Are We Different?


During the Great Depression,
many lost their jobs --
and, their
families.

And, yet,
they voted, a fourth time,
for a President whose healing words were,
"The only thing we have to fear, is fear, itself."

Today,
many citizens of
The United States of America
have responded for the first time --

and elected to the Presidency
a man, whose call to a fragmented country
has been for sacrifice
to be made . . .

but, only by those
who would be told to leave
the United States of America. . .
in order to make it "Great, Again."

Are many so different from their
parents and grandparents,
that they would jeopardize democracy
in order to be "Great Again"?

Guess Who I Am


I take desperate people,
who painfully trek
from frightful conditions --

and callously
rebuff their entreaties
for merciful haven.

I care not for those
who have not achieved
their rightful place in the world --

no matter how much they have achieved in their land of birth,
and have promised to continue to achieve,
both for themselves, and their hoped-for new homeland.

I don't care if my actions
reflect badly
on those I represent.

I only care for my own vision.

Times have changed,
and, the Statue of Liberty
should be removed.

Guess who I am.
