IN WAITING...

Since time I have Wondered,
And listening for an alien sound...

But no cosmic signals,
Nothing has been found...

Getting tired day by day,
Frustration is abound...

But my ears would never ever give up,
Not even when I am six feet under the ground...

WHEN...?

When will it finally happen,
When will we eventually meet...

When will the waiting end,
When will I hear your beat...

When does this torture end,
When shall you turn up the heat...

(if any aliens read the post...guys,gals or whatever you may be...Please! enough of playing cat n mouse,,,Let's Meet Up!)

Contact

Before we meet
a space-faring race,
we will have practiced
on each other --

if we are fortunate enough
to have had sufficient time --

learning to not only tolerate
different ideas,
here,on Earth,
but,
to appreciate them.

Before we meet,
we will, hopefully,
have discovered,

that the true aliens,
if any,
are amongst ourselves,
only.

We should, then,
greatly benefit from
contact

with fellow, intelligent,
people.

Dictionary Dichotomy

The dictionary is quite heavy --
it won't get off the ground.

It's words, however, quite unique --
they effortlessly, fly around.

Perhaps, he had some business to discuss with Godot.

"In Sweeter Dreams"

as the sun begins to rise
above the trees, to break the night
i can feel it's distant warmth
is touching me
i see a car go 'round the bend
i see a highway with no end
i see a place i used to be
when i was young

as the days go by so fast
turn the present, to the past
the one thing that will last
the memories
i am older, just the same
and yes i can go home again
when i gaze upon this place
in sweeter dreams

and the dream will have no end
and yes i can go home again
i can see all my old friends
the way they were
i will visit now and then
all the places i have been
as i remember when
in sweeter dreams

Dan -- Perhaps, this is a big order, esp. so soon after John Clark's
passing. But, perhaps even a brief poem?

With most of my poems, revisions -- except, for typo's, etc. -- are not
made. That approach, as far as I'm concerned, is for the professionals.

However, that said, once in awhile, one comes along begging an evolutionary
revision treatment. And, so -- hopefully, you'll bear (possibly, with
interest) a final draft of, "A Different Journey" (Here: "A Different
Journey II"). This was done, at the urging of a poet (published) friend,
of mine.

*

A Different Journey II

I shivered, inside my coat.
It was deep dusk,
and the only sounds
were from my footsteps
on a desolate
unpaved country road.

How did I get on this road?

Whisps of vapor
muffled what seemed to be
scratching sounds
from within the
bordering, old forest.

A picture came to mind,
that its leafless, gnarled limbs
were guarding a dark secret,
a dark secret from long, ago --

a secret, struggling
to release itelf
into the biting, cold air?

Was I, somehow, involved?

Or, was I being too critical of myself?

Dispiritedly continuing onward,
I became aware that
there were no familiar
distant noises of a community's
night-time activities.

Another dire thought ran through my head --

Did I die, and come back
to forever anxiously
tread this dirt road?

Then, again, would there be a way
to return to a familiar landscape --
as easy as waking from a strange dream?

Facing the present reality,
would just a night-time quest, suffice --
perhaps, just to the end of the road?

Or, would a release from this bizarre,
yet, somewhat familiar scene --

with many fond memories of pleasant
hiking experiences --

require coming to terms
with my life,
before reaching a, perhaps,
undesired destination?

Would any other friends and family
be somewhere on this road,
or,
other roads?

Would my fate be in their hands?
Of more concern,
would theirs be in mine?

Perhaps, I should wait;
then, again,
perhaps, I should
pick up the pace?

Would answers, or indications, appear
only when strangers had joined
in the trek?

And, who might they be --
historic figures,
perhaps ordinary wayfarers
caught up, by mistake --
or individuals, such as myself,
placed on this road,
for a definite reason --
with the former as recruited
actors to assist in
this play, of sorts?

It still might prove enlightening,
if not enjoyable,
to meet in a warm tavern
or coffee-house,
along the way,
and, at least share
life experiences.

Would a time-limit be involved --
with a cheery, warm,
sunrise
signiling, ironically,
my failure to successfully
surmount a trial?

What penalty, possibly
absolutely heart-breaking,
be awaiting
a failure?

Forcing my train of thought
back into a more positive vein,
I resolved to be alert
to any indications of
expectations for me.

Alas, another shiver
quickly ran through me.

There were no signs of
habitation, thus far.
No warmly-lit windows,
along the way,
to allay my worries.

I had memories,
but parts seemed to be missing.

A moon-lit meadow
appeared, ahead.

Perhaps, a sympathetic answer
could be found
inside an opened door.

Where was my family?
Where were my friends?

No homes were in sight,
and I was getting weary. . .

And, it as still
night.

I never thought dying
could ever be like this.
