cmd as administrator, ipconfig /flushdns.

Or reboot the computer. Either one should do it.

After a machine recycle & 24 hrs later, I attempted to access to the Lunatics site and was stopped at the Kwsn.net page that had the expiration notice. I checked my hosts file, which had contained both the Berkeley server & the newly added Lunatics, and the file had been wiped CLEAN. EVERYTHING IN THE FILE HAD BEEN DELETED!! Luckily I had a copy of the original file and was able to recreate the file.

From England,
I too am getting the domain has expired message when I access directly using the nslookup IP address of http://208.73.210.155/

However when I use the url lunatics.kwsn.net I get redirected to an online gambling site.

My hosts file is intact and contains no lunatics entries, so it appears that they haven't paid the ISP or their nameserver needs updating.

[edit] when I go to 63.247.72.178 I get this

Ni!

In case people haven't noticed (I'm sure they have, but I don't think anybody has mentioned it in this discussion yet), the domain name expiry also affects http://stats.kwsn.net/, the statistics site for "The Knights Who Say 'Ni!'".

That's one of the six combined stats sites effectively 'endorsed' by BOINC centrally: their link appears on the account page for every user, on every BOINC project using anything close to the BOINC standard website code.

Problems accessing the Lunatics site are a tiny side-effect of the larger problem (Lunatics has - very kindly - been lent a very small corner of that much larger hosting operation). I'm sure the Knights are making every effort to overcome the hurdles in the way of their domain renewal, as Claggy explained some time ago in this thread.

A possibility: Some kinds of malware use the hosts file as an attack vector, so some anti-malware software might try to counteract that by clearing the file.

I also have a dead link here as well in the NE part of US. It's possible that my router caches the DNS but I doubt it. I have ATT U-Verse as my ISP.

This would be a disaster for the Knights as a whole, not just the Lunatics.

So has anyone heard from the KWSN admins as to what is happening and when they expect to be back up ?

Never had a problem with the hosts file until I put the Lunatics data in it.

That's a bummer.

I just returned to crunching and now their site is down :(

Luckily I could locate a copy of the GPU client elsewhere on the web.

Cheers
Hans

Well it finally came up for me when I checked an hour ago. Earlier in the day I was still getting the domain not found message.

The proper IP is now known by my ISP's nameserver, but not yet by the Google public nameserver at 8.8.8.8 so it may well be a day or so before it's right for everyone.

But the installers are not there?

As far as I recall, the installers were taken down quite some time ago do to legal concerns involving, I believe, GPL and the Intel compilers used to create some of the optimized applications.
It is anticipated that new installers may be once again made available when the new v7 multibeam apps move from beta to main on Seti.

Anybody more directly involved at Lunatics, please correct me if this is not accurate.

Correct on the reason why they're not there.

Replacement applications are being worked on, but the precise timing and sequence of events is still very much up in the air. We have to juggle writing/testing a complete set of apps: the transfer of v7 from Beta to Main: assorted googlies being bowled at us in the form of driver updates and changes: and finally packaging it all together in an installer. News as we get it.

Meanwhile, on the subject of the Lunatics website. The site itself is fine, and has remained up and running continuously: there are no plans to change or move it. The only problem was with the internet signposting system which guides you to it. That seems to be resolving itself slowly - I can reach lunatics.kwsn.net and www.kwsn.net normally now, though I'm still having difficulty reaching stats.kwsn.net
