Another IT disaster. When will these muppets wake up & realise that Government Contracts are just a free-for-all & needs tightening up!

As regards the selling off of the basic Utilities of Gas, Water, Telecoms, Electricity,
Public Transport & Infrastructure. Here Chris the government should
have retained a percentage holding in each utility. Hence bringing in revenue
for the exchequer year on year. Who fooled them into not doing this I'd love
to know....

Well we've had some really funny excuses over the years with regards to transport problems....

...for example, wrong type of snow on tracks making trains late.....

....but this one beats them all.....

Romans blamed for potholes

Bosses at Kent County Council's Highways Services department - which filled in nearly 15,000 potholes around the county last year - say that potholes keep popping up because it has been using French asphalt. But, rather than putting the blame squarely on the French, roads chiefs also blamed the Roman Empire for not laying the roads on strong enough foundations 2,000 years ago.

Kent has always been an oddball place, previously known as Cantia and then Cent. Probably comes from being the closest part of the UK to France, and inhaling too many garlic fumes. Apart from Chateauneuf du pape, the only good thing that has ever come out of France is the ferry back to England.

LOL. Im sure the Romans had a great road foundation for the Ox carts and horse drawn wagons and the thousands of foot soldiers who had to walk the roads.

Britain can rise again

A long way to go then, as a ship that is more than 50% flooded will never rise!

...and if Osborne knows what he should know about that outfit called the IMF he
will tell her and the rest of that bunch to, "Take a running jump". It's those
cronies financially backing the IMF who are feeling the pinch in their pockets
due to all these austerity measures being applied in Europe at the moment. They
don't care a dam if a country inflates it's economy to the extent of going broke
just as long as what is being spent finds it's way into their pockets at some stage.
The IMF has now lost what little credibility it did have over this latest scam statement.
Telling the UK it was doing the correct thing by applying austerity measures, but now
to change it's stance even though the UK hasn't actually started cutting back save for a bit on the social budget.

In plain English, the IMF thinks it’s time for Osborne to ease off on the cuts and go for growth – clearly believing that the two cannot go together.

Osborne will return to Britain this week politically humiliated by the IMF and the credit rating agencies, but unbowed in his efforts to put our economy back on track after the intemperate spending of New Labour.

Not quite. What they are saying is return to the EEC not the EU. Even a blind man can see that!

We actually only upset the French politicians but not their general populous.
So when us Brits have a downer on the French we only mean their politicians.

Glenn, I have been very very careful, as I do not want to be modded.

No abusive comments involving race, religion, nationality, gender, class or sexuality.

To put it in a nutshell, I don't like France as a country, nor it's history, or the way that it is being run today. It is to me a place you travel through to get to somewhere else. It probably comes mainly from my age group I will openly admit. I happen to know some French people socially and they are very nice as well, I just haven't got a lot of time for the country that they live in. So I haven't insulted the French people, just cast a few aspersions upon the way that their country appears to govern and lead them.

How can you have a country led by people that think they have to have at least 3 mistresses before they can get any respect? How can you have a country led by people where their fishermen regularly hold the government to ransom? How can you have a country that meddles in International affairs, and in the process makes things twice as worse?

I have said before about certain places, nice country, shame about the people. I say now France? Nice people shame about the country. I see no reason to change my views in the forseeable future.

+1.

Oh boy, this is surely going to set the "cat amongst the pigeons".....

British workers "worst idlers"

Personally, even though most of us probably know some work shy couch potatoes, what these MP's should be doing is spending time on is providing better infrastructure & more jobs.

The main problem is the EU's Working Time Directive. Before that came into force I was normally working 60/70 hours a week on average (2 man crew so no health & safety issues regarding driving), now we're down to a maximum of 48 (some weeks can do more but total must not exceed 48 p/w over each 17 week period).

To maintain the same wage, employers would have to pay me just over £20 per hour & there is no way I can see that happening.

Fortunately by holding a FLT license & opting out of the WTD (Wonder how long that will be available before that is stopped?) I can add to current hours.

Idle? Think those muppets ought to come out with me for a week..... I'll lay odds they'll be glad to getting back to being a "lazy" MP!

In the UK for instance, it's cheaper for an employer to employ one man doing
a 38 hour week than it would be to employ two men each working 19 hours a week.
