And, since when do I need to justify myself to you on how I choose to live my life? I mentioned once before the reasons that I got involved in local politics, oh and 3 years ago at 65 if you must know. Just because you didn't like the answer you got is your problem not mine. You can wait forever as far as I'm concerned. You have got TROLL tattooed right across your forehead, as the many PM's about you that I have received in the past year, constantly point out. But it amuses me to sidetrack you with the facts.

Of the 650 MPs, there are 503 male MPs, and 147 female MPs, a ratio of 77%-23%. There are currently 57 Lib Dem Mps, 48 male MPs, and 9 female MPs, including Baroness Susan Kramer. Baroness Sarah Ludford is a London MEP. A ratio of 84%-16%. Female Government Ministers are Lynne Featherstone, Jo Swinson, Jenny Wilcott, Sue Garden, Lindsay Northover, Jenny Randerson. Quite a notable achievement I would say.

Parliament generally, do need to do more to encourage women to stand as MP's and for higher positions in their respective parties. I don't have figures to hand but I think you will find that of the 2,700 Lib Dem Councillors on local authorities across the UK, who run 19 Councils, a fairly good proportion are female. So locally women make a strong contribution, and I want to see that extended across the board at a higher level. We have a good number of female Councillors in my constituency and a current female Mayor, and damn good they all are too.

Our armed forces SHOULD be totally honest and up front as well. Unfortunately the Government is having to issue an apology and compensation for what happened in Kenya during Mau Mau uprising in the 50's, and it now appears that the former EOKA guerrillas are close behind them, looking for the same.

It's no good sitting in your Ivory tower tut tutting that we don't have a perfect world, the rest of us already know that, we make allowances for that, and at least try to make things better. This decision means that the bill will pass its first commons hurdle with no trouble at all. But it does not mean that it will become law. Labour has only said it will abstain in July's vote, the so-called second reading when MPs debate the principle and not the detail of a bill. They are only doing so because they are confident in their view that the bill will die. Labour sources make clear that the party will oppose the Wharton bill in later stages of its parliamentary process. They just have yet to decide how.

You really do have a jaundiced view of politics and politicians, which is only fuelled by reading the Mail's slant on it all. It really is a god awful newspaper, but their website is actually very good. I try to quote from the BBC and other sources where possible to get a balanced view.

A woman who failed to reveal she was a convicted thief when she applied to become a police constable is suing Scotland Yard for discrimination. Rachida Sobhi’s bid to become a WPC was turned down when background checks revealed she had a criminal record for stealing from a previous employer. But she has launched legal action against the force, claiming that she has amnesia that caused her to forget her crime – but no other aspect of her life.

It is believed that Ms Sobhi is the first person with amnesia to have been declared disabled for the purposes of an employment tribunal. She is suing the Met for disability discrimination. Astonishingly, her claim has been backed by a renowned psychiatrist – but the Metropolitan Police is ‘vigorously’ contesting her case, arguing that her condition is irrelevant as she would not be allowed to become a constable with her criminal record in any case.

This is a piddling little news item that, as per usual, they are blowing up out of all proportion because they are obviously short of copy this weekend. Quite interesting that the question has been changed! Judging by the average person in the street, they wouldn't bother to read the question they would just say YES anyway, assuming it was an out vote. The way it was would have meant us staying in! I still maintain that the archetypal "Man on the Clapham Onmibus" is more likely to vote the way the media suggests they should, rather than deciding for themselves.

It suits the media to come out, whether that is best for the country in the long run is another matter, that is what worries me. It also worries me that if two years later we lose a lot of trade and it would be better to re-join, will there be a mechanism to do that? I don't think that the issues involved are as clear cut as some people like to think.

I would suggest that Cleggy has been eating a fair bit of humble pie recently. Also there is politico speak. "We need to see what lessons can be learned" means in fact "we are embarrassed that we got it wrong". Everyone knows that, and accepts it.
