True but don't forget, he's Canadian. Yanks are not doing too well here, Bob Diamond comes to mind.

No wonder our hospitals are up the creek.....

Money for old rope

The pair are among dozens of senior staff who received ‘golden goodbyes’ of more than £100,000; many of which later found new jobs in the ‘revolving door’ of the NHS.

Nope, not a revolving door but a free ATM dispenser to those with the code.

What the hell are doctors good for if they can't detect a serious issue? A MRI scan at the right time could have saved her life.....

Sad waste of a young life

Doctors and health care professionals have a duty of care to a patient under the Hippocratic Oath.

Simple fact.

Really? Care to explain this then?

"The move was one of the central recommendations of a review of patient safety commissioned by ministers after findings that hundreds suffered unacceptable treatment at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust."

About time!

Doctors and health care professionals have a duty of care to a patient under the Hippocratic Oath.

Simple fact.

Is that a fact?

So this is another blip on the radar then

You all should try the hospitals in my region of the Aussie mountain bush (I'd hate to be living in even more remote places here).

1st hospital, small and 27kms west with a basic emergency ward (other than that it's just a nursing home).

2nd hospital, a good size, though basically empty, and 40kms south with a basic emergency ward (other than that it's just a nursing home).

3rd hospital, not much bigger than the 1st, and 50kms north with a basic emergency ward (other than that it's just a nursing home).

If you break a bone up here then it's a minimum of 135km trip south (large but mainly empty).

Slightly worse than that then that southward trip extends to 245kms (large but still much like the previous 1).*

If you have any real problem (like my missus did) then it's 550kms by road to John Hunter Hospital (about 2-3hrs by airlift or 6hrs of very fast driving) but it is extra large and bulging with everything.*

*All of which are totally insane when there are better hospitals just down on the coast and just north of the state border. :-(

Cheers.

Think it's time we had the US malpractice laws here....

Oh you mean the ones that drive up costs and decrease quality as doctors work to cover their asses rather than treating you. Besides, doesn't the UK already have malpractices laws?

That aside, doctors are humans, humans make mistakes, it happens. Suing the hell out of doctors will not prevent that.

Yes, its tragic. But how will suing the hell out of every doctor that ever makes a mistake help?

For these kind of salaries, they're getting paid to do a job and as the medical profession is supposed to be "Of a professional high standard" there has to be penalties for the lack of those standards!

Nice salary Doc

Oh how terrible, that in exchange for seven years medical training, two years as a house officier, then a further three years training in general practice, to do a difficult job with skill and dedication whilst under a barrage of criticism from the sort of narrow-minded clots who read the daily mail; GPs can earn less than Jordan gets for standing around with her scary plastic norks almost hanging out.
Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge.

Lack of standards? Are you implying that doctors in the UK just mess around a bit until its time for them to collect their paycheck and go home? That these doctors are not even trying to help their patients?

Also, I'm pretty sure that if you can actually prove that the doctor in question was just messing around on purpose you can take legal action against the doctor. It just doesn't mean that doing so will make you instantly rich. Nor should it, because in the end, its everyone else that ends up paying for it.

I would judge that a flippant remark like that is quite uncalled for in the circumstances.

Flippant? Really? No spurious response a la Waily Fail then? It did happen did it not?

Gawd forbid a professional surgeon being sloppy, Why I never, doesn't seem possible does it?
