Great poem, about where you work, Julie! ;o)

(The wink is for you, too, Anniet.)

Perhaps, we poets could get together, at O'Rourke's, in Pawtuxet,
for a beer-and-poetry session, one fine day.

Sounds like a great plan, Jim:)

It DOES doesn't it Julie :) - and think of the limericks Pawtuxet could spawn... :)

Ahem... So... how do pronounce it exactly... paw-tux-it? Pawtu-zit? Pah-touche? :)

Paw-tux-it. Don't get confused with a town, north of
Providence, Pawtucket (more puns, there, perhaps).

Eyelash

When your eyelashes tickle your skin,
You realize how sensitive you really are.

Those little things have such an impact.
Like one song can change your mood.
Or how a good movie can make you see all facts.

How just lying on the ground can clear your mind.
How one good moment in the sunlight can make you think kind.
How a dance can speak a 1000 words.
How a smile can say none.

How you can cry on the shoulder of a friend.
How you can feel so convertible in the dark.

And I know it has not worked out.
It always breaks me down again.
And still I dream about a good end.
Over a 10000 story’s I have played in my mind.
So just for once, it would not end in a fight.

So every eyelash I catch.
I make a wish.
Because even though all the pain,
I still can dream for a good ending, I just need to wait.

Memories

A sudden rise
A darkening swell
A crest is made
A thunder felt

A seagull's call
A distant sail
A gravel's rush
A forlorn wail

A castle's end
A retrieved pail
A cry of joy
A scallop toy

A day awash
in memories.

Life is a Teeter-Totter

I didn't ask that it should be this way.
Then, again, perhaps I did.

Poignancy has its joys and sorrows.
If, only, the sorrows were confined
to myself.

If, only, great rewards did not always seem
to be balanced by
tragedies.

Yet, onward we go --
striving for
a contribution.

A beautiful contribution --
and conclusion --
to a poignant life.

Jim - such a beautiful and inspirational poem - I do hope you won't mind if I come in with a soft duet - in blue?

Life is a Teeter-Totter

I didn't ask that it should be this way. No nor did I, or them, or we

Then, again, perhaps I did. But not I think, intentionally

Poignancy has its joys and sorrows. Oh yes indeed it does have them
If, only, the sorrows were confined
to myself. But that would be so sad...and not just for us but for all who love you Jim

If, only, great rewards did not always seem
to be balanced by
tragedies.
Yes... we wilt... I know...

Yet, onward we go -- because from each we grow...
striving for
a contribution. no matter how great or small it seems

A beautiful contribution --
and conclusion -- given with our hearts
to a poignant life. which left a better world behind

The Hospital:

It has come again...
the ticking clock
that-I do-not al-ways see

With the silent phone
and the empty line
that just will not answer me

The voice inside
(she says it's nine
and six hours late is he...)

"Shut UP!" I flay
"There was SUN today,
he WILL be in the park!"

But there was no him
on the empty bench
and the sunbeams turned so dark

I will ring again ... but in a little while
So I can pretend there's hope you see :)
That very soon he'll be asking me for a hot sweet cup of tea.

I will cling to that!
Then I'll cling to this!
That the phone WILL speak to me...

And it won't be bad
and it won't be sad
and he'll be in just temporarily...

...for those who wait... and wait... on dialysis days...

Because I could not stop for Death –
He kindly stopped for me –
The Carriage held but just Ourselves –
And Immortality.

We slowly drove – He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility –

We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess – in the Ring –
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain –
We passed the Setting Sun –

Or rather – He passed us –
The Dews drew quivering and chill –
For only Gossamer, my Gown –
My Tippet – only Tulle –

We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground –
The Roof was scarcely visible –
The Cornice – in the Ground –

Since then – 'tis Centuries – and yet
Feels shorter than the Day
I first surmised the Horses' Heads
Were toward Eternity –

Good poem, Byron. I recall reading it, years, ago. Emily Dickinson
is one of my favorites.

The Road Not Taken :: Robert Frost

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth; 5

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same, 10

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back. 15

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference. 20
The mind is a weird and mysterious place
