I have to say that is a reasonable viewpoint from Guy. I held a short poll recently on whether the Politics forum should go whilst keeping all the others, and the large majority of the responses from people wanted it kept. There is no case that I can see for removing all of them across the board. (pun intended).

That is also a reasonable response from Dull. (Ok, I unhid him after I read Guys's post) His basic view is that he thinks Obama and his regime are pretty bad for the USA, also he says that we could be courting disaster by finding ET who may not be a benevolent ET. Many find it incomprehensible that he can't just say so in simple english.

Yes, I can Harm, Annoy, Displeasure, and Other Bad Thangs with my BabbleSpeak and 'certain' 'precautions need to be in place.

He openly admits most people find him irritating yet he continues to babblespeak, he obviously finds it amusing and enjoys the notoriety. What is a little sneaky is certain comments about individuals "hidden" in his profile. He is not hated, all families have a dotty uncle in real life, just do as I do and he suggests, and filter him. Takes the edge of it.

No matter how much you try to limit the subject at hand, including trying to limit it to nothing but the subject of SETI itself, and Q&A for nubes, and the science behind SETI, and a forum dedicated to those who put together power crunching equipment, and finally a forum dedicated to nothing but friendly banter of those participating, POLITICS ALWAYS ENTERS THE FORUMS. So we have a forum dedicated to the wasteland of politics. So those who are mentally incapable of thinking of the future have a place to continue preaching the belief that centralizing all power and control into the hands of a few in Washington DC, and a place to repeat their mantra ad nauseum and a place for sensible people to try to talk some sense into those mind-numbed robots of the left.

So if you don't want to be annoyed, the only answer is to remove all forums. Would you be happy with that?

I don't think that removing all of the forums is a good idea. There is no reason that the Seti forums can't be a discussion for many topics.

Regardless of an individual's political position, and regardless of someone else disagreeing with that position, there is still room for discussion on a wide angle of political topics. It is also possible that these discussions can remain civil.

What people on these forums are being asked to ignore is not any of my aforementioned situations. People are the forums are being asked to ignore incoherent babblings. They are cryptic in nature, and have to be gone over with a fine tooth comb to determine if there is any lightly hidden racism or other lunacy that has no legitimate place on these forums.

The rants are barely in a speak-able language, English or otherwise, and are 95% of the time no better than sheer spam. As I've mentioned above, if someone were to drag their arm across their keyboard, the same relevancy would come out of it.

Politics has little to do with the posts I don't enjoy seeing here.

Every public bulletin board has it's eccentrics and crazies. Where else can they go and get an audience other than here and other similar places? In a way Seti is doing a public service by keeping them off the streets, and also saving them the costs of a residential nursing home, where most of them should actually be.

It's been the same the last ten years, it will be the same during the next ten I have no doubt. Best advice is to put the worst on an ignore filter, and take the Admins advice to not be tempted to look. Have some self control even if they haven't. Advice I admit I have not always followed up until now.

The prayers of parishioners at two cold and damp churches have been answered after the Diocese of Exeter agreed to trial re-heatable cushions on the pews. One hundred cushions are being trialled in Broadclyst and South Tawton's Anglican churches for three months. Designed for use by sports fans, the cushions are part of a campaign to cut carbon emissions and look at new heating systems for church buildings.
