Doesn't seem to acknowledge that in a lot of cases they were the instigator of trouble by heavily supporting communist uprisings etc.

That Afganistan is a leftover of their attempts to pacify the country, and which they failed miserably.

Or that countries that were previously part of the USSR are also very dangerous. Would you say Azerbaijan, Chechnya and other countries in that region were safe.

And don't think the US has clean hands over these places either. Certainly after WW2, and probably earlier, the policy from Washington was for the European countries to pull out from their former colonies and occupied territories asap and let the local govern themselves. Which to me, went against the US's desire to stop the spread of communism.
We stayed in Malaysia long enough to stop the spread there, but when the US encountered a similar problem, left by the French, in Vietnam they decided to not to use a system that was demonstated to work and do it their own way. We all know the reults of that effort.

I'm not making any excuses for the UK's role in this, we are probably as guilty as anyone. But after WW2 we could not afford to stay very long without help.

While I agree to a certain extent that people in social housing should not have more bedrooms than they use. And therefore should be encouraged to downsize, there was a recent article, which I now cannot find, that showed why single bedroom properties for different generation need to be different, so that moving granny out of her 3 bed semi to a one bedroom flat designed for as a dwelling for a 20 year old is not the answer.

Plus we have to remember that the empty nesters do expect their offspring to visit occasionally and to bring grandchildren along, if we put granddad and grandma into a one bedroom flat on the 22nd floor where does everybody sleep during the visit.

Plus my niece wants to know if she can get a rebate as she lives in a bedsit, she goes home every w/end and sleeps at her boy friends at least two nights a week. So her arguement is the living room is only a bedroom less than 10% of the time.

Everyone has to have a registered address where mail can be delivered, bills posted, and voting arrangements can be listed.

So officially there are no homeless people.

That is a silly comment. Those that sleep on the streets, for whatever reason, and are not "registered" as living anywhere will not appear on official censuses. Therefore are classed as "homeless". It is not right in 21C Britain that there are so many of them.

Some people need to be coloured Dumb! There's 630 volts DC flowing through those rails!

More craziness! The protection used is 2 SCD's (Short Circuiting Devices} & to put those down, one is looking at 8-10 minutes to place them, recover items & remove them. Unfortunately, after 7 minutes, the power is restored & there can be an almighty flash when that happens.

Oh well, it's to be expected in the most politically correct(stupid) city in the country!

First level protection is the call to the control room to shut off the power, which takes about a minute. The the SCDs are placed, along with a track circuit short, and you wait a further few minutes (I can't recall exactly how long), do your task. At the end of your task you inform control that you have finished, they will tell you when to remove the track circuit short and the SCDs.
But if you are in a hurry there's always the shorting bar - which, if you are lucky is good for a really big flash and bang, or if you are unlucky you miss one of the rails and you have a flash and bang, repeated until the substation decides there really is an earth fault and shuts the power down.

Not only 630V dc between the two current carrying rails, but the ability to supply several thousand amps without any problems....

I think you will find it is more than just "modern yuppies" that use mobile devices, probably most people from 12 to 50 seem to have them.

Having just traveled from South Croydon to Shadwell and back I saw a lot of phones (both Android and iPhone) being used, they all looked like regular people to me. Some were reading books or news, some listening to music, the guy next to me was sorting though his photos. Someone was even making a phone call, outrageous.

The redesign is supposed to make the order paper easier to access electronically

An application has been developed which allows MPs to download the order paper on to their iPads.

On this occasion I think that parliament is wrong. MP's should be sitting in the chamber to listen, and to take a meaningful part in the business of the day. It is quite wrong that they should be tippy tapping away on some trendy little gadget, just because that they think it gives them a modern and "with it" appeal to their constituents.

In my opinion Ipads and Iphones should be banned from the parliamentary estate forthwith. In addition if the Whips Office didn't continually send out so much garbage & crap in the first place, MP's wouldn't think they needed them!!

It is great fun starting the jammer, watching the panic as people are cut off from mobile data/conversations. Then turn the jammer off, and connection is re-established. Then turn the jammer on, and .....

Damn right too! Every 5-6 weeks I take a 3 hour train trip to the West country to see my elderly father, and I always sit in the designated "quiet carriage" that has signs up saying no mobiles, so I can do my crossword in peace. Every trip there is some idiot that talks all the time on one. If you complain to the guard they shrug their shoulders, if you complain to the person you get a mouthful of abuse. One of those would suit me just fine, and I would use it!

But even the cheap ones are £60 and they only have about a 20ft radius. I would happily pay £30 for one though. SW Trains, you have been warned!

Funny you say that Chris it is the same dam reason I wont one plus it would be funny at Macca's (Mac Donald's) or a coffee shop or pub ....but then I like shit steering heheheh
