I think she first appeared in a previous episode as the girl who didn't realize her brain was trapped in a Darlek ("Asylum of the Darleks"). She later appeared in the 2012 Christmas special as a Victorian bar maid who runs away with the Doctor but later dies.

I think the premise of this season is the Doctor wants to know why she keeps turning up. Remember Donna Noble, and the previous Doctor trying to figure out why she was special? Sort of the same thing here, I think.

The Doctor's Wife is what the episode was called....with the 'spare parts humanoids' and TARDIS parts from killed Time Lords transports, where The Doctor's TARDIS 'gains' a corporeal form. One of my favourites (for the current Doctor - David Tennant, any time!) and River Song was indeed The Doctor's Wife, which makes us both right."I may not have taken you to where you wanted to go, but I always took you to where you needed to go" - 'argument' between The Doctor and TARDIS in it's corporeal form.

Well, I do have two Sonic Screwdrivers, a Laser Screwdriver and a Sonic Pen and my TARDIS has the form of a 1991 Honda Legend 3.2! lol Actually, it could also be in the form of a 1988 2.7 Legend, or a 1980 Lancia Montecarlo. :D

Looking forward to tonight's episode. Looks intriguing. I can remember in the Tom Baker days we used to get regular tours around the TARDIS, the different rooms, the corridors, but we haven't seen that happen for a very long while!

I think we've got to wait until the final episode of this series to get somewhere near the truth that's when River Song arrives and that is always good for a bit of action and a good tease :-)
