinc for that, or wait for installer for older Boinc clients to run with app_info (anonymous platform)

This works just fine as I got a load of stock CUDA42 work, I did have to make a few changes so I could run them full out instead of normal speed.

Just tried it myself- All of the files i need to process the work go into download backoff as soon as i try to download them.

EDIT- and unlike msatler, not a single bit is downloading no matter how many times i hit Retry.

Is it possible to download the new optimized apps somewhere without the installer, i.e. just a zip file with all needed files inside, like it was possible before? Some of us don't need installers, that do more than it's actually needed...

Sure... but only for GPU apps. CUDA on Jason's site, OpenCL on Lunatics. All as separate packs.

I need CPU apps, no CUDA or OpenCL capable GPUs here. I wonder why they stopped distributing the CPU apps as separate packs, that was so much better (for some of us).

I have just moved all my boxes to v7. Didn't take that long.

Curious thing is:
the first box is dual GTX580s and it received v7 cuda42 WUs, later a few 32s and then some 50s;
the second box is dual GTX295s and it received v7 cuda50 WUs, and later on 5 cuda22s;
the third box is dual GTX580s and it received v7 cuda 32 WUs.

All are running 1 WU per GPU at present.

However, is there a way to stop cuda50 WUs landing on the GTX295s. They appear to be taking an age to process.

But it's not complete. If you want the complete answer, do check https://casper.berkeley.edu/wiki/The_Polyphase_Filter_Bank_Technique

(I did on my phone, last night prior to going to bed. Especially the new math made me fall asleep very quickly.)

you right. we need to change that.
For separate packs it's quite trivial task.

b) wait paitently until the installer becomes available and hope there are enough v6 resends to keep you running, ignoring the protests of boinc about you not having a v7 app in your app_info.xml

Nothing to ignore.

5/30/2013 6:53:10 AM | SETI@home | Tasks for AMD/ATI GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them

And that's with v7 not checked in preferences.

I've set NNT and will run the CPU cache empty before removing app_info.xml and resetting the project.

I've got enough work on my plate without trying to put bare apps into the DL area, sorry.

I've followed Jason's instructions, and everything was working till it came time to download the new stock files.

The process that I went through was:
-Set to No New Tasks
-Abort all work units
-Update project
-Copy entire directory to backup directory on same disc under same parent folder
-Change name of app info file
-Exit Boinc with Stop Running Applications selected
-Relaunch Boinc
-Reset project (this will clear the project data directory of all files)
-Hit Update button (this will cause 4 .png files to download)
-Wait for the obligatory 3 minutes
-At the end of 3 minutes, v7 will start to download.

One thing to remember, make sure that v7 is selected in your seti at home preference. If not, v7 will not download (I stumbled in that area myself as I did not have v7 selected the first time I went through it).

I have not changed BOINC Manager, I am still running on 6.10.58

Good. That was not the case with the "enhanced" apps, at least not recently, only installer.

*scratches head*

I did
No New Tasks
Reported existing work
Removed app_info file
Exited & restarted BOINC (inc applications)
Reset project

Manager then contected the Scheduler itself, downloaded new work, queued up the new application files to process it.
Then times out each & every time it attempts to download the files.

Checked out my Hosts file- it only had the old problem download server blocked. Undid that, rebooted the system.
Still unable to download files.
*scratches head*

EDIT- also still running 6.10.58
Once this is all over i may even upgrade the Manager. With the servers in their new house the downloads aren't the problem they once were...

Wouldn't matter, what I do. There's no work being asked as I miss v7 in app_info.xml, so the cache will run empty anyway.

Before we switched to v7 we had a shorties storm, is that one still raging in v7?

Every now & then my other system (that i haven't fiddled with yet) gets a bunch of v6 work to do. Probably every 6-12th request.

Hadn't noticed anything before the outage.
Till i can get these executables to download no way of knowing myself- i doubt it as the splitters don't apear to be splitting much, and there's no ready-to-send buffer.

I'm running down my cache and will convert to v7 in a few hours (hope the download problem clears up.) Have a question about running stock while patiently waiting for the installer. Is r1316 still the stock app for Nvidia? Think I heard that will change, but I don't know the timing. If it is still r1316, is there a way to set command line switches (unroll, ffa_block, priority, etc.) without an app_info.xml file? I used app_info.xml for the switches when I ran r1316, and now use an ap_cmdline.txt file with r1761. I don't know if r1316 supports ap_cmdline.txt. I know that when I first changed to r1761 I did not include the parameters initially and had long run times until I provided them. Can I expect that with the current stock app and is there a way to avoid it?
