With the lack of available AP tasks I re-enabled downloading MB tasks and on some of my hosts I am getting errors for the MB tasks. They all have the same app_info.xml created using the Lunatics v0.40 installer. Any hints were to look for why things only die on some of the hosts? 107-38-11-BAY02 ![]() |

Sorry,I meant in the APP INFO , theare a couple of lines which read <file_name>AK_v8b2_win_x64_SSE41.exe</file_name> I think it should possibly be SSE 4.1 or something similar.( whatever matches the actual file name in his BOINC/SETI data file) I use SSE3 in my APP INFO. Hope that helps. :) john3760 ![]() |

Sorry,I meant in the APP INFO , theare a couple of lines which read The file name is correct for that SSE4.1 application, though with the computers hidden there's no way to tell that version was a usable choice for a particular system. The AKv8b2 applications quit immediately if you try to run them on hardware which doesn't match what was targeted, and that seems the most likely reason for 1 second runtimes with no output file. The quote in the thread title is probably not related, it can happen simply because the server was trying to fulfill a GPU work request and the app_info.xml truly doesn't have a usable GPU application for setiathome_enhanced work. Sorry,I meant in the APP INFO , theare a couple of lines which read It is also suspicious that all the Wu's shown having problems were in slot 5, perhaps that slot isn't getting cleared properly, But it's inpossible to tell as the O/P has his computers hidden, and no one can tell if he's producing some good results: 9757 SETI@home 5/2/2013 5:58:41 AM Output file 02mr13ae.13340.85185.9.11.226.vlar_1_0 for task 02mr13ae.13340.85185.9.11.226.vlar_1 absent Claggy |

The log snippetes are from host http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=6623971 This is happening on about 25 of 50 machines that all have the same app_info.xml. The other 25 are getting MB tasks and successfully completing work. I hid the computers because when they were unhidden we were getting "attacked" a lot but sites in China. ![]() |

I hid the computers because when they were unhidden we were getting "attacked" a lot but sites in China. As far as I know there is no information displayed to the world on un-hidden computers that could be used in any sort of "attack". We cannot see ip addresses or computer names, only the owner can. |

The log snippetes are from host http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=6623971 An AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 6136 doesn't have SSE4.1, it does have SSE4a, that app will likely not work. These nodes all received MB tasks and around 25 of 50 aborted the tasks after a second or so. The others successfully returned completed results. Will the server send work to a system for a GPU even if the system does not have a GPU defined in the app_info.xml? None of these systems have a GPU. They are all rack mounted servers. ![]() |

Thanks. Some of the blades have Intel processors and some have AMD so I will need to go cleanup the AMD processors to have a different app_info.xml. ![]() |

It maybe a coincidence but after our IT Security team made me hide them the attacks stopped. It is a small price to pay to keep them hidden and keep the IT guys off my back because he is convinced it worked. ![]() |

Just a note... The SSE4.1 app is the best choice only for Intel Core2 Duo E8xxx CPUs with very fast or overclocked system RAM. My E7600 can up to SSE4.1, but use the SSSE3 app because it's faster (bench-test). E.g. the new Core i3/5/7 CPUs should use SSE3 - IIRC. YMMV. * Best regards! :-) * Philip J. Will the server send work to a system for a GPU even if the system does not have a GPU defined in the app_info.xml? None of these systems have a GPU. They are all rack mounted servers. If you don't have a GPU app defined in your app_info, Boinc physically can't ask for GPU work, and since Boinc can't ask for GPU work, the server can't send it, changing the Use AMD and Use Nvidia GPU settings will also have no effect.
