That's not possible I'm afraid. He's one of those what the RAF in the old days used to call "below average".

Want the wages but not the work.

heheheheheh that's why I love my tomtom

Maybe ok for large trucks in ossieland but not here. We have too many instances of native & foreign drivers using sat-nav & taking 44 tonners through places one would be very lucky to take a 3.5 tonner through.

Speed for speed's sake is only good on a race track. On a highway, one needs more than a heavy foot to get where your going.

Example, 2 lorries (trucks) leave my area to travel to Hartlepool.

Lorry one left at 05:30
Lorry two left at 06:30

Which one got there first?

End of speed limits

Another daft PCC pops their head up. I said that PCC were a very big mistake right from the start, it is another American thing that might work in the States but not over here. I believe there are no speed limits on the Italian Autostrada either. Speed limits are put in place for many reasons.
    To protect the roads
    To protect the public
    To allow for vehicle ability
    To allow for driver ability

Increasing the speed limits will result in road surfaces wearing out faster. Faster speeds reduce reaction times and will cause more accidents. Cars will be driven faster than their safe cruising speed in terms of brakes, steering and suspension. People will tend to drive faster than their abilities to control the vehicle. Although in general terms it is probably true to say that a modern car today at 80mph is probably safer than one at 50mph 10 years ago.

In rush hours around the M25 you mostly cant get over 50mph anyway because of the sheer volume of traffic. On the M1 and other motorways, judging by the lane swopping and other bad driving going on, 70mph is more than fast enough as it is.

Leave well alone and stop meddling!

I did say on CERTAIN roads and the Autobahn is the best example .Everybody know the faster you go the more damage will happen if you have a crash But speed alone doesn't kill if your car is in good condition the weather is ok and your driving on a good road . A big pile up occurred on a American highway not that long ago and it was fog not speed that caused it so the copper is right there are places and roads that should have no speed limits

I agree speed limits should be abolished on some roads and places as are the German Autobahn is a good example where there shuuld be no speed limit .
Like driving from 1 city to the next on the motorway ok for you pom's not having to drive for to long try Australia where it can take 8hrs just to get from 1 town to the next and there straight roads many of them that go for 100klm without even a bend , that alone can make you have a accident boreing as hell and can make you sleepy .Better to put the foot down get to 200klm and get there before you have a crash in 4 hrs than 8

The reason why some German autobahns have no speed limit is because they were built as runways for fast jets, if the eastern powers came over the iron curtain.

Most speed limits are put in place because of the quality of the roads. If roads are built after national speed limits are agreed then the roads are built to a standard were the damage at that speed is acceptable.

Damage to roads IIRC is a square of speed, or it might be a log function, but it is certainly not a linear function. So increase the limit by 20mph and increase the damage by ~50%. So by increasing the limit it might, unless a lot more is spent on maintenance etc, actually decrease the speeds in a year or two's time because the road surface will be dangerous.

Be careful what you wish for.

Oh, yes they are, laws and rules are only usually put in place to guide and control the stupid unthinking members of society. Honest thinking people wouldn't break those rules in the first place without good reason.

I regularly break 19, because I turn left into a private car park, if I waited until the turn off area, I and about 200 other people would be using the road for about 10 minutes each time unnecessarily.
