Ever since I saw Summer Holiday with Cliff Richard as a lad, I've fancied having a go on a London bus. Yeah OK, the old ones had a Wilson pre-select box, but I've driven an old Lanchester car hat had that. But you can keep the artics, many years ago I had a go at reversing a car and caravan into a driveway. After a dozen tries I gave up and let the owner do it in one. You need reverse thinking!!! |

It should also be a criminal offence for any lorry to have TV's in the cab Yeah, they're real beauts! Got family living just outside Adelaide & have ridden in them several times. Would dearly love to drive one. |

Mrs May is expected to announce new developments in negotiations with Jordan over his deportation when she makes an emergency statement to the Commons today. Both sides of the House are committed to getting him out one way or another. It's just got to happen at some point. If it irritates the Lib Dems by temporarily withdrawing from the ECHR, tough. I don't support all their policies and never have done. |

It should also be a criminal offence for any lorry to have TV's in the cab. That's what radios are for! The old bill no longer nead to see the drivers tacho. Just plugs in a reader & everything is shown. The question is: - Will they do that? |

It should also be a criminal offence for any lorry to have TV's in the cab. That's what radios are for! In principle I would agree with that. But these long distance lorries have double size cabs with a bunk area at the back. This allows a driver to do his allotted hours, then stop for a meal and a rest or a sleep. When you are away from home for 4 or 5 days at a time, a bit of relaxation i.e. TV is not unfair. But only provided it is back behind a curtained off area, and not visible by the driver. I don't know how practicable that would be to enforce. So Mr plod randomly inspects a lorry in a layby and doesn't like what he sees. The driver gesticulates and gabbles at him in some foreign language. Is he gonna wait 2 hours by the roadside for an interpreter only to find that the lorry has broken down and wasn't going to be driven anywhere anyway? More likely it'll be 'evening all and on their way! |

Don't need a law, just need police/vosa at all ports checking their tacho's which should be a lot easier now they're digital. Too many of them that have caused accidents here have been found to have driven continuously for 30 hours & longer, that's an accident waiting to happen! It should also be a criminal offence for any lorry to have TV's in the cab. That's what radios are for! |

We should have a law that does not allow continental lorry drivers into the UK, unless they pass an English reading and speech test. Does it seem sensible to send a Polish lorry driver from Warsaw who cant speak or read english, all the way to Manchester using an outdated satnav and no knowledge of the UK road system. How many times have we seen foreign massive artics stuck under a bridge, or wedged down a country lane? Sheer common sense should have prevented those sort of things. But a lot of foreign companies employ agency drivers who are hard to track down to get compensation from, as often the company owning the lorry and the goods denies responsibility. Whilst we remain in the EU we should lobby our MEP's to put a stop to all this! (mumble mumble hrrumpf...) |

Good God, me a nurse? No chance, I like putting people in hospitals too much especially ignorant car drivers who cut up lorry drivers! Bit awkward to argue with a 44 tonner! |

@Glen you misread Sirius's post, the mention of Nursing training was a quote from someone else, not his own background. No longer made redundant but "demised" Wasn't that called downsizing a few years ago? And another typical Union reaction, more worried about an assumed snub than the details of unavoidable redundancy packages. It's Scargillism all over again where Union leaders see their primary function as maintaining job numbers to the exclusion of everything else. There is a world recession and a double dip UK one, Companies facing reduced business and profits, have no choice but to slim down until better times. I would be asking about voluntary early retirement packages, re-training, stopping external recruitment etc, and only then negotiating the best possible severance terms. Of course for the unions less members means less power, smaller branches amalgamating, fewer Branch Secretaries, survival of the union itself is seen as more important than their members best interests. That is why industrial relations are at such a low point. |

It seems that the old way of running a country seems to have worked better than the current way.... The inner city hospital my mother (retired 30 years ago) worked in, it's now closed, had a whole floor of eight wards, that were used for convalescent and nursing of older patients. That would have been at least 200 patients. |
